Pete Davidson doesn't mince words about ‘SNL 50' star-studded audience: ‘Terrible'
Tough crowd. Pete Davidson revealed that the star-studded audience during the 'Saturday Night Live' 50th anniversary special was, well, 'terrible.' On Wednesday's episode of 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' Davidson, 31, said, 'It's a terrible audience. It's just famous people, and famous people only like themselves.' 9 Pete Davidson during an interview with host Seth Meyers on August 6, 2025. 'SNL50: The Anniversary' aired on Feb. 16, and commemorated a landmark half-century of the iconic New York sketch comedy show with a medley of musical performances and sketches from current and past stars – including Davidson, Andy Samberg, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, Kate McKinnon, and Will Ferrell. As Davidson pointed out, the audience was mostly made up of stars, including Robert De Niro, Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Jon Hamm, Alec Baldwin, Drew Barrymore, David Letterman, and Steve Martin. The house was so packed that the production designer told The Post they had to add 200 extra chairs to accommodate all the guests. 9 Pete Davidson during 'SNL 50.' Virginia Sherwood/NBC Jack Nicholson, 88, was also on hand to introduce an Adam Sandler segment — even though he's been spotted in public less frequently in recent years. Davidson, who revealed in July that he's expecting his first child with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, admitted not all of the guests were bad though. 'Meryl [Streep] rules,' he said of the 76-year-old Oscar winner. 'I get to my seat and I just look and I'm like, 'This can't be right.' And it was Meryl Streep and I just sat down and I was like, 'I'm so sorry that I'm sitting next to you. You're the best.' And she was very nice.' During the special, Davidson appeared in a pre-taped sketch as his Chad character, along with Laraine Newman, 73, who was in the original cast when the show launched in 1975. 9 Laraine Newman and Pete Davidson in a sketch in 'SNL 50.' Theo Wargo/NBC Fellow original cast member Dan Aykroyd, 73, recently said he skipped the special because he wanted to watch it from home. The most 'emotional' moment for him was Newman's sketch with Davidson, which he called, 'beautiful.' 'It's my one character that I got to do. In eight years of 'SNL,' I had one character,' Davidson said. 'But it's not a very flattering character. Everyone was so excited to see Laraine, and then I just have my shirt off.'

Dan Aykroyd finally reveals why he skipped the ‘SNL 50' special
Live from his living room…. Original 'Saturday Night Live' cast member Dan Aykroyd is finally revealing why he skipped the big 'SNL50' special in February. The three-hour event celebrated a landmark 50 years of the iconic NBC sketch comedy show. Many former cast members were in attendance, including Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Eddie Murphy, and Amy Poehler. Past hosts such as Jack Nicholson, 87, also attended, even though Nicholson has been spotted in public less frequently in recent years. 'I wanted to be at home and I wanted to watch the show beginning to end,' Aykroyd, 73, told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Thursday. 9 Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman in a 'The Coneheads' sketch on 'SNL' in the '70s. ©NBC/Courtesy Everett Collection 9 Dan Aykroyd attends a panel for 'The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake' during Comic-Con International on in San Diego on July 24, 2025. I wanted to see it live,' the 'Ghostbusters' star continued. 'I'm a fan of the show today, and I watch it all the time. I love these new players; I think they're just great. I just wanted to see and live nostalgically with my family in my own home, eating my own popcorn.' Aykroyd was in the cast when 'SNL' first premiered in 1975, along with John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, and Laraine Newman. The latter two were at the 'SNL 50' event. Newman, 73, did a sketch with Pete Davidson where she reminisced about her time on the show. When asked what part of the show made him most emotional, Aykroyd said, 'Laraine's piece definitely. That was beautiful. That was wonderful.' In November, Aykroyd previously weighed in on the rumors that 'SNL' boss Lorne Michaels, 80, may retire. 9 Paul Shaffer, Scarlett Johansson, Alex Moffat, Emil Wakim, Chloe Fineman, James Austin John, Paul Rudd, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Devon Walker, Taran Killem, Ana Gasteyer, John Mulaney, Kristen Wiig, Kenan Thompson, Pete Davidson, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon as Rudy Giuliani, Sarah Sherman as Michael Bloomberg, Will Forte, Jason Sudeikis, David Spade, Adam Driver, Kyle Mooney, Cecily Strong, Beck Bennett, and Nick Jonas on February 16, 2025. He's got the greatest gig in New York City. He has influence and power,' he exclusively told The Post. 'And he works in a job that keeps him laughing every day. So why would he want to leave that?' Michaels has shepherded 'Saturday Night Live' for 50 years, since the inaugural 1975 season that included Aykroyd. Although Michaels hasn't announced retirement plans, he told Gayle King on 'CBS Mornings' in 2021 that he thinks he's 'committed to doing the show until its 50th anniversary, which is in three years. 'I'd like to see that through, and I have a feeling that would be a really good time to leave,' he said at the time. Aykroyd said that in theory, there are other people who might be able to helm the show 'but it's not Lorne, and he's not leaving. He loves it. He's the only one who can do it, really… it's his life.' 9 Leslie Jones as Shanice, Tracy Morgan as Darius, Eddie Murphy as Tracy during the 'SNL 50' special. In the film, Dylan O'Brien ('Teen Wolf') plays Aykroyd. 'I thought it was like a suspense thriller, and beautifully executed by the cast,' he told The Post. 'I think it's a masterpiece, honestly. I think it could be up for Best Picture [at the Oscars].' The movie earned one Golden Globe nomination, but no Oscar noms. 'As I was there that night, the depictions of some of the characters were right on,' Aykroyd added. 'And, the tension of whether we were going to make it to air or not is expertly depicted. I liked it a lot.'

