NIFT Alumni Design costumes for Bollywood Pan-India movie 'Devasasya'
Daman In a remarkable achievement for the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Daman campus, Sharadhi Sujendra, an alumna of the Master of Fashion Management batch 2023-25, has been selected as the Costume Designer for the upcoming Pan-India movie 'Devasasya'. This mythological and spiritually-driven cinematic journey, set to release in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam. 'Devasasya' is a rich blend of ancient lore, divine retribution, and human resilience, set in the mystical realm of Sirsi, Karnataka. The movie's visual storytelling through costumes plays a vital role in bringing authenticity and depth to the characters. Sharadhi, along with her Associate Costume Designer Rashmi Bagenal, has been working to craft costumes that match the time, emotional tone, and personal journey of the characters. The team has been supported by Producer Anantha Murthy, Music Director Hari Ajay, and Production Designer KGF Kiran, who have all contributed to bringing the visual world of Devasasya to life. This achievement highlights the talent and expertise of NIFT Daman's students and alumni in the field of fashion and costume design. Sharadhi's selection for this high-profile project shows NIFT's commitment to nurturing creative talent and providing opportunities for students to excel in their chosen fields. Supported by a team of 30–40 workers, Khanam's work reflects both traditional artistry and a strong spirit of empowerment. Beyond creating beautiful pieces, Khanam focuses on uplifting women by teaching jewellery-making skills and offering them a sustainable livelihood. Despite facing competition from cheaper, mass-produced imports, her intricate, handcrafted jewellery stands out for its authenticity and unique designs. The craft bazaar served as an important platform for Khanam to engage directly with customers who increasingly value the craftsmanship and story behind handmade jewellery. She noted a growing appreciation among buyers for the distinction between handcrafted and machine-made products.
