Thousands hit the ground running in Myrtle Beach Marathon

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Almost 4,000 people hit the ground running Saturday morning at the Myrtle Beach Marathon. For the 28th year, participants ran nine beachfront miles starting at 6:30 a.m. Both marathon and half-marathon runners needed to run at a 15-minute per mile pace and cross the finish line behind Pelicans Ballpark. One runner said how he and his teammates on the Carolina Forest High School soccer team trained for the 5K. 'Between every lap, the first four laps, we do 20 push-ups,' Iain Sherrill said. 'The next four laps, we do 20 sit-ups. Then, the last four laps, we run with the ball.' Another runner retired from collegiate cross-country and track about a year ago. She said the Myrtle Beach Marathon gave her the chance to run back in. 'I had to take a long break,' Chloe McDaniel said. 'But it feels really good to be back at it and enjoy it again.' Family and friends cheered for their runners with homemade signs, and everyone celebrated their hard work with good food and lots of rest. Some runners said support from the sidelines pushed them to the finish line. Others said the support from their fellow runners was just as important. 'I literally could not have finished this race without these people,' Rebecca Ward said. Aubrey Quillen said: 'This is a very special group of friends, and a special group of runners.' Michael Labaugh of Pawleys Island crossed this marathon's finish line as well, but he said there is more to run. 'We have a full marathon coming up that we'll be going to Spain for, in Valencia,' Labaugh said. 'So, I think this is just the beginning.' Jeffrey Wesolowski was the overall full marathon winner. Natalie Daniels was first among females. * * * Skylar Musick is a multimedia journalist at News13. Skylar is originally from Long Island, New York. Still sunny, but not as warm

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The rain has moved out, and everything we saw yesterday was short-lived. There is no rain in the forecast today, but that cold front will take away the well above-average temperatures. Today's highs will be near normal at the beach in the mid-60s, and the Pee Dee will still be slightly above, but only by 4-6 degrees with highs in the upper-60s to near 70. Skies remain clear tonight and we will be down in the 40s. The Myrtle Beach Marathon begins tomorrow morning and it will be a beautiful day with temperatures in the upper-40s and the mid-60s by 11 a.m. Highs tomorrow will return to the 70s, but there is another cold front in sight. A dry cold front will drop across the Carolinas throughout the afternoon and dip temperatures to highs only in the 50s for Sunday and Monday. The Pee Dee is likely to see another freeze Sunday night into Monday morning. The beaches will be in the mid-30s. Sunshine is the headline for Monday and Tuesday, and temperatures do begin to warm to the 70s on Tuesday. We will monitor for a cold front and some storms for the middle of next week. A cold front will take away above average temperatures

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. ( WBTW) — Temperatures are significantly warmer this morning, with most cities in the 50s. Skies will be clear this morning, and clouds will slowly increase throughout the day ahead of a cold front. The afternoon will be dry and warm, with temperatures in the mid- and upper-70s. A cold front moves through this evening with a few showers. The Pee Dee should expect rain from 5-8 p.m. and the Grand Strand from 8-11 p.m. Not much accumulation will come. It will be light rain. The front will set the temperatures back into the low-60s on Friday. The Myrtle Beach Marathon is Saturday morning and runners should expect sunshine and upper-40s at 7 a.m. The afternoon will be warmer with highs in the upper-60s at the coast and mid-70s inland, but another cold front approaches Saturday night into Sunday. No rain is expected with Sunday's front and temperatures will lower to the upper-50s Sunday and Monday, then gradually warm again next week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
