A woman was asked by Ibom Air cabin crew to turn off her phone as the plane was heading towards the runway. But she is said to have ignored the request, refusing and insisting she would switch her phone to flight mode instead. When things became more heated, the pilot turned the aircraft back to the terminal at Lagos's Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Advertisement The woman was forced to get out of her seat and brought to the front of the plane, where she hit a flight attendant standing in the doorway. In the shocking video, the staff member can be heard saying: "She is hitting me. She is f***ing hitting me." The attendant raises her hands to protect her face from further blows. The incensed passenger shouts: "What did you do?" Advertisement The passenger is then seen putting on her jacket and being removed from the plane with her luggage. Once outside, security staff were forced to restrain her. Ibom Air has imposed a lifetime ban on the passenger, according to local outlet Business Day. A statement by the airline read: 'Ibom Air reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of unruly or violent conduct that threatens the safety of passengers, crew, or equipment. "Such behaviour will be met with the strongest possible response, including legal action and permanent restriction from our services." Advertisement It added that it "commended the bravery and professionalism" of its crew along with the support from airport staff and the Nigerian Police. Speaking about the incident, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), reminded passengers that they should respect instructions by cabin crew. He said: "When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before take-off or landing, simply comply. "I can't understand why simple routine issues would lead to incidents like this. It comes after a brawl recently erupted onboard a flight when some passengers reportedly refused to keep quiet after the lights were dimmed. Nigeria seizes 1,600 birds at Lagos airport bound for Kuwait
Customs officials at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria said they had seized more than 1,600 parrots and canaries that were being transported to Kuwait without a permit, in one of the biggest such seizures in years. The cargo of live birds, which included ring-necked parakeets and yellow-fronted canaries, was intercepted by customs officials at the airport on July 31, the agency said in a statement late on Monday. Nigeria, which has become a transit hub for trafficking in wildlife and wildlife products, is a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Parrots, songbirds and birds of prey are among the most trafficked birds for the exotic pet trade, private collections and for feathers or trophies, according to the United Nations 2024 World Wildlife Report.

REUTERS/Temilade Adelaja/File Photo LAGOS, NIGERIA - Nigerians seeking to travel to the United States on non-immigrant visas will now receive single-entry three-month permits, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria said, rolling back the up to five-year, multiple-entry visas they enjoyed previously. "We wish to underscore that as is standard globally, visa reciprocity is a continuous process and is subject to review and change at any time, such as increasing or decreasing permitted entries and duration of validity," the statement on the embassy's website said. A Nigerian foreign ministry official told local media that Nigeria has no such visa policy towards U.S. citizens. In June, the Trump administration added Nigeria to a list of 36 countries that could face travel restrictions if they failed to address various security and diplomatic concerns within two months. Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar did not respond to requests for comment. Nigeria received nearly one-fifth of the non-immigrant visas issued by the U.S. government in 2024 in Africa, according to the State Department, and is second only to South Africa on the list of such visas issued for that fiscal year.
