Hadley Asparagus Fest bumped to 2026 by weather, logistics
HADLEY — NEPM's Asparagus Festival was canceled this past Saturday because of weather, and organizers decided against moving the event to another day this year because of costs and logistics.
The event — held on the Hadley Town Common — became too risky last week with heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning in the forecast, NEPM said in a statement on Monday.
'After careful consideration, we've made the difficult decision to forego a rain date this year and bring the NEPM Asparagus Festival back in 2026,' the news outfit said 'When we looked at the costs and logistics of rescheduling, it became clear that it would not be practical or responsible to proceed.'

Another rainy Saturday in Mass., but how long could it last? Here's what forecasters say
Another weekend, another chance for rain as showers could make an appearance in Massachusetts on Saturday. Showers should start to develop after 12 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. These clouds come as the result of a low-pressure system off the mid-Atlantic coast. As rain showers materialize, there's uncertainty about how widespread any rain could be north of the Massachusetts Turnpike, forecasters said. It's anticipated that there could be less rain south of the Mass. Pike. Until Saturday afternoon, forecasters anticipate overall rainfall totals to likely be less than one-tenth of an inch. At this point in the day, drier air is expected to push through from the north to the south, pushing out any further rain chances for the day but with clouds expected to still be present in the skies above. Daytime temperatures on Saturday are expected to be around 15 degrees cooler than they are expected to be on Friday, forecasters said. If Friday sees temps in the mid- to high 70s, Saturday could see highs in the mid- to low 60s. Boston could see a high of 63 degrees, while Worcester should be one degree cooler, forecasters said. Springfield, Gloucester and Nantucket should reach 65 degrees. Conditions should remain dry through the rest of the weekend before a warming trend kicks off on Monday, where daytime highs could be in the 70s, forecasters said. Temperatures should continue to climb as a warm front arrives Wednesday, followed by 'more summer-like heat to Thursday and Friday with temps in the mid-80s...' and increasing humidity, forecasters wrote. On Wednesday, Worcester could see a high of 81, while Boston and Springfield should both reach 82, forecasters said. Temperatures should not get any higher, with the lowest high being 71 degrees on Nantucket. By the end of the week, another system from the Great Lakes could bring back the risk of thunderstorms, forecasters said. Wildfire smoke, high temps overtake Mass. ahead of 13th wet weekend
Hazy skies and high temperatures are on deck for Massachusetts on Thursday, just before — you guessed it — rain moves in this weekend. 'We're still right in the thick of that smoke coming down,' said National Weather Service forecaster Bryce Williams. While abundant sunshine is in the forecast statewide, hazy skies are expected to take over by 10 a.m. as the smoke moves in. The greatest concentration of smoke will be over Central and Eastern Massachusetts, Williams said, though the low-level haziness won't be as dense as previous days. The smoke is expected to clear out late afternoon. Air quality was at a 'moderate' level statewide on Thursday morning, according to data from the AirNow map. Temperatures will reach the 80s on Thursday. Boston is expected to reach highs of 86 degrees, while Worcester and Springfield will be in the low 80s. And while the daytime on Friday should still be 75 and sunny across the Bay State, cool and wet weather are on track for the weekend. This will mark the 13th consecutive wet weekend Massachusetts has seen this year — but it's not looking to be another washout. The widespread, scattered rain showers are expected to begin after midnight on Friday, Williams said. Though the rain should let up by 10 a.m. on Saturday, there could still be some lingering showers into the afternoon. But Williams said, 'The later in the day, the better chance for dry weather.' Temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 60s statewide on Saturday, and northern areas may not break above the 50s. There's a chance the showers could continue on Sunday, but they would be more concentrated to Western Massachusetts. The day is expected to be mostly dry with overcast skies. Temperatures will still be in the 60s, and Eastern Massachusetts may see some cooler temps.
