Rockingham Speedway listed for sale
Less than six weeks after hosting the return of the NASCAR Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series, Rockingham Speedway is for sale. It is listed by CBRE, a real estate and investment company. The Charlotte Observer first reported the sale. 'We've basically taken it in first gear as far as we can go, building it out, getting it ready for bigger and better hands,' Dan Lovenheim, who purchased the track in August 2018, told The Charlotte Observer. 'And the time is right to pass the baton to someone who can take it farther than we can.' No price is listed for the facility. Rockingham Speedway hosted the NASCAR Cup Series from 1965-2004 and the Xfinity Series from 1982-2004 before those race dates went away. The track, located about 90 minutes east of Charlotte, North Carolina, hosted the Truck Series in 2012 and 2013 before going away. Lovenheim made several upgrades to the track after purchasing it and the Xfinity and Truck Series returned this year to much fanfare. In the offering memorandum by CBRE, it states a three-year 'existing agreement' with NASCAR for Rockingham Speedway to host the Xfinity and Truck Series in 2025, '26 and '27. NASCAR has not announced any 2026 or 2027 dates. The Charlotte Observer reported that a NASCAR spokesperson stated that no agreement had been signed with Rockingham for 2026 and beyond.

Australian Supercars driver Jack Perkins to make NASCAR Xfinity debut with Joe Gibbs Racing
Jack Perkins, who competes in the Australian Supercars series, will make his NASCAR Xfinity debut Aug. 30 at Portland International Raceway with Joe Gibbs Racing, the team announced Thursday. 'This is a long-held dream come true for me, and I am so excited about driving in NASCAR's Xfinity Series for the legendary Joe Gibbs,' Perkins said in a statement from the team. 'I started thinking about competing in NASCAR when I first visited the U.S. in 2008 to watch Marcos Ambrose at Sonoma, and be a spotter for Paul Morris, who was contesting an ARCA West race the same weekend. 'It's been a long journey to get here. I've come close a few times, but we couldn't quite get all the ducks lined up. To do it now with Coach Gibbs and JGR proves you should never give up.' Dustin Long, Perkins arrived in the U.S. earlier this week and has spent time at Joe Gibbs Racing. He's undergone a seat fitting and been in the Toyota Racing Development simulator. He will attend the Xfinity race and the Coca-Cola 600 this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. 'Jack has a distinguished career in the Australian Supercars series and came highly recommended by James Small, our crew chief on the No. 19 team in the Cup Series,' said Steve DeSouza, Executive Vice President Xfinity Series and Development, in a statement from the team. 'We're excited to have him make his Xfinity Series debut with us on the road course in Portland.' Said Perkins of Small: 'James and I grew up together, running round Australia's race paddocks as kids while our dads were busy doing their things, and we've remained close mates. James will be at Darlington with the Cup Series the weekend we're racing in Portland, but he's doing everything he can to help me prepare and ensure JGR and I have a successful experience. Without James, the whole deal just wouldn't be happening.' Perkins has three Repco Supercars Championship podium finishes, nine race victories and 35 podiums in the Dunlop Super2, the Supercars equivalent of NASCAR's Xfinity Series.

JR Motorsports Gives Connor Zilisch Playoff Eligibility Update Amid Back Injury
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. JR Motorsports has provided an update on Connor Zilisch's playoff eligibility after confirming that the 18-year-old driver will miss the Texas NASCAR Xfinity Series race due to a back injury. The Dale Earnhardt Jr.-led team confirmed in a statement that, "Connor Zilisch has been granted a playoff waiver by NASCAR and remains qualified for the 2025 NXS Playoffs." To be eligible for the playoffs, drivers have to be competing full-time. As Zilisch is only out of the race weekend due to an injury/medical reason, this decision from NASCAR was expected. Zilisch was leading the final lap of the NASCAR Xfinity race at Talladega last weekend when he was hit from behind by Jesse Love. The tap from the Richard Childress Racing driver sent Zilisch into a spin before he crashed into the barriers head-on. Continuing to cascade across the track, he eventually came to a stop. After visiting the infield medical center, he explained that he was "grateful to be walking." Connor Zilisch, driver of the #88 WeatherTech Chevrolet, loduring qualifying for the NASCAR Xfinity Series North Carolina Education Lottery 250 presented by Black's Tire at Rockingham Speedway on April 19, 2025 in Rockingham, North Carolina. Connor Zilisch, driver of the #88 WeatherTech Chevrolet, loduring qualifying for the NASCAR Xfinity Series North Carolina Education Lottery 250 presented by Black's Tire at Rockingham Speedway on April 19, 2025 in Rockingham, North drivers have said about the Zilisch x Love wreck Connor Zilisch Speaking after the race, Zilisch explained: "Yeah, I'm okay. "That's one of the wrecks where you move your legs and make sure everything feels okay afterwards. So, very grateful to drive safe JR Motorsports race cars. "Our WeatherTech Chevrolet was as fast as Xfinity Mobile. We were in the right spot, just, yeah, I haven't really watched it close enough to know what happened. But yeah, grateful to be up and walking." He added a day later: "Sore today but more than anything just upset that I couldn't close that one out for my team. If we keep putting ourselves in position to win races, it will come. Thank you to everyone who reached out to make sure I was okay." Jesse Love Love, who is close friends with Zilisch, commented directly after the race: "I just got really good pushes there at the end. "I was able to lift enough off of [Turn] 2 to get big pushes. I kind of thought we made our bed and were not in a good spot to win, and then I was able to get Austin [Hill] connected to me and he was able to give me some good pushes down the backstretch for a few laps. It was definitely tough how that ended. I hope my friend is okay. "I'm not going to comment on what I thought happened there yet. I just want to go check on him and make sure he's alright. Looked like a really hard hit, and he really hasn't taken many hard hits yet." Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt Jr. also shared a message of encouragement for his team's driver, writing: "It sucks to see Connor have to sit out but I'm thankful he is being smart and patient with this injury. "He'll be back in the seat and back at the front of the field soon enough."

Two Xfinity Teams Slammed With Major Penalties as NASCAR Drops the Hammer
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. NASCAR has confirmed two L1-level penalties for two NASCAR Xfinity teams: No. 87 Jordan Anderson Racing Chevrolet and the No. 99 Viking Motorsports Chevrolet. This follows the pre-race inspection at Talladega Superspeedway last weekend, where both cars violated regulations to their rear bumper covers. Sections 14.4.A and 14.4.11.C&D in the NASCAR Rule Book were specifically violated. With this, both teams have been fined $25,000 and deducted 20 driver and owner points, as well as 5 playoff points. Austin Green, driver of the Chevrolet, therefore drops to 48th position in the drivers' standings. Matt DiBenedetto, coming off a successful weekend at Talladega, stays in 24th place in the standings. Christian Eckes, driver of the #16 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet, Austin Hill, driver of the #21 Bennett Transportation Chevrolet, Jeb Burton, driver of the #27 Golden Corral Chevrolet, Sammy Smith, driver of the #8 Pilot... MoreThe Rule Book states: "Unless otherwise specified, all body components must be used as supplied from the manufacturer without modifications." According to the violations confirmed by NASCAR, Sections 14.4.11.C&D specifically require teams to use the rear bumper cover Superspeedway extension, Five Star part #15001-45212, and also ensure that this extension must conform to NASCAR's specifications. The rear bumper cover extensions have a specific design to match the high speeds of superspeedway racing and how drafting creates unique aerodynamic demands for each car.
