Bo Knows Commitment! No. 1 wrestling recruit Bo Bassett heading to Iowa
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) – Bo Bassett, the No. 1 wrestling recruit in the Class of 2026, officially knows where he is going to wrestle in college. On Tuesday night, the Bishop McCort junior committed to Iowa over Penn State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech.
Bassett has been one of the most highly sought after prospects ever in the sport. The 2024 PIAA Champion has racked up a 110-0 high school record, plenty of success in international competitions and a social media following that totals more than 206,000 followers on three different platforms.
Bassett also trains at Young Guns Wrestling Club, which is run under two-time Iowa All-American Jody Strittmatter.
Bassett now follows the footsteps of great Pennsylvania wrestlers that have been with the club to wrestle for the Hawkeyes such as Punxsutawney's Kaleb Young, Central Cambria's Max Murin and Bassett's childhood idol Spencer Lee.
Owen McMullen, Bassett's current teammate at both Bishop McCort and Young Guns, also committed to the Hawkeyes back in October.
With his huge social media following and skill on the mat, Bassett can possibly influence other top recruits to head to Iowa City. If so, that could play a huge role in Iowa's turnaround, which last won a team title in 2021.
Previously, the Hawkeyes have shown the capability of being a dynasty in the sport, winning 24 total NCAA Team Championships since 1975. If they challenge Penn State's current dynasty in the near future, odds are that it would be partly due to the decision made on Tuesday night.
It may seem like lofty expectations, but they are ones that Bassett, who wants to be the greatest of all time, is hoping to fulfill.

Nation's No. 1 Recruit Sends Clear Message to Former Tennessee Commit
Nation's No. 1 Recruit Sends Clear Message to Former Tennessee Commit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One of the biggest moves the Miami Hurricanes made this offseason was landing the Class of 2026 offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, who On3 Industry Rankings has as the No. 1 recruit in the nation. Advertisement Though it's clear head coach Mario Cristobal isn't looking to slow down, and on Friday, hosted several talented recruits, including defensive lineman Tyson Bacon, who was committed to the Tennessee Volunteers from Oct. 21, 2024, to April 23, 2025. After his official visit with the Hurricanes, Bacon posted a photo of himself in a Hurricanes uniform on social media, captioning it "305?", which is the area code for Coral Gables. The post went on to catch the attention of Cantwell, who reposted it, saying, "Make the move…" Of course, it's not a huge surprise to see Cantwell trying his hand to help land the former Tennessee commit, as On3 Industry Rankings has Bacon as a three-star recruit, the No. 46 defensive lineman and the No. 442 player in the nation. Advertisement Last season, he put up solid numbers for Hoover High School, accumulating 33 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, 11 hurries and two pass deflections in 13 games played. Miami isn't the only team competing for his commitment either, as Bacon has also had official visits with Georgia (May 17), Florida (May 30), with more scheduled with Michigan (June 13), Alabama (June 17) and Tennessee (June 20). Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario CristobalSam Navarro-Imagn Images If Cantwell's recruiting skills do pay off, though, and Miami lands Bacon, he would be a big addition to their 2026 recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 2 in the ACC and No. 8 in the nation, per On3. Iowa hires former NFL GM Scott Pioli as consultant following House settlement
Iowa's athletics department has hired former Kansas City Chiefs general manager and New England Patriots executive Scott Pioli as a consultant to help the football program transition into a new financial model. The move comes as universities prepare to pay athletes directly in response to the landmark House settlement approved last week. Advertisement Pioli, 60, worked alongside Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz with the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens from 1992-96, and the two have fostered a close relationship over the last three decades. Pioli has attended Iowa football practices and was retained last fall in preparation for the athletic department sharing revenue with Iowa athletes. Pioli will continue to work with all of Iowa's programs, but his expertise lies with football. At New England, Pioli was the Patriots' vice president of player personnel when the team won three Super Bowls and was named the Pro Football Writers Association's executive of the year three times. Pioli was the Chiefs' general manager from 2009-12, and then served as Atlanta Falcons assistant general manager from 2014-19. He has since worked as an NFL analyst for SiriusXM, NBC Sports and NFL Network. Iowa will share the maximum allowable amount of money under the House settlement, which is $20.5 million, with as much as 75 percent going toward the football program. In addition to bringing on Pioli, Iowa has established a cap management structure that includes general managers for each sport. Marcus Wilson will serve as executive senior associate athletics director for cap management and administration, while Scott Brickman, the department's general manager for NIL and strategy through a partnership with Altius Sports Partners, will review and approve all agreements. Financial parameters related to the $2.8 billion House settlement, which was approved on Friday night by Judge Claudia Wilken, go into effect on July 1.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin praising former Iowa RB Kaleb Johnson early in career
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin praising former Iowa RB Kaleb Johnson early in career The next former Iowa Hawkeyes talent who could be in a starting role in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is former running back Kaleb Johnson. The former All-American at Iowa and Big Ten Running Back of the Year rewrote part of Iowa's history books with his tremendous 2024 season in Iowa City and is continuing to don the black and gold with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Drafted No. 83 overall in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft, Johnson joins a situation that could see him earn a lot of playing time and carries early in his career. His collegiate tape and early impressions are being felt in Pittsburgh, as Steelers long-time head coach Mike Tomlin is praising Kaleb Johnson early on in his career. "This is a high-volume, capable runner who was the center of his offense, a lot of NFL, Sunday-like runs, if you will. Meaning he did it from the home position or the pistol position into a lot of loaded boxes. It wasn't a lot of guesswork or Saturday-like holes on his tape, and that made the evaluation a fun one and the projection an easy one," Tomlin said about Johnson coming out of college. Kaleb Johnson brings size to the Steelers' running back room as he stands 6-foot-1 and has a 225-pound frame. Tomlin was asked about that factoring into their decision to draft him, but continued to praise his play above all else. "Less concerned about the measurables and really more concerned about the play style and the resume, and certainly he is a guy that's capable of high-volume carries," Tomlin continued. In a recent turn of events, Kaleb Johnson will now have the opportunity to play alongside future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is joining the Steelers. Kaleb Johnson and Aaron Rodgers are acquainted as well, as the two spent time working out together earlier this offseason. His presence in the backfield and command of the offense could make life easier for Johnson in the run game as well as up his usage in the passing game.
