Just how realistic would a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to the Boston Celtics be?

Just how realistic would a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to the Boston Celtics be? We have heard some speculation from well-connected members of the national NBA media suggest that such a swap with the Milwaukee Bucks could be on the table given the potential return for the Bucks would match the sort of ask they would have in mind for the Greek Freak. But what about in the other direction? Would Boston be up to trade away the sort of package it would take to get Giannis on the Celtics roster given it would almost certainly require dealing away star Boston forward Jaylen Brown? Advertisement The hosts of the CLNS Media "Garden Report" podcast, Bobby Manning, Noa Dalzell, Jimmy Toscano, A. Sherrod Blakely and John Zannis debated such a deal and its merits on a recent episode of their show. Check it out below! Timberwolves reportedly were very serious about trading for Kevin Durant at deadline

Around the trade deadline, Kevin Durant was surprised when what had been Phoenix's efforts to trade Bradley Beal suddenly pivoted to KD in trade talks with the Golden State Warriors and others. One of those others was Minnesota — pairing Anthony Edwards and his idol — and it was serious about landing Durant, reports ESPN's Brian Windhorst on the Hoop Collective Podcast (hat tip Real GM). Advertisement "It became clear to me in talking to the parties involved just how serious the Wolves were about trying to trade for Kevin Durant at the trade deadline." However, pulling the trade together at the time was impossible because both teams were over the second apron of the luxury tax, which imposed various restrictions on any deal (neither team could aggregate players, nor could either team take back $1 more than it sent out). This summer, the Timberwolves have three core players who can — and will — be free agents that they must make decisions on: Julius Randle and Naz Reid have player options they are expected not to pick up, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker is a free agent. However, with all those guys off the books July 1, there would be cap space to revisit a Durant trade. The question is, after a playoff run to the second round where Minnesota seemed to find an identity and path forward, do they want to shake things up with another blockbuster trade? Advertisement "I'm not arguing that Durant is going to end up in Minnesota... If you look at Tim Connelly, he made the big [Rudy] Gobert trade. He made the big trade of KAT for Julius Randle and DiVincenzo." Durant is going to get traded this summer, the only real question is where (talk on that front has been quiet around the league so far, but the wide-ranging expectation is that he will get moved, something mutual between him and Phoenix). Minnesota is not entirely off the table in those talks. It's something to watch, although the more likely path is the Timberwolves bringing back Randle and Alexander-Walker — Reid may be too expensive, and other teams can offer a larger role, although Minnesota wants to keep him — and tweaking the roster from there.

Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo?

Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo? With the Celtics currently a second apron ball club staring down the largest payroll and tax bill in the history of the NBA, a trade for a player making as much as Giannis does makes very little sense at first glance. But what if the deal involved multiple teams, and also sent out other players to help Boston get cheaper as well? Would such a deal need to include one of star forwards Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown? Such scenarios quickly get very complex from a cap rules point of view, but it would not be impossible to get the Bucks star on the Celtics roster. The question is more about whether it would make sense. Advertisement The folks behind the "NBC Sports Boston" YouTube channel put together a clip with Chris Forsberg and Trenni Casey on "Arbella Early Edition" to talk it all over. Check it out below! Golden State Warriors Nearly Traded Draymond Green For An Unbelievable Package

Draymond Green has been a featured face of the Golden State Warriors for years, but the latest intel out of San Francisco has revealed that the 4x champion was nearly traded to the Grizzlies for an unexpected return. Reportedly, the Warriors were in the final stages of giving up Draymond in a swap for Steven Adams, Dillon Brooks, and Tyus Jones. "There was a deal in place [in Summer 2023] to send Draymond to Memphis… In that trade, Steven Adams would have come back to Golden State along with Dillon Brooks and Tyus Jones," said Logan Murdock on the Zach Lowe Show. "The reason why that deal fell through is because Tyus Jones got re-routed to Washington [in the Porzingis-Marcus Smart trade]." Advertisement The offseason has officially begun for the Warriors after a second-round defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves. With Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry, they'll be looking to add to their supporting cast this summer, but options are limited on the trade front. Recently, some Warriors fans have even been calling for a Draymond Green trade. And while Dray is not currently on the market, the Warriors have already tried to get rid of him in the past. The reported trade negotiations with the Grizzlies happened only two years ago, in the summer of 2023. Fresh off an elimination to the Lakers in the Conference Semifinals, the Warriors knew they needed to mix things up to stay competitive in the final stretch of Stephen Curry's career. After winning four championships and a Defensive Player of the Year, Golden State did not want to trade Draymond but something had to give for a team with one of the highest payrolls in the NBA. Of course, nobody would have expected the Warriors to deal with one of their biggest rivals at the time. Just a year prior, the Warriors and Grizzlies met in a brutal second-round series, and things got downright personal between Draymond, Dillon Brooks, and the other Grizzlies players. Advertisement Whatever the Warriors saw in that series, it was enough to convince them that they'd be better off with Dillon Brooks, Tyus Jones, and Steven Adams over Draymond Green. While Brooks brings the defense and toughness that Green provides, he's not nearly the same kind of playmaker, and he doesn't have any built-up chemistry with Steph. The same could be said for Steven Adams. As much as his size and strength would help the Warriors' frontcourt, he's not nearly as versatile as Draymond, who can play and defend all five positions on the court. Today, with Brooks on the Rockets and Tyus Jones on the Suns, it's already too late for the Warriors to revisit that trade, but they're probably better off with Draymond anyway. While he continues to blur the lines with what's appropriate on the court, his game is undeniable with averages of 9.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game on 42.4% shooting. He has set the tone on defense, allowing the Warriors to finish 7th in the West with a 48-34 record. At 35 years old, Draymond is approaching the end of his storied career, but he firmly believes that the Warriors can win at least one more championship with him, Steph Curry, and Jimmy Butler leading the way. NBA commissioner Adam Silver on Luka Dončić trade: 'I understand why Dallas Mavericks fans are so upset'

