Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo?

Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo? With the Celtics currently a second apron ball club staring down the largest payroll and tax bill in the history of the NBA, a trade for a player making as much as Giannis does makes very little sense at first glance. But what if the deal involved multiple teams, and also sent out other players to help Boston get cheaper as well? Would such a deal need to include one of star forwards Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown? Such scenarios quickly get very complex from a cap rules point of view, but it would not be impossible to get the Bucks star on the Celtics roster. The question is more about whether it would make sense. Advertisement The folks behind the "NBC Sports Boston" YouTube channel put together a clip with Chris Forsberg and Trenni Casey on "Arbella Early Edition" to talk it all over. Check it out below! Examining Drake Maye's demeanor and work ethic at OTAs

Examining Drake Maye's demeanor and work ethic at OTAs originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston Drake Maye has experienced some growing pains through his first few OTA practices as the New England Patriots' second-year quarterback. Advertisement In the Patriots' first OTA open to the media, Maye looked out of sorts as he threw four interceptions. He was better in Wednesday's practice, but it still was an uneven day for New England's offense. NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry was at Gillette Stadium for both OTA sessions. On a new mailbag edition of the Next Pats Podcast, Perry was asked how the 22-year-old signal-caller has carried himself amidst his struggles. 🔊 Next Pats: Taking you INSIDE Patriots OTAs – How does Drake Maye look? | Listen & Subscribe | Watch on YouTube 'I'm just curious as to Drake's demeanor and work ethic. Is he putting in the extra hours after practice with any other receivers? How is his body language out there? Is the new system and rough start to training camp rattling his confidence any?' Advertisement 'His body language and his demeanor have been fine,' Perry answered. 'You're not seeing what we saw — I think it's important to point out this kind of example — what we saw from Mac Jones. Mac Jones, he was nicknamed McEnroe for a reason by Nick Saban at Alabama, and he wore his heart on his sleeve out there on the field, both good and bad. He'd be dancing one minute, the next, he'd be firing off his chinstrap and having to blow off some steam, pacing back and forth with our buddy Brian Hoyer because he didn't like what was going on out there on the field. So, to me, (Maye was) more even-keeled, and the demeanor was OK. … 'In terms of his work ethic, that, to me, is not a question. You do see him staying after practice and throwing to guys after practice. A lot of the young receivers are out there late, (Efton) Chism and Kyle Williams, the two OTAs we've been to. I think this is something worth noting. Doesn't mean either of them are going to be All-Pros this coming year, but I think it's good. … 'So, Drake Maye's doing all those things and his body language, I think, is fine. It has been a rough start through these two practices that we've seen for Maye. It does, to me, seem like he is clearly still thinking his way through this offense, as opposed to just knowing it so cold that he is now just reacting.' You can hear everything Perry had to say about Maye by listening to the new episode of the Next Pats Podcast, or watching the YouTube video below. Red Sox stock up, stock down: Kristian Campbell hits the rookie wall

