Customs Authority approves enhanced measures for transit of goods through Libya
The Customs Authority announced last Sunday (3 July) that it has approved enhanced measures for the transit of goods through Libya.
The measures were approved during a meeting between Major General Musa Ali Mohammed, Acting Director General of the Customs Authority, with key officials to address challenges facing goods transiting through Libyan territory.
The meeting resulted in a set of measures aimed at improving transit operations, protecting Libya from spoiled or non-compliant goods, and avoiding their destruction within Libyan borders. Key decisions at the meeting included:
– Mandatory prior approval for all transit operations via the International Cooperation Office.
– Financial guarantees from exporters, refunded upon successful transit.
– Approval required for returning goods from Tunisia or Egypt to the country of origin.
– Commitment to the Libyan Tunisian Technical Customs Committee's recommendations, with any destruction of non-compliant goods to occur in the destination country.
