Suspect in dangerous person alert charged with attempted murder after officer shot
A dangerous person alert was issued for an armed man in the Muskowekwan First Nation area on July 24, 2025. (Jacob Carr/CTV News) The man connected to a dangerous person alert is now facing an attempted murder charge after an RCMP officer was injured on Muskowekwan First Nation. Officers first responded to a report of an armed individual at a residence on the First Nation around 2 a.m. on Thursday. A firearm was discharged, and an officer was struck, according to RCMP. He was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. The armed man, who was identified as 28-year-old Elijah Albert, fled on foot. A dangerous person alert for the area was issued around 6:36 a.m. after RCMP monitored the situation. The alert ended around 9:11 a.m. when RCMP say Albert was located at a rural location near Lestock, Sask. and taken into custody. RCMP say fire and ammunition were recovered as part of the ongoing investigation. Albert is facing one count of attempted murder with a firearm, one count of discharging a firearm with intent, one count of uttering threats, and one count of pointing a firearm. He is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial court on July 30. Muskowekwan First Nation and Lestock, Sask. are approximately 140 kilometres north of Regina.

Saskatchewan RCMP have issued a dangerous person alert for Muskowekwan First Nation and its surrounding area. Elijah Albert, 28, is considered armed and dangerous. (Source: Saskatchewan RCMP) Elijah Albert, the subject of a dangerous person alert early Thursday morning, has been arrested, according to Saskatchewan RCMP. At 9:11 a.m., a second emergency alert was issued, stating that Albert was taken into custody in a rural location near Lestock, Sask. The Saskatchewan RCMP is warning the public of a dangerous person in the Muskowekwan First Nation area, located approximately 140 kilometres north of Regina. Police say Elijah Albert, 28, is armed with a rifle and was last seen wearing a blue sweater, blue jeans and a dark backpack. He was last seen heading into the bush surrounding Muskowekwan First Nation. RCMP say he is possibly travelling on foot or on a quad. Residents in the area are being told to seek immediate shelter. 'Do not leave a secure location. Lock windows and doors. Do not pick up hitchhikers,' RCMP said in its news release. A civil emergency alert was issued for the area at around 7 a.m. Thursday.

Punnichy RCMP investigating after multiple guns stolen on Muskowekwan First Nation

(David Prisciak/CTV News) RCMP in Punnichy are investigating after a break-in resulted in several guns being stolen from a home on Muskowekwan First Nation. On Friday, July 4, RCMP officers responded to a home on the First Nation following a reported break and enter. Officers discovered that a suspect or suspects broke into the home and caused 'extensive damage.' The suspect or suspects also stole a dark grey gun cabinet containing four guns. The firearms are described as a .308 bolt-action rifle, a .22 pump rifle, a 12-gauge Weatherby shotgun and a 16-gauge double-barrel shotgun. A hunting knife and ammunition were also stolen from the home. Punnichy RCMP believe the break-in occurred sometime on July 4 between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The investigation into the incident continues. Anyone with information about the incident or who witnessed any suspicious activity on the First Nation on the afternoon of July 4 is asked to contact Punnichy RCMP or submit an anonymous tip to Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers. Muskowekwan First Nation is located approximately 140 kilometres north of Regina.

Two injured, including RCMP officer, after collision near Punnichy, Sask.
Saskatchewan RCMP are continuing to investigate after a police vehicle collided with a truck on Highway 15 near Punnichy on Wednesday. On June 4 around 11:10 a.m., a two-vehicle collision was reported near the rodeo grounds on Muskowekwan First Nation. Officers responded along with local paramedics and STARS Air Ambulance. Police determined that a marked RCMP vehicle and a truck had collided. The officer was taken to hospital by STARS for injuries described as 'serious but non-life-threatening.' There were no passengers in the RCMP vehicle at the time of the crash. The driver and sole occupant of the truck was taken to hospital non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said. Highway 15 was temporarily closed due to the incident. Punnichy RCMP continue to investigate with the help of a collision reconstructionist. Muskowekwan First Nation is located approximately 150 kilometres north of Regina.

2 men wanted in connection with double shooting deaths in Winnipeg
Police have identified two men they allege are responsible for a double homicide in Winnipeg in February, and have issued Canada-wide warrants for their arrests. Jermain Gage Houle, 24, is wanted for second-degree murder, and his brother, Aaron Junior Houle, 27, is wanted for being an accessory after the fact. Sheldon Derrach Catcheway, 33, and Shanastene Irene McLeod, 35, were found dead in a home on Alfred Avenue, off Aikins Street, on Feb. 15. Both had been shot. Catcheway was a member of Swan Lake First Nation and living in Winnipeg. McLeod was a member of Muskowekwan First Nation, in Saskatchewan, and living in Winnipeg. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Jermain or Aaron is asked to contact the homicide unit at 204-986-6508. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 or online. Do not approach the two, as they are considered possibly armed and dangerous, police said.
