Thousands protest against Waqf Act in S'mogga

Shivamogga: Thousands from Muslim communities gathered in Shivamogga to protest the Waqf Amendment Act and later submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner. The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board organised a peaceful demonstration under the banner 'Save Waqf - Save the Constitution'. Protesters, wearing black bands and carrying the national flag, began their march from the Muslim Hostel (district waqf office) towards the DC office, where they assembled for a large-scale demonstration. The participants voiced their concerns regarding constitutional rights and waqf properties preservation. The campaign emphasised the protection of these fundamental aspects. Muslim leader Shahul Hameed addressed the gathering, highlighting increasing challenges faced by the community. He particularly objected to the inclusion of non-Muslims in the act, questioning their involvement in Muslim Waqf Board matters. He urged the Centre to acknowledge these peaceful protests. Hameed addressed security concerns, referencing incidents in Pahalgam, Uri, and Pathankot. He emphasised that terrorists lack religious affiliation, and no faith permits the killing of another's followers. He stated that anyone committing murder under the guise of terrorism cannot be considered Muslim. He suggested that those acquiring waqf property should likewise contribute their properties to the Waqf Board. Over five thousand people took part in the protest.
