Hadley Asparagus Fest bumped to 2026 by weather, logistics
HADLEY — NEPM's Asparagus Festival was canceled this past Saturday because of weather, and organizers decided against moving the event to another day this year because of costs and logistics. The event — held on the Hadley Town Common — became too risky last week with heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning in the forecast, NEPM said in a statement on Monday. 'After careful consideration, we've made the difficult decision to forego a rain date this year and bring the NEPM Asparagus Festival back in 2026,' the news outfit said 'When we looked at the costs and logistics of rescheduling, it became clear that it would not be practical or responsible to proceed.' HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – The annual Asparagus Festival presented by New England Public Radio has been canceled for this year. Hadley is known as 'the asparagus capital of the world,' with many farmers producing the vegetable this spring. It has become a staple crop in Hadley due to its climate and soils and because it can be found everywhere at once, its nickname became 'Hadley grass.' 22News Storm Team Forecast Discussion The annual Asparagus Festival presented by New England Public Radio (NEPM) was scheduled for Saturday, June 7th, on the Hadley Town Common, was postponed due to weather conditions. On Monday, NEPM announced to cancel the event this year, citing the costs and logistics of rescheduling. The Asparagus Festival is set to take place the first weekend of June 2026, which includes live music, a farmers and makers market, a beers and spears tent featuring local beers, and all the asparagus you can eat. Fresh asparagus can be found at farm stands and shelves in the area.