Hickenlooper says votes for Trump nominees ‘reduced the damage' for Colorado
Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) said he believes he's 'reduced the damage' for his constituents by voting to support 10 of President Trump's Cabinet picks to open up 'direct lines' into executive offices. The Colorado lawmaker said sometimes a vote against a nominee can 'piss people off.' 'You know, the person being nominated, I'm sure they understand it, but at a certain point it irritates them, I'm sure. So, we'll see,' Hickenlooper said during a Tuesday evening appearance on NBC 9's 'Next with Kyle Clark.' 'My hope and my gut is that we will definitely get benefits from it. And whatever bad things happen to us, without those relationships, I think the bad things would have been, will turn out to have been much worse,' he added. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is the only Democrat to vote 'yes' for more Trump nominees than Hickenlooper. Other Democrats have staunchly opposed the president's policies and announced investigations into agency cuts and closures. Fetterman represents a state won by Trump in last year's presidential election. Former Vice President Kamala Harris won Colorado. Hickenlooper, 73, announced last August that he plans to run for a final term in office in 2026. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Eight acts will battle it out on Saturday's show in a bid to secure a place in the final and win a cash prize of £250,000, plus a spot on the bill of the Royal Variety Performance. The line up includes two magicians, three singers, a rock band, two dance and variety acts and a daredevil performer. These acts will make up the first of five live semi-final rounds that will take place in the coming weeks. But there is one terrifying performer who some viewers will not be happy to see again. Auzzy Blood caused a controversy after "kids we left screaming and throwing up" after his "morbid and sickening" act. Appearing on stage in gothic make-up, the performer held up giant corkscrews to the audience before carrying out his gory stunt. Feeding the corkscrews through his nose and out his mouth, Auzzy Blood left the studio audience squealing and viewers at home complaining. BGT was hit by 680 complaints after his dangerous act. While another performer, who has landed a spot in the semi-final, was Akira Ohashi's nude act, who shocked viewers when he stripped off on stage. 'How's he doing that-' asks BGT host Ant McPartlin as magician leaves judges stunned with mesmerising audition But furious viewers took to the regulator with 90 complainants were about his nudity during the routine. Many viewers took to social media to slam Akira and Auzzy Blood's routine. "My daughters nearly throwing up and I just couldn't look at all. #bgt no," one parent fumed. Another wrote: "I've sent an Ofcom complaint, my six-year-old was traumatised poor thing. It's not even 9pm." A third person then said at the time: "That is an absolute NO for me. "I personally believe the fact you came onto a show like this and stuck hooks through your nose is morally repugnant and totally out of keeping with a family show and a potential Royal Variety act. NO." Meanwhile, Jurassic rockers Heavysaurus have also landed a spot in the semi-final. They gave the judges a show to remember as they headbanged their way through classic hits from rock gods, Queen and Bon Jovi. Magician Eden Choi will also be back after he seamlessly impressed the judges and viewers with his card tricks. The judges looked visibly amazed throughout his first audition and rose to their feet as Eden took a bow. While eight-year-old Teddy Magic will also be back with more telepathic pranks and card tricks. He received a standing ovation from the judges and audience when he wowed when he made champagne bottle pop without touching it. Alesha Dixon's Golden Buzzer act Linda Mudzenda impressed with her showstopping performance. The 21-year-old wowed with her smooth rendition of Lauren Daigle's You Say. KSI said: "That was so touching, man, seeing how beautifully you sang. I could feel the nerves as you came to the mic and then you blessed this whole room with your voice." Alesha then teased: "About 15 minutes ago, KSI said to me: 'What is it gonna take for you to press your golden buzzer?'" Alesha then slammed the buzzer, leaving an emotional Linda in tears. She's not the only singer and Golden Buzzer act to make it through to the first semi-finals. Bingo caller Vinnie McKee, 29, landed Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer with a tender version of The Proclaimers' classic hit I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). Completing the line-up is The Blackouts, who give the judges an experience to remember as they plunged Blackpool's Winter Gardens into darkness and perform a spectacular light show. 9 Eden Choi wowed the judges with his magic tricks Credit: ITV 9 The Blackouts put on a showstopping LED performance Credit: ITV 9 Heavysaurus have also landed a spot in the semi-final Credit: ITV
