No business: Nagaland trade body protests govt's ‘step-motherly treatment'
Dimapur:
Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(CNCCI) has announced an indefinite voluntary business shutdown across the state starting April 24, to protest against the state govt's alleged lack of equitable justice in nominating representatives of the
District Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(DCCI) to the district urban local bodies (ULBs).
In a letter dated April 21, CNCCI chairperson Khekugha Muru informed DCCI presidents about the decision, which followed appeals urging collective action. The DCCI presidents expressed disappointment over what they termed the state govt's "step-motherly treatment".
According to Muru, the CNCCI had explored all possible avenues, including formal appeals to the chief minister and press releases warning of a democratic protest if demands were not addressed by April 20, 2025. "Unfortunately, the state government has not responded," he said. Responding to demands from nine aggrieved DCCIs, the CNCCI announced the shutdown, which will also involve banking institutions.
