JPJ, APAD told to step up monitoring of repeat offenders, says Loke
KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) have been instructed to step up monitoring of repeat traffic offenders involving transport companies and commercial vehicle drivers. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said this is following claims of delays by authorities in taking action against repeat traffic offenders. "I have instructed JPJ and APAD to be more aggressive in their monitoring, particularly of repeat offenders, including companies or even drivers with multiple violations. "Proactive action needs to be taken, including audits. Audits will be carried out at transport companies regardless of whether an incident has occurred,' he told a media conference after the My50 Pass Digitalisation Briefing and Launch at KL Sentral LRT Station here on Thursday (June 26) On claims about lorry drivers concealing traffic summonses, resulting in a backlog of unpaid fines, Loke said that is an internal matter of the companies involved. "Firstly, a summons is still a summons. I feel that they need to work out a method together with their drivers because the permit is issued to the company, not the driver. So, when a vehicle is summoned, the vehicle owner or permit holder bears the responsibility. "So, to me, it is their internal affair, including how they deal with their drivers,' he said. On Wednesday (June 25), the Transport Ministry revealed a list of 11 goods vehicle operators and 17 express bus companies with a high number of outstanding traffic summonses. Meanwhile, asked if the My50 unlimited travel pass, which is currently used on rail and bus services operated by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, would be expanded to all public transport operators, Loke said they are in talks with Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL), the private operator of the KLIA Ekspres service, to offer monthly passes at a lower rate to users. "So, this is what we are working on, it's just that I can't say the RM50 pass is for all types of transport modes. That will be very difficult to implement,' he said. Regarding the lack of parking space and damage to vehicles at public transport station areas, Loke said the government encourages the public to use the Rapid On-Demand (ROD) service to get to LRT stations. "The government cannot build park-and-ride facilities at every location. That's why we introduced ROD, the whole idea is that we want to encourage more people to use public transport,' he said. - Bernama

JPJ, APAD urged to monitor repeat traffic offenders closely
KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) have been instructed to enhance monitoring of repeat traffic offenders, particularly involving transport companies and commercial drivers. Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized the need for proactive measures following complaints of delayed enforcement. Loke stated, 'I have instructed JPJ and APAD to be more aggressive in their monitoring, particularly of repeat offenders, including companies or even drivers with multiple violations. Proactive action needs to be taken, including audits.' He added that audits would be conducted at transport companies regardless of whether an incident had occurred. The minister addressed concerns over lorry drivers hiding traffic summonses, leading to unpaid fines. He clarified that summonses remain the responsibility of the permit holder or company, not just the driver. 'It is their internal affair, including how they deal with their drivers,' he said. The Transport Ministry recently listed 11 goods vehicle operators and 17 express bus companies with high numbers of unpaid summonses. Separately, Loke discussed the My50 unlimited travel pass, currently valid for Prasarana Malaysia Bhd's rail and bus services. Talks are ongoing with Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) to introduce discounted monthly passes for KLIA Ekspres users. However, expanding the RM50 pass to all transport modes remains challenging. On parking issues at public transport stations, Loke encouraged the use of Rapid On-Demand (ROD) services to reduce congestion. 'The government cannot build park-and-ride facilities at every location. That's why we introduced ROD,' he said.

