Bo Knows Commitment! No. 1 wrestling recruit Bo Bassett heading to Iowa

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) – Bo Bassett, the No. 1 wrestling recruit in the Class of 2026, officially knows where he is going to wrestle in college. On Tuesday night, the Bishop McCort junior committed to Iowa over Penn State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech. Bassett has been one of the most highly sought after prospects ever in the sport. The 2024 PIAA Champion has racked up a 110-0 high school record, plenty of success in international competitions and a social media following that totals more than 206,000 followers on three different platforms. Bassett also trains at Young Guns Wrestling Club, which is run under two-time Iowa All-American Jody Strittmatter. Bassett now follows the footsteps of great Pennsylvania wrestlers that have been with the club to wrestle for the Hawkeyes such as Punxsutawney's Kaleb Young, Central Cambria's Max Murin and Bassett's childhood idol Spencer Lee. Owen McMullen, Bassett's current teammate at both Bishop McCort and Young Guns, also committed to the Hawkeyes back in October. With his huge social media following and skill on the mat, Bassett can possibly influence other top recruits to head to Iowa City. If so, that could play a huge role in Iowa's turnaround, which last won a team title in 2021. Previously, the Hawkeyes have shown the capability of being a dynasty in the sport, winning 24 total NCAA Team Championships since 1975. If they challenge Penn State's current dynasty in the near future, odds are that it would be partly due to the decision made on Tuesday night. It may seem like lofty expectations, but they are ones that Bassett, who wants to be the greatest of all time, is hoping to fulfill. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
