IIM graduate asks himself ‘What do I really want to do?', then leaves six-figure monthly salary for a creative career
In a time when career stability is often seen as the ultimate goal, one man's choice to abandon a high-paying job to chase his artistic dreams is capturing widespread attention. Anil Jangid, a former product manager at Amazon and an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, decided to leave behind a six-figure salary and a secure corporate role to pursue music. His story, shared by friend Shravan Tickoo in a widely shared LinkedIn post, is now resonating across social media platforms as a powerful example of personal courage and authenticity. From Corporate Stability to Artistic Passion Jangid's credentials followed a well-trodden path of professional success — a degree from NITK, an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, and a thriving career at Amazon. Yet, despite reaching what many would consider the peak of professional achievement, he chose to take a different route. According to Tickoo, who met Jangid a few years ago, he was a grounded, ambitious individual with a desire to do something meaningful beyond just career advancement. 'A set career — NITK, IIM Ahmedabad, 6-figure earning PM at Amazon — you know the drill,' Tickoo noted in his post. Tickoo recounted how they lost contact for some time, but then Jangid reached out with a surprising update. 'Around 2 months back, he pings me and sends me a picture of himself. Ripped like a supermodel. I asked him, 'Dude— you look awesome! What have you been doing?' He said — 'Bhai, last year I once again asked myself — what is it that I really want to do?'' Choosing to Sing, Not Just Dream This period of reflection led Jangid to write and record his own music. When he shared one of his songs with Tickoo, the response was immediate. 'I asked him, 'Did you record it as a hobby?' And Anil, being Anil, said — 'Nahi bhai, I'm trying to become a singer.'' The song, titled "#SunLoZara," was filled with raw emotion and authenticity that struck a chord with those who heard it. Jangid's story has inspired thousands online. 'An inspiring story, Shravan! Anil's courage to follow his passion is a reminder for all of us to embrace our true selves,' one user commented. Another added, 'Respect! Courage like this deserves loud applause.' Many praised the emotional depth of the song and the bravery it took to start over in an entirely new field. Tickoo ended his post with a line from Apple's iconic campaign: 'People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who actually do.'

Dist admin inks MoU with NITK to form civic think tank consortium
Mangaluru: In a move that signals a new era of participative governance and institutionally anchored innovation, the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district administration formally entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal, on collaboration aims to integrate the intellectual and technical capacities of academic institutions into the district's development strategy, setting the foundation for a long-term, structured partnership between governance and knowledge ecosystems. The MoU marks the first formal step towards establishing a consortium of local institutions as a civic think tank, supporting the district administration through research, design, and youth-led interventions, said deputy commissioner Mullai MoU aligns with the broader vision of the district administration to ideate and pilot innovative initiatives to effectively involve talented citizens in developing solutions with a positive societal impact. It stands as a symbolic representation of the administration's continued efforts to partner with universities, an approach already initiated through its flagship programme Solve4DK, which engaged students from five regional institutions. These students developed practical solutions addressing waste management, traffic systems and other civic challenges by working closely with the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) developed by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), he said."A dedicated platform will soon be launched to invite all regional institutions to contribute innovative solutions and products for challenges sourced from various departments. These initiatives will be supported and mentored, with a focus on nurturing them into pilot-ready implementations, and eventually, socially driven startups. Institutions benefit through impactful, applied research, while students gain the opportunity to work on real-world challenges, helping them acquire key competencies for a meaningful career," the DC partnership will operate a biannual engagement model, aligning academic calendars with the district's development priorities, said Prof B Ravi, director, NITK. "This collaboration leverages research and innovation to benefit Mangaluru. We look forward to working with MCC to create impactful solutions," he said that students will come out with solutions to various problems in solid waste management, traffic management, infrastructure, healthcare, and other civic issues by engaging themselves through the ZP CEO Anandh K, MCC commissioner Ravichandra Naik and MSCL MD Raju K were present.

Sea erosion control measures planned to be implemented in Ullal before monsoon
Mangaluru: The sea erosion control initiatives along Ullal's shoreline will be implemented in areas that face significant risks before the onset of the monsoon. Priority will be to construct sea walls in previously overlooked locations from earlier projects, especially near the dwellings of fishermen. Speaker and Mangaluru MLA UT Khader said that earlier works were taken up only after damages were reported during the monsoon. However, an action plan will be prepared to ensure that all precautionary measures are in place before the monsoon. "Various coastal protection measures have been implemented to combat sea erosion. Initially, boulders were positioned along the shoreline to counter the effects of turbulent waters. Within three years, these stones were submerged beneath the shore surface. Subsequently, a gabion box installation was undertaken for coastal protection, but its effectiveness proved short-lived. Despite recommendations from specialists advocating sandbags, geotextile, Switzerland technology, and alternative approaches, none of these interventions yielded lasting success," Khader said. He said the intensity of the sea waves and problems on the Ullal coast are different from those of other parts of the world. Sea waves in Ullal are very rough, and hence, the methods to protect the coast should be adopted accordingly. Fishermen on the Ullal coast have proper knowledge of the issue, and solutions also need to be taken after discussing with the fishing community of the locality, he noted. The state govt has already reserved Rs 200 crore to protect the coast from sea erosion. The govt has received a proposal amounting to Rs 70 crore for undertaking works in Someshwara, Battampady, and other locations within Ullal that have experienced significant destruction from coastal erosion. A report will be sought from the NITK while taking up the work, he said.
