Donald Trump Calls Bruce Springsteen A 'Dried Out Prune Of A Rocker' After Superstar Singer Deems POTUS 'Corrupt, Incompetent And Treasonous'

To very little surprise, Donald Trump responded to Bruce Springsteen's scathing take on his presidency earlier this week, as the president labeled him a 'dried out prune of a rocker.' At the start a European tour earlier this week, Springsteen lashed out at the president, telling a concert crowd in Manchester, England that Trump was leading 'a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.' In the midst of his tour of the Middle East, Trump responded on his social media platform Truth Social this morning. 'I see that Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States,' he wrote. 'Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he's not a talented guy — Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK, who fervently supported Crooked Joe Biden, a mentally incompetent FOOL, and our WORST EVER President, who came close to destroying our Country.' Trump also seemed irked that Springsteen made the comments outside of the United States, and seemed to suggest that there would be a backlash if he made the comments here. 'This dried out 'prune' of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that's just 'standard fare.' Then we'll all see how it goes for him!' Springsteen endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Joe Biden in 2020 and Hillary Clinton in 2016. On the tour, he said, 'The last check on power after the checks and balances have failed, are the people, you and me. It's in the union of people around a common set of values — now that's all that stands between democracy and authoritarianism.' Writers Guild Of America East Calls For Reinstatement Of 'Unlawfully Fired' Register Of Copyrights

The Writers Guild of America East is calling for the reinstatement of the Register of Copyrights Shira Perlmutter, tying her dismissal by the Trump administration to a release of a report on AI and copyright. The WGAE said that Perlmutter was 'unlawfully fired,' and noted that it came after the release of a report that failed to give credence to the argument that the use of copyrighted material in AI training models was a fair use. More from Deadline C-SPAN To Launch New Weekly Series 'CeaseFire' In Which Partisans Talk About Areas Of Agreement Museum Seeks To Close Funding Gap After Loss Of Federal Humanities Grant For Game Show Exhibit Bill Mechanic On Trump & Hollywood Tariff Quick-Fix - Sequel Guest Column The guild said in its statement, 'The Writers Guild of America East agrees with the report's assessment that artificial intelligence companies that train their systems through unauthorized access to copyrighted materials 'goes beyond established fair use boundaries' and causes harm to copyright owners. 'The findings issued under Perlmutter's authority stand in contrast to the opinion and financial interests of billionaires like Elon Musk and Sam Altman, Trump allies who own AI companies and want to freely steal copyrighted works to train their AI systems and undermine the dozens of copyright lawsuits against their companies.' The guild went on to demand her reinstatement 'as she is an employee of the legislative branch and the executive branch had no authority to fire her in the first place.' Trump also fired Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, who appointed Perlmutter. Even though Todd Blanche has been named acting Librarian of Congress, there has been some pushback even among Republican lawmakers over the president's efforts to seize control of the institution, per Politico. The Trump administration also has sought to install Brian Nieves, a Justice Department official, as deputy librarian, and Paul Perkins, the associate deputy attorney general, as acting register of copyrights and director of the office. But they were not allowed into the office on Monday and left, as officials at the office are awaiting direction from Congress as it is a legislative branch agency, according to a source familiar with what happened. Another industry union, IATSE, also has come to the defense of Perlmutter. 'This is a developing situation, and whether in fact Perlmutter's firing was in retaliation for releasing the AI report is unclear,' the union stated. 'However, it wouldn't surprise us to learn that tech billionaires are wielding their influence to interfere in our government for their own financial benefit. Shira Perlmutter has served with distinction as Register of Copyrights and she must be reinstated at the behest of Congress.' C-SPAN To Launch New Weekly Series ‘CeaseFire' In Which Partisans Talk About Areas Of Agreement

C-SPAN plans to debut a new weekly series this fall that will be a twist on many cable panel shows: Instead of arguing, politicos will talk about where they find agreement. CeaseFire is the brainchild of CEO Sam Feist, who departed CNN last year to lead the public affairs network. It was CNN that pioneered the left vs. right face off on its long-running Crossfire, which Feist once oversaw. More from Deadline Bill Mechanic On Trump & Hollywood Tariff Quick-Fix - Sequel Guest Column Bruce Springsteen Says Trump Is Running "A Corrupt, Incompetent And Treasonous Administration" Judge Hears Arguments In Corporation For Public Broadcasting's Challenge To Donald Trump's Removal Of Three Board Members CeaseFire will feature members of Congress and national figures 'who typically wouldn't be paired, sitting down together to honestly discuss what they agree on, not what they don't,' per C-SPAN. 'In a media landscape that too often rewards outrage over understanding, CeaseFire stands out by showing what respectful, principled conversation looks like,' Feist said in a statement. 'C-SPAN may be the only television network in 2025 uniquely equipped to air a program like this—operating as a non-profit public service, we aren't driven by ratings or drama, but by a mission to inform, educate and empower an engaged citizenry.' The New York Times first reported on the new show. C-SPAN is funded by cable and satellite companies and, amid more consumers cutting the cord, has been in a push to expand to streaming. But one of the largest services, YouTube TV, has so far been resistant to carry the channel. The network has drawn the attention of one key viewer: President Donald Trump. He has recently talked of watching the channel, even at 3 a.m. in the morning. MSNBC Hires Politico's Sudeep Reddy As Washington Bureau Chief

Sudeep Reddy, a veteran of Politico and The Wall Street Journal, will be MSNBC's first Washington, D.C. bureau chief as the network is spun off from parent NBCUniversal and Comcast later this year. The D.C. bureau will be at the Hall of States building, the same complex where NBC News is now. But the network said that it will be separate from the broadcast outlet, which will no longer be a sister network. More from Deadline Bruce Springsteen Says Trump Is Running "A Corrupt, Incompetent And Treasonous Administration" Judge Hears Arguments In Corporation For Public Broadcasting's Challenge To Donald Trump's Removal Of Three Board Members CNN Plans Launch Of New Streaming Service This Fall In a memo to staffers, Scott Matthews, the senior VP of newsgathering for MSNBC, wrote that Reddy 'will lead our Washington team to focus not just on the happenings inside Washington but also on how decisions in the capital will impact people across the nation and around the world.' Reddy will start on June 16. He most recently has been senior managing editor of Politico, leading a staff of 150 journalists. He previously was at The Wall Street Journal, including as an economics editor in D.C. directing coverage of U.S. and international economic news. He also is on on-air contributor for American Public Media's Marketplace for the past 15 years. Matthews wrote that while at Politico, Reddy 'launched dozens of new products, including newsletters, podcasts, live events and digital offerings; guided strategy and operations for Politico Playbook during the first Trump administration; and built the newsroom's first audio team from the ground up.' Reddy will report to Matthews and work with Erin Zimmerman, vice president of newsgathering. Matthews plans to hired more than 100 journalists as MSNBC builds a newsroom. The team of correspondents will include those covering the White House, Capitol Hill, the State Department, the Justice Department and the Supreme Court.
