Nikolas Red's ‘Posthouse' Wraps Production, First Looks at Horror Exploring Philippines' Lost Film Heritage Unveiled (EXCLUSIVE)

Evolve Studios has unveiled the first looks for 'Posthouse,' the feature directorial debut from Nikolas Red that recently wrapped production in Manila. The supernatural horror film, which explores the Philippines' lost silent film history through a modern ghost story, is now entering post-production with sights set on this year's festival circuit. 'We just wrapped production and are excited to finish post and find opportunities in the festival circuit. We are aiming to release this year,' revealed cult filmmaker Mikhail Red, who serves as creative producer on his brother's debut feature. The project stars Sid Lucero (Netflix's 'Outside') as Cyril and Bea Binene (Prime Video's 'Nokturno') as Rea. 'I really wanted to support Nikolas' unique and creative vision and his take on cinema heritage and horror,' Mikhail Red said. 'I saw much potential in the project after development with producer Iana Bernardez, and after we pitched it together in the Udine all genres project market of the Far East Film Festival.' Nikolas Red, previously known for his work as editor and co-writer on his brother's films, drew inspiration for 'Posthouse' from a personal experience while editing the 2018 horror film 'Eerie' and his research into the Philippines' lost cinematic heritage. 'I wanted to make a horror film set in a posthouse because of something that happened to me — while editing the feature film 'Eerie,' a horror film, I came across an outtake that deeply disturbed me. That moment never left me, and it planted the seed for this story,' the first-time director explained. 'I fell into researching lost silent films and was struck by the fact that none of the Philippines' silent films have survived. That grief — over a vanished cultural memory — became central to the narrative. In a way, this film is my love letter to the ghosts of our cinematic heritage,' Nikolas Red added. 'Posthouse' is produced by Iana Bernardez with Mikhail Red serving as creative producer. The film is a co-production between Evolve Studios, Studio Viva, and Viva Films. The project has gethered significant development support through its journey, beginning at the NAFF Fantastic Film School (2020) where the concept was first developed. It later advanced through Full Circle Lab Philippines (2022) with backing from the Film Development Council of the Philippines. That same year, 'Posthouse' gained international recognition at the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) at BIFAN 2022, securing both the VIPO Award and Asian Discovery Award, which included approximately $15,000 in project funding. Kim Chiu, Paulo Avelino Rom-Com ‘My Love Will Make You Disappear' Scores Robust North American Opening Weekend

Filipino superstars Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino have proven their chemistry translates to theatrical gold with their debut film pairing 'My Love Will Make You Disappear,' which pulled in approximately $500,000 during its opening weekend across North America. The ABS-CBN Star Cinema romantic comedy, released by Abramorama, is now tracking for a projected $1.3M-$1.5 million theatrical run, positioning it among the top five highest-grossing Filipino films in North America since the pandemic. Industry veterans Amorette Jones, Evan Saxon and Joe Garel spearheaded the North American rollout, leveraging the considerable star power of the film's leads. Chiu and Avelino, with a combined social media following exceeding 40 million, had previously established their on-screen chemistry in two hit television series, 'Linlang' and 'What Happened to Secretary Kim.' While both actors have individually headlined successful films, 'My Love Will Make You Disappear' marks their first time co-starring in a feature film. The theatrical marketing campaign strategically targeted core Filipino-American audiences while expanding its reach to Asian-American, Hispanic and general moviegoers. The campaign capitalized on the stars' robust fan base to drive social media engagement, formed strategic partnerships with ABS-CBN Global's flagship platform for overseas audiences, and deployed a mix of digital, social and in-platform promotions. Directed by Chad Vidanes from an original screenplay by Patrick Valencia and Isabella Policarpio, the film continues ABS-CBN's mission of bringing Filipino storytelling to global audiences. The story centers on universal themes of love, resilience and fate while showcasing 'kilig' — the uniquely Filipino feeling of romantic exhilaration — as a cultural export. In the film, Chiu plays Sari, a woman who believes she's cursed because every man she loves mysteriously disappears. To protect herself from heartbreak, she swears off romance until meeting Jolo (Avelino), a brooding landlord struggling with personal failures and the burden of a failing apartment complex. As they work together to save the community from displacement, their bond deepens, forcing Sari to decide whether she's willing to risk Jolo disappearing too. Chiu brings her signature charm to the role, drawing on her extensive experience across genres including romantic comedies ('Bride for Rent'), drama ('Etiquette for Mistresses') and horror ('The Ghost Bride'). Avelino, acclaimed for his intense performances in films like 'Heneral Luna' and 'Fan Girl,' balances brooding charisma with humor as Jolo. The film's strong opening continues ABS-CBN and Star Cinema's momentum in expanding Filipino cinema internationally, following the studio's global success with 'Rewind,' the highest-grossing Filipino film worldwide. Chiu brings her box office draw from hits like 'Bride for Rent' and 'The Ghost Bride,' while Avelino leverages his dramatic chops from acclaimed turns in 'Heneral Luna' and 'Fan Girl.' The distribution team that delivered the record-breaking 'Hello, Love, Again' is back in action, with AJMC's Amorette Jones spearheading marketing alongside distribution veterans Evan Saxon and Joe Garel. The marketing push aims to capitalize on the stars' massive following while courting broader Asian-American and Hispanic audiences. AJMC's campaign will lean heavily on social media engagement and strategic partnerships with Filipino-American brands, while utilizing ABS-CBN Global's international platform. The distribution strategy follows the playbook that made 'Hello, Love, Again' the highest-grossing Filipino film in North America. 'Our per-screen averages surpassed even the biggest Hollywood studio films,' Saxon and Garel noted, highlighting the growing appetite for Filipino content in the global market. 'Filipino films continue to gain recognition worldwide, and 'My Love Will Make You Disappear' is a testament to the power of kilig as a cultural export,' says ABS-CBN Films head Kriz Gazmen, referring to kilig – that distinctly Filipino feeling of romantic exhilaration that's become a hallmark of the country's entertainment exports. For Star Cinema, which has produced over 200 films since its 1993 founding, the release represents another step in expanding Filipino cinema's international footprint. The studio continues to target Filipino audiences worldwide while building bridges to broader markets through universal themes and star power.
