Nashville music community mourns deaths of ‘American Idol' executive, husband

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An 'American Idol' executive and her songwriting husband, with close ties to Nashville, were found dead in their California home, leaving many people heartbroken. The couple — identified as Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca, both 70 years old — were discovered with multiple gunshot wounds on Monday, July 14 after officers responded to the upscale Encino, California, residence for a welfare check around 2:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Authorities said they believe the suspect, 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian of Encino, entered the home through an unlocked door. Then, when the homeowners returned, a violent struggle reportedly ensued between the couple and the suspect, resulting in the victims' deaths, before Boodarian ran off. ORIGINAL STORY | 'American Idol' executive, her husband fatally shot in California home: reports According to the Associated Press, investigators believe Boodarian was burglarizing the home several days earlier while the couple was away, but even though police were called to the residence on Thursday, July 10, they found no signs of trouble or forced entry. Among the couple's close friends is Ronnie Brooks, who was in a band with Deluca called The Piggies in the late 1970s and early 1980s. 'Tom and I had played music together, and so I can just say, locally, that we had lots of fans that loved Tom's music, his writing and singing, and what we did as a band, and then Robin, her career really blossomed when they got to L.A.,' Brooks recalled. PREVIOUS | Arrest made in deadly shooting of 'American Idol' executive, her husband in California Brooks and Deluca both played the guitar, and that passion for music developed into a close friendship that lasted many years. He considered them family, adding that they always insisted Brooks stay at their home while visiting Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Kaye was an award-winning music producer who had worked on 'American Idol' since 2009, but she had also worked on Miss Universe, the NAACP Image Awards, and other high-profile shows, according to News 2's sister station, KTLA. 'We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband Tom's passing. Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came into contact with her,' an 'American Idol' spokesperson said in a statement sent to KTLA. 'Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathies with her family and friends during this difficult time.' ⏩ If you have any information that will help with this ongoing double homicide investigation, you're asked to contact LAPD's Valley Homicide Division at 818-374-9550. Arrest made in deadly shooting of ‘American Idol' executive, her husband in California

ENCINO, Cali. (KTLA) — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 'American Idol' executive and her husband in Encino, Calif., officials with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed. The couple, identified by police as Robin Kaye, 70, and Thomas Deluca, 70, were discovered deceased with multiple gunshot wounds, including to the head, on July 14, only after officers responded to the upscale residence for a welfare check at around 2:30 p.m., according to an LAPD news release. During the investigation, detectives learned that a prior radio call for a possible burglary at the residence had been made on July 10 at around 4 p.m. Speaking with Nexstar's KTLA, neighbor Amee Faggen confirmed that a renter on her property made a 911 call that day after spotting someone climbing the property's fence. Police said there were no signs of forced entry or trouble at the residence during that investigation, though they now believe the suspect, identified as Encino resident Raymond Boodarian, entered the home through an unlocked door. 'He was there for approximately half of an hour,' LAPD Lt. Guy Golan said at a news conference. 'When the homeowners returned back to their residence, a violent struggle ensued between them and the suspect, who was already inside their home, which resulted in the victims tragically losing their lives.' The 22-year-old, according to police, fled the area on foot after the deadly confrontation. LAPD, with the assistance of the FBI's Fugitive Task Force, arrested Boodarian Tuesday, though no information about where he was taken into custody was provided. Arrest made in macabre 'human flesh' teddy bear prank in Southern California Kaye was an award-winning music producer and part of the 'American Idol' family since 2009. She had also worked on Miss Universe, the NAACP Image Awards, and other high-profile shows. A spokesperson for 'American Idol' released a statement to KTLA, saying: 'We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband Tom's passing. Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came into contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathies with her family and friends during this difficult time.' Guy Cohen, a security expert, had worked with the couple only a few months ago after Kaye and Deluca were victims of an earlier home invasion. 'We consulted with them just a couple of months ago, and to think that maybe we could've prevented this from happening is just heartbreaking,' he told KTLA. While police have not yet identified a motive, investigators are attempting to determine whether Boodarian had any connection to the couple and if he was involved in any of the past calls for service at the residence. The investigation into the double homicide remains ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD's Valley Homicide Division at 818-374-9550. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers online or at 800-222-8477.

Who was Robin Kaye, American Idol music supervisor shot dead along with husband at LA home (Career details, personal life, net worth inside)

Robin Kaye, an award-winning music supervisor for American Idol, the well-known competition show, was found dead along with her musician husband, Thomas Deluca (singer-songwriter), in a suspected double murder inside their $4.5 million Los Angeles home. The double murder, according to cops, took place after an apparent break-in at their house in the upscale Encino neighborhood. Robin and her husband were both 70. The couple's bodies were found during a 'welfare check' Monday afternoon after they had not been heard from in four days, the LAPD said. Both victims had what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head. Who was Robin Kaye? Robin Kaye was the celebrated music supervisor behind more than a decade of American Idol magic, an often under‑the‑radar force whose expert ear shaped the show's iconic soundtrack. Kaye built a career that spanned genres, formats, and decades. Her career in music supervision began in the late 1990s, with her earliest credits tracing back to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (season 3, 1998). She later held key roles in Nashville (working with Waylon Jennings, MTM Records) before transitioning to Los Angeles, where she worked for Universal Records and PolyGram. In 2000, she founded SyncroniCity to represent artists like Andrea Bocelli, Kenny Loggins, Lang Lang, Donny Osmond, and Stephen Bishop. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Kaye's landmark achievement was music supervision for American Idol. Beginning with a single episode of American Idol in 2002, Kaye became the show's go‑to music supervisor from 2009 to 2023 – spanning a total of 288 episodes. Kaye also worked on Lip Sync Battle, Hollywood Game Night, The Singing Bee, Miss USA/Miss Universe, NAACP Image Awards, and more, showcasing her versatility and top-tier reputation. Her accolades include three Guild of Music Supervisors Awards for her work on Idol, plus supervision duties on Lip Sync Battle, Hollywood Game Night, Miss USA/Universe, The Singing Bee, and the NAACP Image Awards. Personal life: Robin – aged 70 at the time of her death – was married to singer‑songwriter Thomas 'Tom' DeLuca, also 70. DeLuca was a seasoned singer-songwriter whose 1986 debut album, Down to the Wire, earned him a place, and he wrote songs for notable artists such as Kid Rock, Meredith Brooks, Diesel, and Mickey Dolenz. The couple relocated from Nashville to Los Angeles, purchasing an Encino estate (previously owned by Juice WRLD) for approximately $4.5 million in 2023. They reportedly did not have public children, and both were treasured figures in the industry, revered for their kindness and professionalism. Net worth: There are no confirmed financial figures or public records of Kaye's (or Tom's) net worth. However, their Encino property, market salary ranges, and DeLuca's songwriting royalties suggest significant wealth. Their Encino home reportedly sold for around $4.5 million in 2023, in a neighborhood known for multimillion‑dollar real estate. Moreover, Kaye's lengthy and decorated run in her professional career on high‑budget television certainly earned high compensation. Music supervisors on nationally televised series typically earn mid- to high-six-figure annual salaries; multi-award winners like Kaye would be at the upper end – especially with all the accolades and seniority. Similarly, DeLuca's songwriting royalties and publishing deals would have contributed reliably. The sale of their house – coupled with income from Kaye's 15‑season tenure and DeLuca's publishing deals – indicates a combined net worth likely in the $5 million to $10 million range.
