Distribution of ration goods to senior citizens, physically challenged persons at their doorstep begins in Tiruchi region

Distribution of ration items to senior citizens and the physically challenged at their doorstep under the Thayumanavar scheme began in Tiruchi and other central districts on Tuesday. Shortly after Chief Minister M.K. Stalin flagged off the scheme at a function held in Chennai, Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru distributed the ration items to beneficiaries on Nachiyar Street in Woraiyur in the presence of Collector V. Saravanan, Mayor M. Anbazhagan and Corporation Commissioner L. Madubalan. Similarly, Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi flagged off the vehicles carrying ration items to the targeted beneficiaries at a separate function held at Melakalkandarkottai. The scheme will be implemented in the jurisdiction of 1,280 fair price shops in the district. As per a survey, there are 62,395 heads of family cards, who are aged 70 and above. The number of family heads, who are classified as physically challenged, is 5,549. A total of 67,944 family heads will get ration items at their doorstep. The staff members of the fair price shops will carry the required quantity of ration items in vehicles on second Saturday and Sunday of every month. The vehicle will be equipped with all necessary gadgets including e-point of sale (ePoS) and weighing machine. PUDUKOTTAI More than 27,000 family card holders, who are above 70 years of age and physically challenged persons, will benefit under the Chief Minister's Thayumanavar scheme in Pudukottai district. While Minister for Natural Resources S. Regupathy inaugurated the scheme at Kayapunjai near Ponnamaravathi, Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Siva. Meyyanathan distributed ration items to the beneficiaries at Chidambaraviduthi near Aranthangi. ARIYALUR In Ariyalur, Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar flagged the scheme at Namankunam near Sendurai on Tuesday in the presence of Collector P. Rathinasamy. Mr. Sivasankar said that out of 2.51 lakh family card holders, 19,661 card holders would be benefited under the scheme. It would save the time and energy of senior citizens and physically challenged persons in getting ration items. KARUR More than 8,650 family card holders will be delivered ration goods at their doorsteps under the Chief Minister's Thayumanavar Scheme in Karur district. Karur MLA V. Senthilbalaji, who took part in a function held near Vanjiamman Temple here, distributed ration commodities to a group of beneficiaries. Collector M. Thangavel and senior officials participated in it. TIRUVARUR Collector V. Mohanachandiran flagged off the vehicles transporting ration commodities to distribute them to the targeted beneficiaries in Tiruvarur in the presence of Poondi. K. Kalaivanan, MLA. The Collector said that 34,197 persons would be benefited under the scheme. NAGAPATTINAM Collector A. Akash, who signalled the inauguration of the Chief Minister's Thayumanavar scheme at Perumal South Madavilagam, said that 21,203 persons would be benefited under the scheme. They would get the ration commodities on the second Saturday and Sunday of every month.