My50 Pass Now Accessible Via TnG eWallet
The My50 unlimited travel pass will be available for digital purchase and activation through the Touch 'n Go (TNG) eWallet app beginning July 1, 2025, announced Prasarana Malaysia and the Touch 'n Go Group. The move is part of the government's push for public transport digitalisation and the broader national cashless agenda. Commuters will no longer need to queue at counters, as the My50 pass can now be activated directly via smartphone. Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Prasarana, Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, said the digitalisation of My50 is a progressive step that enhances user convenience, improves accessibility and saves time for daily commuters. The initiative is open to all Malaysian citizens, who can activate the pass after completing electronic identity verification on the app. The move is expected to benefit the existing 250,000 My50 users and encourage more urban residents to adopt public transport. Touch 'n Go Chief Executive Officer Praba Sangarajoo said the initiative reflects the group's commitment to delivering innovative, tech-driven services that meet the daily needs of Malaysians. He added that the strategic partnership between TNG, Prasarana and the Ministry of Transport marks a significant milestone in modernising the country's public transport infrastructure. Looking ahead, Prasarana also plans to expand digitalisation to other products such as the MyCity pass, aimed at reducing reliance on cash transactions and enhancing the overall travel experience. My50 pass goes digital via TNG eWallet from July 1
KUALA LUMPUR: The My50 unlimited travel pass will transition to a digital renewal system via the Touch 'n Go (TNG) eWallet app starting July 1, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today. The new digital process allows users to renew their monthly passes using an NFC-enabled TNG card, removing the need for physical MyKad verification or queuing at Rapid KL counters. Loke highlighted that the current manual renewal system takes approximately three minutes per customer, often leading to long queues at busy stations. 'Users can verify their Malaysian citizenship through the e-KYC feature in the TNG eWallet app and renew their My50 pass seamlessly. No MyKad is required,' he said during the My50 Pass Digitalisation Briefing and Launch at KL Sentral LRT Station. The digitalisation project, developed at a cost of RM2.75 million over six months, aims to streamline the renewal process. While counter renewals with MyKad remain an option, the eWallet method is expected to reduce congestion significantly. 'TNG was selected due to its extensive payment network and existing e-KYC infrastructure, which covers over 24 million Malaysians,' Loke added. By year-end, the TNG eWallet will introduce a feature enabling users to track their My50 usage and monthly savings, aiding financial planning. The initiative will also extend to other travel passes, including MyCity and MyTourist, as part of broader efforts to digitalise public transport services. Loke emphasised that seamless ticketing systems are crucial for delivering efficient public transport, aligning with Kuala Lumpur's 2040 urban mobility goals. He encouraged operators to adopt emerging technologies like AI to enhance user convenience.

My50 unlimited travel pass goes digital starting July 1
By FARAH SOLHI MALAYSIANS can subscribe to Prasarana's My50 unlimited travel pass online now through Touch 'n Go e-wallet starting July 1 using their Touch 'n Go card that is equipped with an NFC chip. Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said that this feature will allow users to renew their pass at their convenience, instead of having to queue for two to three minutes at the counter. 'This digitalisation move is part of the government's ongoing efforts, together with Prasarana, to improve the convenience and public transport users' experience in the country. 'It is in line with the aspiration of digitalising the country's public transport services (in pursuit of) cashless consumption,' he said when officiating the features at a press briefing in KL Sentral today. Despite digitalisation, Loke said those who wish to remain renewing the pass using existing methods by queueing and renewing at Prasarana's ticketing counter, can still do so. He further said that this upgrade is equipped with safety features, given that the My50 passes are only limited to Malaysians. 'Those who wish to renew their pass through Touch 'n Go e-wallet still have to go through the e-KYC process when they want to activate and link their card to the application. 'In few more months, Prasarana and Touch 'n Go will also be introducing a feature where users can track their usage, allowing them to see which stations their card has been tapped in. 'This is to allow users to monitor their pass usage and travels, so that they get to grasp how much they are saving by subscribing to this monthly pass,' he said. Loke added that the travel-tracking features data would only be accessible to users individually as it will be recorded in their personal profile feature in the e-wallet. Public transport, he said, is not just about providing an adequate number of trains or busses but also supporting facilities such as ticketing systems is an important element in providing world-class public transport facilities 'All planning and development of new cities must take into account mobility facilities including an integrated public transport system, adequate and comprehensive pedestrian infrastructure and bus stops. '(Apart from this feature) Prasarana is also looking to expand the digitalisation initiative to other products such as MyCity and MyTourist passes. 'This aims to increase ease of access, reduce dependence on cash transactions and provide a convenient and fast travel experience,' he said. The My50 unlimited travel pass was introduced on December 1, 2018, as part of the then government to promote cashless society.
