'Either Announce Ukraine Ceasefire Within 50 Days Or Face 100% Tariffs': Trump To Russia
Last Updated: Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration after US-brokered talks have failed to negotiate a truce between Russia and Ukraine so far. US President Donald Trump on Monday warned that his administration would impose 100% tariffs on Russia if Moscow and Kyiv fail to reach a ceasefire deal within 50 days. Trump made the remarks during a joint appearance at the White House with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, amid ongoing diplomatic pressure on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. 'I use trade for a lot of things," he added. 'But it's great for settling wars." Meanwhile, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has promised that Ukraine will receive 'massive numbers" of weapons under the NATO-US agreement. Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration after US-brokered talks have failed to negotiate a truce between Russia and Ukraine so far. On Sunday, the US President said he was 'very disappointed" with Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of saying one thing and doing another. 'I thought he was somebody that meant what he said — and he'll talk so beautifully, then he'll bomb people at night. We don't like that," he told reporters, while confirming that the US will send Patriot air defence missiles to Kyiv. Trump's Change Of Rhetoric Trump initially was conciliatory toward Putin, for whom Trump has long shown admiration. But in recent days the Republican leader has expressed increasing exasperation with Putin, criticising the Russian leader for his unbudging stance on US-led peace efforts and for prolonging the war. On the other hand, Trump has adopted a softer stance with Zelenskyy after a bitter public spat in the Oval Office in February, as indicated by his decision to send Patriot systems amid increased Russian aerial attacks. 'This is billions of dollars worth of military equipment is going to be purchased from the United States, going to NATO… and that's going to be quickly distributed to the battlefield," Trump said on Monday. Trump's announcement on Monday came as his special envoy, Keith Kellogg, arrived in Kyiv to meet Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian President hailed the 'productive meeting", saying they had discussed 'strengthening Ukraine's air defence, joint production, and procurement of defence weapons in collaboration with Europe." Meanwhile, Russian forces on Monday said they had captured new territory in eastern Ukraine with the seizure of two villages, one in the Donetsk region and another in the Zaporizhzhia region. Three civilians were also killed in eastern Kharkiv and Sumy regions. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. ISTANBUL, July 15 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday welcomed a new NATO-US arrangement to deliver Patriot missile systems and other military aid to Ukraine, following talks with US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. In a statement posted on X, Zelensky described his conversation with Trump as 'very good,' adding that they discussed efforts 'to stop the killings and establish a lasting and just peace.' He said Trump had briefed him on his earlier meeting with Rutte and stressed the importance of increased defence spending by Alliance members, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. bootstrap slideshow 'We reviewed steps to improve protection against Russian attacks and agreed to coordinate our actions moving forward,' said Zelensky. He also spoke with Rutte, who updated him on the discussions in Washington and reaffirmed NATO's ongoing support for Ukraine. 'We appreciate the readiness to provide additional Patriot systems. The US, Germany, and Norway are already working jointly on this,' Zelensky said, noting that further weapons deliveries were expected to strengthen Ukraine's defences. 'Russia must be forced to stop the killings. This war continues solely because of Russia due to Putin's desire to prolong it. Peace is only possible through strength,' he added. Zelensky also underscored the need to cut off Russia's war financing and to end its military ties with Iran and North Korea. He said new joint decisions were in the works with the US, Germany and Norway regarding Patriot air defence systems, alongside long-term defence agreements with Washington.
