Oklahoma baseball eliminates Nebraska from NCAA Tournament
Oklahoma tied a season high with 18 hits and stayed alive in the NCAA Tournament during the early afternoon hours Sunday, rolling Nebraska, 17-1, and eliminating the Cornhuskers. OU will get a couple hours rest before playing another elimination game Sunday night against the No. 5 national seed, North Carolina. The Tar Heels beat Oklahoma on Saturday night, setting up the Sooners' doubleheader. If the Chapel Hill Regional hosts win that game, they advance to the Super Regionals. If the Tar Heels lose, OU and UNC will meet again Monday in a winner-take-all finale. Advertisement In Sunday's first game, Oklahoma put up crooked numbers on the scoreboard in four different innings. The Sooners struck for three runs in the first inning, six in the third, four in the sixth and two in the eighth. Each of Nebraska's first five pitchers allowed at least one run. Eight different OU hitters had at least two base knocks. Easton Carmichael and Sam Christiansen were most impressive. Carmichael finished 2 for 5 with a walk, two home runs, four RBI and three runs. Christiansen went 3 for 5 with a walk, two doubles, two RBI and three runs. On the other side, Oklahoma starter Cade Crossland pitched perhaps his best game of the season. The right-hander worked seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out nine. The lone run Crossland allowed was unearned. Oklahoma and North Carolina will meet in Sunday night's game at 5 p.m. CT. This article originally appeared on Sooners Wire: Oklahoma baseball beat Nebraska in Chapel Hill Regional in NCAA Tourney

South Carolina slugger Petry's return ‘questionable' following shoulder injury
USC head baseball coach Paul Mainieri said Monday that when his top slugger Ethan Petry returns from a shoulder injury suffered Saturday at Kentucky is 'questionable' and the coach added that they could 'end up playing the rest of the season without him ,' Mainieri added on his weekly radio interview on Columbia's 107.5 FM. Petry hurt his left shoulder when he crashed into the padding on the side wall in right field as he pursued a fly ball. Following a pop up in his next at bat, he grabbed his shoulder and exited the game. He leads the team with 10 homer runs and 34 RBI to go along with his .329 batting average. His long term loss would be a huge blow to a 25-win Gamecocks team that's 5-13 in the SEC and is attempting to put together a run in May to make the SEC tourney as well as build a resume for a potential NCAA Tourney at-large bid. Chattanooga wins N.I.T. title, the first for the Southern Conference as well
Indianapolis-(WSPA)-Garrison Keesler's jumper with 12 seconds remaining in overtime put Chattanooga ahead to stay Thursday night and the Mocs held on for an 85-84 victory over UC-Irvine to claim the program's, and the Southern Conference's, first N.I.T. crown. Jurian Dixon attempted to win it for UC-Irvine with one second remaining but he missed a lay-up attempt. Chattanooga, which was denied a potential SoCon tourney title and subsequent trip to the NCAA Tourney when it lost in the semi-finals to Furman, earns the first major national postseason tourney crown for both the school and conference. The Mocs (29-9) and Anteaters (32-7) went back-and-forth for most of the game after Chattanooga opened up an early 8-0 advantage. Trey Bonham's mid-court jumper to beat the halftime buzzer put Chattanooga up by one at the break, 38-37. The Anteaters built an eight-point lead early in the second half. Honor Huff's three free throws with 16 seconds remaining in regulation put the Mocs back in front at 76-74. Myles Che, who played at Chattanooga as a freshman last season, then hit the first two of his three free throws to tie the game for UC-Irvine. A missed lay-up and three-point attempt by Chattanooga's Collin Mulholland in the final five seconds prevented the Mocs from winning in regulation. Bonham matched Mulholland's 19 points to share the team lead while Keesler and Huff added 14 points each. It was the final game together as a backcourt for Bonham and Huff, who began their careers together in 2021 as VMI teammates under current Chattanooga head coach Dan Earl and resumed playing on the same team at Chattanooga last season.
