Christophe Galtier named NEOM SC head coach ahead of historic Saudi Pro League debut

Saudi Gazette report NEOM — NEOM Sports Club have appointed French coach Christophe Galtier as their new manager ahead of the club's first-ever campaign in the Roshn Saudi League, marking a major step forward for the ambitious team from Saudi Arabia's northwest region. The announcement was made Saturday, with Galtier replacing Brazilian manager Pericles Chamusca, who led NEOM SC to promotion by winning the 2024-25 First Division League title. Galtier, 57, brings with him a distinguished résumé that includes title-winning stints in France's Ligue 1 and most recently a two-year spell in Qatar with Al Duhail. In a message posted on the club's official social media channels, Galtier said: 'I am really excited to be part of this big Saudi project. Happy to join one of the best leagues in the world. I cannot wait to write the story of NEOM Football Club.' Best known for guiding Lille to a sensational Ligue 1 title in the 2020-21 season — ahead of giants PSG — Galtier was also named Ligue 1 Manager of the Year on three occasions. His managerial journey began with an eight-year tenure at Saint-Étienne, where he transformed the club into consistent European contenders and won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2013. Following his time at Lille, he briefly managed OGC Nice before taking the helm at Paris Saint-Germain in 2022, where he led the capital club to a league title. He moved to Al Duhail in October 2023, coaching the Qatari side for two seasons. NEOM SC's bold move to bring in Galtier reflects the club's growing ambition as they prepare for their debut in the Saudi Pro League. The team has already made headlines this summer with several high-profile signings, including French striker Alexandre Lacazette, Ivorian midfielder Amadou Kone, and Saudi defender Faris Abdi. Backed by Saudi Arabia's giga-project NEOM, the club aims to become a competitive force both domestically and in the long term on the continental stage.

Ex-PSG manager Galtier joins NEOM SC revolution

NEOM Sports Club have confirmed former Lille and Paris Saint-Germain head coach Christophe Galtier as their new manager. The newly promoted Roshn Saudi League side, who will debut in the top flight in the 2025-26 season, announced the appointment on Saturday. Replacing Pericles Chamusca, Galtier joins the club following two years in charge of Qatar's Al Duhail. Advertisement Until then, the Frenchman had managed exclusively in his homeland, beginning with an eight-year stint with Saint-Etienne in which he took the club from the brink of relegation to establish them firmly in the top 10 of Ligue 1. Saint-Etienne became regulars in European football, too, while in 2013 they won the Coupe de la Ligue – their first major trophy in 32 years. Galtier was then installed as Lille manager in December 2017, where he guided the club into the UEFA Champions League in his first full season. In 2020-21, Lille clinched the Ligue 1 title for the first time in a decade, with Galtier later named the league's manager of the season for a third time. He resigned soon after the championship success to manage Nice before then replacing Mauricio Pochettino at PSG in July 2022. There, Galtier won another Ligue 1 trophy before making the switch to Al Duhail in October 2023. Advertisement At NEOM SC, Galtier will oversee the club's first appearance in the RSL after they topped last season's First Division League. The team have been busy preparing for the 2025-26 campaign: this week, they announced the signings of former Arsenal and Olympique Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazatte, Ivorian midfielder Amadou Kone and former Al Fayha defender Faris Abdi. In a message on NEOM SC's social media on Saturday, Galtier said: "I am really excited to be part of this big Saudi project. Happy to join one of the best leagues in the world. I cannot wait to write the story of NEOM Football Club."

Lacazette joins NEOM SC as Saudi Pro League newcomers boost attack with French star

Saudi Gazette report NEOM — Former France international Alexandre Lacazette has officially joined NEOM Sports Club, becoming the latest high-profile signing in the Roshn Saudi League as the newly promoted side prepares for its debut season in the top flight. The 34-year-old striker, Lyon's second all-time leading scorer, brings a wealth of experience from Ligue 1 and the English Premier League, where he starred for Arsenal between 2017 and 2022. During his time in England, Lacazette netted 54 goals in 158 league appearances and helped the Gunners lift the FA Cup in 2020. NEOM SC confirmed the move on Tuesday with a message on social media: 'From the cradle of heritage in Lyon to the frontier of the future at NEOM SC. Sharpshooter Alexandre Lacazette has arrived.' The ambitious club earned promotion to the 2025–26 Roshn Saudi League by winning the First Division League under Brazilian coach Pericles Chamusca, and are looking to build a competitive squad for the upcoming campaign. Lacazette joins a growing list of former Olympique Lyonnais stars now playing in the Kingdom, including Al Ittihad's Karim Benzema and Houssem Aouar, and new NEOM SC teammate Saïd Benrahma. His arrival follows Monday's announcement of Ivorian midfielder Amadou Koné from Reims, as the club continues strengthening its roster ahead of the new season.