Red Sox stock up, stock down: Kristian Campbell hits the rookie wall originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston Not much has gone right for the Boston Red Sox since the calendar flipped to May. They've gone 10-16 this month to fall to 27-31, 9.5 games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East. Advertisement The blame pie can be sliced several ways. The offense has been inconsistent, the rotation has struggled behind ace Garrett Crochet, and the team is 6-15 in one-run games. Several key players are in the middle of brutal month-long slumps. So, who needs to turn it around for the Red Sox to get back above .500? Which players have been bright spots during the disappointing stretch? Here's our updated 'Stock Up, Stock Down' with June looming. Stock Up Carlos Narvaez, C The Red Sox acquired Narvaez in an under-the-radar offseason trade with the New York Yankees. The assumption was that he would serve as Connor Wong's backup throughout the 2025 season, but he already has a firm grip on the starting catcher role amid a shockingly impressive start to the campaign. Advertisement In addition to being one of the game's best defensive backstops, Narvaez has been one of Boston's most consistent hitters. The 26-year-old rookie entered Thursday slashing .289/.357/.465 with five homers and 17 RBI. He ranks fourth on the team with a 1.8 fWAR, trailing only Alex Bregman, Garrett Crochet, and Rafael Devers. Rafael Devers, DH Devers refusing to play first base wasn't the best look, but it's easy to look past when he's in the midst of a career year at the plate. The three-time All-Star is hitting .287/.409/.523 with 12 homers and an American League-leading 50 RBI. He recorded the first walk-off homer of his career on May 17 against Atlanta and a grand slam on May 23 against Baltimore. Advertisement Since starting the season 0-for-19 with 15 strikeouts, Devers has hit .315 with a 1.005 OPS. The way Devers has raked as the DH, it's easy to see why the Red Sox have refrained from asking him to move back to third base in the wake of Bregman's injury. Jarren Duran, OF Duran is heating up after a subpar start to the season. The 2024 All-Star Game MVP has hit .377 with two homers and 11 RBI in 13 games since May 16. He leads the majors with six triples. Duran took his game to another level in June of last year and finished eighth in AL MVP voting. While it's unfair to expect him to duplicate that success, it's encouraging that he appears to be on the same trajectory as his All-Star season. Advertisement Brennan Bernardino, RHP Bernardino has been the Red Sox bullpen's unsung hero. The 33-year-old righty is tied for the MLB lead with 14 appearances in May. In those appearances, he has amassed an 0.75 ERA and 0.91 WHIP over 12 innings. He has been a bright spot throughout Boston's abysmal stretch. Stock Down Kristian Campbell, 2B/OF It's been all downhill for Campbell since being named the American League Rookie of the Month for March/April. The 22-year-old is hitting .120 with a .335 OPS through 20 games in May, and he was partly responsible for Boston's demise in Wednesday's series finale vs. Milwaukee with a brutal defensive miscue in the 10th inning: Credit where it's due: Campbell has willingly taken practice reps at first base despite never playing the position in his professional career. But at this stage, it's fair to wonder whether the best course of action is to let him figure things out at Triple-A rather than throw him into the fire at a new position during a brutal slump. Advertisement Campbell ascended quickly through the minor-league ranks, cracking Boston's Opening Day roster one year after playing at High-A. The raw talent is undeniable, but he hasn't looked like a big-league player for the last month. Trevor Story, SS Two weeks ago, we stated that the Red Sox couldn't go on much longer with this version of Trevor Story. It hasn't gotten any better for the veteran shortstop, so it's time for the club to seriously consider cutting ties. Story is slashing .218/.263/.318 in 54 games this season. Since May 6, he's hitting .132 (10-for-76) with a .369 OPS. His fielding hasn't made up for those offensive struggles as he's in the midst of arguably the worst defensive season of his career. Advertisement Now that top prospect Marcelo Mayer is in the mix, Story's days in Boston should be numbered. We've reached the tipping point in his disappointing Red Sox tenure. Connor Wong, C Wong has never shined behind the plate, but he had some solid offensive stretches as the Red Sox' starting catcher in 2024. That has not been the case this season. The 29-year-old, who will forever be remembered as one of the key pieces in the infamous Mookie Betts trade, is hitting .157 with no homers and a .402 OPS in 22 games. It didn't take long for him to lose the starting catching gig to Narvaez. While the Red Sox aren't regretting their offseason deal for Garrett Crochet, they may be kicking themselves for parting ways with top catching prospect Kyle Teel. It's been a disastrous year for Wong, even by a backup's standards. Advertisement Starting pitchers not named Garrett Crochet Crochet has lived up to his ace expectations, but who's the No. 2 in Boston's rotation? Tanner Houck was placed on the injured list after a nightmare start to the season, Walker Buehler has been up-and-down and also spent time on the IL, Brayan Bello hasn't looked the part, and Lucas Giolito isn't anything close to his 2021 self. Hunter Dobbins looked sharp to start his rookie campaign but has come crashing back down to earth over his last few apperances. The Red Sox rotation was expected to take a significant step forward in 2025. Instead, it has remained one of the club's biggest weaknesses.

First impressions of Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson on practice field

First impressions of Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson on practice field If first impressions are worth anything, then rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson will be a player to keep an eye on during the offseason practices. His speed on the field immediately jumps out, and local reporters are quickly taking notice of his home run potential coming out of the offensive backfield. NBC Sports Boston's Phil A. Perry talked about his impressions of the Ohio State product in real time when attending an open practice for organized team activities. 'TreVeyon Henderson looks really quick, saw him catch a very short sort of swing pass that I thought was out of reach for him, but was able to extend and bring it in," Perry said on The Next Pats Podcast. "Looks very quick with the ball in his hands. They used him a few times on screens, and he's making people miss in small spaces.' Henderson has the skill set and athleticism to be one of the top rookie running backs in the league. He can run, catch and pass protect at an elite level. That level of talent should put him in the mix right away for the Patriots on offense. A projected running back room of Henderson, Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson is one of the best the Patriots have had in years. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