NBA commissioner Adam Silver can see both sides of the Luka Dončić deal. Shortly after the trade was made, Silver defended the Dallas Mavericks, saying he believes the team did what it believed "was in the best interest of the organization." Silver has also heard and seen how fans reacted to the trade. In the days immediately following the move, Mavericks fans protested outside the team's arena and directed a lot of ire, to put it mildly, at Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison. Silver spoke about Mavericks fans during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Thursday, saying he understands why Dallas fans are upset. "I understand why Dallas Mavericks fans are so upset and I personally am a fan of Luka Doncic.. I want him to be great and I want the Dallas Mavericks to be great.. There's been so much interest in this trade and let's see how this turns out" ~ Adam Silver #PMSLive — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) April 17, 2025 Here are Silver's comments on the fans: "It's been a rough time since they made the trade, there's no question about it. A combination of Anthony Davis — my God — going down in the very first game he was playing for the Mavericks. Kyrie [Irving], then, with the season-ending injury. You know, I'm proud of that team. Obviously, they are still playing hard. They still have a chance to play into the playoffs tomorrow night. "I get the fan's passion. I understand, again, why Dallas Mavericks fans are so upset. I, personally, am a fan of Luka Dončić. I think he's a great young man. Let's see how this turns out. I want him to be great. I want the Dallas Mavericks to be great. "I've been in the league for a long time. It's been remarkable, I think, how much interest there's been in this trade." Silver also addressed theories that new Mavericks owner Miriam Adelson made the trade in an effort to eventually move the team. "The only place where I feel defensive on behalf of the Dallas Mavericks and new ownership there that there were some suggestions early on that the trade wasn't done for basketball reasons. That, somehow, the new owner didn't want to pay a maximum salary or was focused on ... real-estate development or something else. The only thing I can say, and I feel very confident about this knowing Patrick Dumont, who is the governor of the team, and the people involved, they believed that they were making the best trade on behalf of the Dallas Mavericks. Whether that turns out to be true, again, only time will tell. I've known Nico for a long time, Nico Harrison. He was a longtime executive at Nike before he was at the Dallas Mavericks. Again, whether he made the right trade, he's a really decent person. I know he's trying to do the best he can to run that franchise." Silver later reiterated the Mavericks aren't moving and are looking to build a new arena in Dallas. "The Dallas Mavericks aren't going anywhere and that team is staying in Dallas.. They're looking at building a new arena in Dallas" Adam Silver #PMSLive — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) April 17, 2025 The Adelson and Dumont families were asked about relocation shortly after the team traded Dončić. In a statement, the families said they were "committed to investing and building in Dallas/Fort Worth." Adelson and her family are majority shareholders in Las Vegas Sands resorts, fueling speculation she could move the Mavericks to Las Vegas. Given the players and teams — namely the Los Angeles Lakers — involved in the trade, some wondered whether Silver could have vetoed the deal if he felt it wasn't in the best interest of the game. A similar thing happened in 2011, when then-NBA commissioner David Stern vetoed a trade that would have sent Chris Paul to the Lakers. McAfee brought up that move during Silver's interview Thursday. Silver explained the commissioner does not have the power to veto a trade. He then talked through the Paul trade, saying that was a unique situation because the NBA owned the New Orleans Hornets at the time. Stern felt the Hornets — who were trading Paul — were better off keeping the superstar, so he, as the team's acting owner, vetoed the deal. Paul was eventually traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. As Silver stated multiple times in the interview, time will tell whether the Mavericks can come out ahead after shipping out Dončić. But given Donćić's superstar status and everything he meant to the franchise, Silver completely understands why fans were — and still are — angry about the move.
