ENA Launches First Triage Verification for Emergency Nurses

Emergency Nursing Triage Education Program boosts nurses' confidence in triage decisions SCHAUMBURG, Ill., June 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — When lives are on the line, every triage decision in an emergency department matters. Studies show that accurate triage rates are alarmingly low, averaging 59 percent, which is an urgent issue impacting patient care. That gap in education and consistency can mean the difference between timely care and delayed outcomes. To help bridge that gap, ENA launched the Emergency Nursing Triage Education Program. ENTEP, the first and only triage verification program offers standardized education and evaluation process for ED nurses to be verified in triage. 'ENTEP is a truly comprehensive course for nurses who want to bolster their triage education,' said ENA President Ryan Oglesby, PhD, MHA, RN, CEN, CFRN, NEA-BC. 'Some of our pilot participants have said the class made triage feel effortless, they were more confident in identifying triage level and were able to hone their critical thinking skills around special populations such as geriatric, pediatric and pregnant patients.' ENTEP covers a variety of topics, chosen through research and based on five domains. The topics include triage concepts and clinical judgement, focused assessment and questioning for common ED presentations, special populations and considerations, supporting acuity with documentation, communication, triage scenarios, self-care and ESI. Upon completion of the one-and-a-half-day program, along with pre-course work and passing a written exam, participants will be eligible for 22 CE hours and a four-year verification. Baystate Medical Center earns fifth consecutive Magnet Recognition for nursing excellence

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Baystate Medical Center has once again earned Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This marks the fifth consecutive designation and placing it among an elite group of hospitals nationwide. The announcement highlights Baystate's two decades of sustained excellence in nursing, as it becomes one of fewer than one percent of hospitals across the country to achieve Magnet status five times in a row. The designation is considered the highest national honor for professional nursing practice and is recognized as the gold standard for nursing excellence. Chicopee small business recognized at Walmart showcase 'This recognition affirms what we already know to be true—our nurses are extraordinary,' said Joanne Miller, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive of Baystate Health. 'This fifth Magnet designation is a profound recognition of the extraordinary care, professionalism, and heart that our nurses bring to every patient, every day. It reflects 20 years of sustained nursing excellence and a deep-rooted culture of collaboration across our organization. I could not be prouder of the nursing team and every individual who supports their success.' Magnet designation is awarded based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes a review of patient outcomes, nursing leadership, professional development, and collaboration within healthcare teams. The ANCC cited Baystate for exemplary performance in these areas and praised its culture of innovation and continuous improvement. 'This honor is a reflection of our entire Baystate Medical Center family—all team members who work with and support our nurses,' said Ron Bryant, President & COO of Baystate Medical Center. 'It speaks to our collective commitment to excellence and the power of working together to care for our community. Congratulations to our nurses on this achievement!' Baystate first received a Magnet design in 2005 and has maintained its commitment to excellence in patient-centered care ever since. Hospital leaders attribute this sustained recognition to the dedication and teamwork among nurses and their interdisciplinary partners. Throughout its 20-year journey as a Magnet-recognized institution, Baystate has consistently prioritized professional development, shared decision-making, and resiliency, key principles of Magnet organizations. To receive the 2025 ANCC Well-Being Excellence credential, BayCare submitted a detailed application outlining the ways it currently supports team member well-being, including: 'I am truly encouraged to note the leadership of these pioneering organizations in obtaining this innovative credential. Workplace well-being is critical in improving the overall health of the nation's workforce,' said ANCC President Laura J. Wood, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN.
