Omani guide turns host in iconic mountain village- Misfat al Abriyeen

Al Hamra – Inspired by the natural beauty and cultural richness of Misfat al Abriyeen, Khasib bin Muhail al Hattali, a young Omani from Al Hamra in Dakhliyah Governorate, has transformed his passion for tourism into a promising entrepreneurial venture. Tourists from across the globe visit the historic village year-round, and it was this steady flow of visitors that encouraged Al Hattali to pursue a dream—launching a heritage lodge that blends harmoniously with the local environment. His journey in tourism began in 2010 as a tour guide at the Muscat Diving and Adventure Centre. Over time, he expanded his guiding activities to cover key tourist sites across the Sultanate, focusing particularly on Misfat al Abriyeen. His deep connection to the village inspired the idea of developing a tourism project that would reflect its charm. Determined to find a location that captures the essence of Misfat al Abriyeen, Al Hattali selected a site nestled among palm groves and overlooking traditional mud-brick houses that give the village its distinct architectural identity. The result is the 'Rogan Guest House,' which opened earlier this year. Despite facing challenges, Al Hattali remained committed to realising his vision. He told the Oman News Agency that the Rogan Guest House is not just a place to stay—it is an experience that aligns with the village's atmosphere, heritage, and serene landscape. He is currently working to develop the lodge further to accommodate the growing interest from both domestic and international tourists. Misfat al Abriyeen is celebrated for its blend of heritage and adventure tourism, featuring historic sites, traditional lodgings, and modern cafés that cater to visitors. In recognition of its appeal, the village was included in the World Tourism Organization's list of the most beautiful tourist villages in 2021 during its General Assembly in Madrid. Al Hattali's initiative highlights the growing role of Omani youth in supporting the national tourism sector and turning local assets into sustainable opportunities aligned with Oman Vision 2040.