Bill Belichick wasn't himself in final Patriots season: ‘Resting on his laurels'

Bill Belichick didn't have the same level of intensity and attention to detail in the tail end of his 24 seasons as head coach of the Patriots, according to NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran. During his weekly appearance on the 'Jones and Keefe' show Tuesday on WEEI 93.7 FM, Curran explained that Belichick had a nonchalant attitude and was 'kind of resting on his laurels' and depending on his legendary reputation. 'I don't think it had the same intensity of attention that Bill Belichick from 2000 through 2019 had, no,' Curran said asked by co-host Adam Jones if Belichick was distracted in the 2023 season due to his personal life, which includes his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson. Advertisement 'So the level of attention to detail probably was not the same. So distracted to you and me? I mean, I'm a distracted guy, I don't know if it's that level. But no, his level of intensity was not the same. 5 Patriots head coach Bill Belichick walks off the field after the game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on November 26, 2023. USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Con 'I think that that was borne out in the drafting, the free agent signings, the coaching and succession plans, the easy outs in terms of hiring — whether it be offensive coordinator or scouting or whatever. I think Bill very much got to a point where, when he articulated that, 'Why should fans have an expectation of success this year?' posed to him by [ESPN NFL reporter] Mike Reiss at the 2023 owners meetings. And Bill said, 'The last 25 years.' There was very much a kind of resting on his laurels and his reputation and, 'What's the worst that could happen here? I'm Bill Belichick.'' That would be a 4-13 season that ended with the franchise quickly splitting ways with the head coach. Advertisement Curran, a Patriots insider since the late 1990s, was referring to when Reiss asked Belichick at the 2023 NFL Owners meetings if he had a message to Patriots fans heading into that season. 5 Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson attend the 14th Annual NFL Honors at Saenger Theatre on February 6, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Advertisement When asked by Reiss why should fans be optimistic, Belichick replied, 'The last 25 years.' Belichick, 73, and the Patriots won six Super Bowls in 24 seasons together before they parted ways. Jones posed the question about Belichick being distracted that year due to Pablo Torre's recent report that Belichick was sneaking around with Hudson at the time — including the now infamous shirtless Ring surveillance camera video of Belichick leaving an Airbnb that was booked by Hudson. 5 Ring doorbell footage of Bill Belichick leaving an Airbnb rented by his girlfriend Jordon Hudson in 2023. @BabzOnTheMic / X Advertisement 'The latest — and I'm curious your thoughts on this — really does characterize Bill as distracted at the tail end of his tenure in New England,' Jones said. 'Red pants at training camp. Hotel rooms leading up to games. Never mind [appearing] on Ring cam videos, etc, etc. Do you think Bill was distracted in 2023?' Curran went on to agree with WEEI's Rich Keefe, who said 'I think it's going to be one-and-done at North Carolina' for Belichick — while also mentioning the coach's June 1 buyout date in his five-year deal with UNC. 'I know some are speculating whether he even makes it to the season,' Keefe said. 'There's like a buyout coming up on June 1, where there's a potential there. I think he coaches this season, but I think it's one-and-done.' 5 Head coach Bill Belichick of the North Carolina Tar Heels coaches at Kenan Stadium on April 12, 2025 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Getty Images 'I would tend to agree with you,' Curran said. 'But it would be a percentage-type thing with the likelihood. I mean, are they going to be good? I just don't think they're going to — and what do I know about ACC friggin' football — but I just don't think that they're going to be, you know, landmark [improved], because they're totally different kinds of players that you're dealing with. 'I mean, kids who [were] just getting off a bus last year, some of them, to go to school. They're not adults. So how is that going to go? I would imagine it probably is more likely one-and-done than a five year tenure.' Belichick signed a five-year deal — with a $10 million per year in base salary that is only guaranteed for the first three years — to become the UNC head football coach in December. The contract also has a $10 million buyout that drops to $1 million in June. Advertisement 5 Jordon Hudson joined Bill Belichick on the field during a spring game for UNC football. The Carolina Cockroach/TikTok Belichick will be under a microscope in his first year coaching at the college level, especially after the media fallout from his disastrous 'CBS Sunday Mornings' interview — which aired on April 27 and showed Hudson interrupting a question about how the couple met. 'I didn't come here to leave,' the coach said during his introductory press conference at Chapel Hill on Dec. 12, 2024, which Hudson attended. Torre's investigation claims Hudson, a former NCAA champion cheerleader at Bridgewater State University, is trying to control Belichick's career and further her own.
