Giants fan cancels season tickets over 'threatening legalese letter' from team
Ending any long-term commitment isn't an easy decision, unless you're a New York Giants season ticket holder, it it appears. A season subscriber to Giants season tickets recently found his account was canceled via what he deemed threatening correspondence after informing the team he was not going to renew. From NJ Advance Media: Kenneth Lang, a longtime season ticket holder, posted a letter on LinkedIn announcing that he was not renewing his plan for another year. Lang said he had several discussions with Giants sales staff to keep his tickets. After he stood firm in his decision, the team sent him a stern letter dated from June 2, telling him his season tickets were canceled. In the letter, the Giants stated that Lang was in 'default' of his season ticket holder agreement. 'We are available to discuss how we can keep you as part of the Giants Season Ticket family so that you continue to enjoy the access and benefits that only our season ticket members enjoy. We are disappointed that we were unable to resolve the default under the Season Ticket Agreement. Therefore, this letter serves as our NOTICE OF TERMINATION of the Season Ticket Agreement. We prefer not to take this step, and ask that you seriously consider our invitation to discuss your account for potential reinstatement ... please see the enclosed letter from Giants Stadium LLC terminating that agreement. The Giants reserve all rights under the Season Ticket Agreement and applicable law.' Not sure what the issue is here. The client wanted out of the contract -- of which renewal is optional -- and the team obliged. Perhaps it was the manner in which the club acted and the language used. 'All because I decided it wasn't worth my investment (time and money) to renew New York Football Giants season tickets,' Lang wrote, per 'I had several conversations with sales reps leading up to this. To send a threatening legalese letter to try one more time to get me to renew ... well Amy Matlins let's just say this didn't warm my heart.' 'I used to be able to justify the expense as a day with my kids,' Lang continued. 'Not anymore, between the abusive fans, the hours it takes to get in/out of MetLife and the prohibitive cost of refreshments. And that's not even talking about the product on the field. This may be a specific example, but if you're dissatisfied with a product or service, act on that.' All valid points. But, once again, he wanted out and the Giants obliged. Nothing to see here.

Dave Klein, who covered the first 54 Super Bowls, dies at 85
Dave Klein, one of only two sportswriters to attend the first 54 Super Bowls, died Wednesday, Steve Politi of NJ Advance Media reports. Klein was 85. Klein began his career at the Star-Ledger in 1961, following in the footsteps of his father, Willie, who was the longtime sports editor at the time. His brother, Moss, joined the staff in 1972 and became the Yankees beat writer four years later. For all the big events Klein covered, he was most known for his coverage of the Giants. 'We are saddened to hear of Dave's passing,' the Giants said in a statement. 'He devoted much of his professional life to covering our organization and keeping our fans informed. Our thoughts are with Dave's family, friends and readers.' Klein was one of only 338 media members credentialed for Super Bowl I on Jan. 15, 1967, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The league honored Klein, longtime Star-Ledger columnist Jerry Izenberg and Detroit News columnist Jerry Green, n 2016 as the only three writers to cover every one of the first 50 Super Bowls. Klein finally missed a Super Bowl during the COVID season of 2020 when the Bucs beat the Chiefs in Tampa, Florida. Klein wrote 35 books, including 'The Game of Their Lives' about the 1958 NFL Championship Game.

NJ cover band canceled after Springsteen's anti-Trump comments
After Bruce Springsteen kicked off his European tour last week with comments calling President Trump corrupt and incompetent, he was warned by the Commander-in-Chief that there could be consequences for the 'Born in the USA' singer back home. However, it's a New Jersey tribute band that makes money covering Springsteen songs that appears to be bearing the brunt of the Boss's actions. Riv's Toms River Hub planned to host the cover band No Surrender on May 30, but the show was reportedly 86ed after management expressed concerns that Springsteen's comments have made his music radioactive to their clientele. On Thursday, bandleader Brad Hobicorn told NJ Advance Media that he started getting messages from bar owner Tony Rivoli indicating he was getting cold feet about the upcoming gig. He said the nine-piece band was told on Sunday the show was 'too risky at the moment,' and that their $2,500 payday would be nixed. 'Because Bruce can't keep his mouth shut we're screwed,' Rivoli texted Hobicorn. The skittish bar owner also texted the band's bass player his regrets that the Springsteen-themed show wasn't happening. 'Toms River is red and won't stand for [Springsteen's] bulls–t,' Rivoli wrote. According to texts obtained by NJ Advance Media, Rivoli said he'd change his mind if No Surrender could convince him that they could draw at least 75 fans to the show. The band ultimately decided not to move forward. Hobicorn conceded 'there was definitely a safety concern' and said it's best the concert isn't happening due to their negative feelings on the situation. The band will instead perform at Headliner Oasis in Neptune Township on May 30. As the Boss began the last leg of his Land of Hope and Dreams tour, he told fans in Manchester that Trump is leading the U.S. to a dark place. 'The America I love, the America I've written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration,' he said on May 14. The president responded on Truth Social by calling Springsteen a 'prune' and warning him that insulting a U.S. leader abroad could mean trouble for the 75-year-old rocker when he gets home. 'We'll all see how it goes for him!' Trump tweeted.

N.J. bar cancels Springsteen cover band over rocker's anti-Trump comments: ‘won't stand for his bulls—'
Bruce Springsteen just got cancelled — at the Jersey Shore. A tribute band dedicated to The Boss' music pulled the plug on a gig at a bar not far from his Garden State home after a dispute with its owner over the singer-songwriter's anti-Trump comments, according to a report. No Surrender, a 20-year-old nine-piece Springsteen cover band from New Jersey, was slated to play Riv's Toms River Hub on May 30th — until the 'I'm on Fire' singer kicked off his European tour packed with on-stage rants flaming President Trump, NJ Advance Media reported. Band leader Brad Hobicorn started receiving 'concerned texts' from bar owner Tony Rivoli shortly after Springsteen's comments went viral, according to the outlet. 3 No Surrender, a Springsteen cover band, was slated to perform at Riv's Tom's River Hub on May 30th until concerned texts from the bar's owner over Springsteen's anti-Trump comments. YouTube/No Surrender Band NJ By Sunday, Rivoli allegedly pulled the plug on the show that was booked 9 months in advance. He texted Hobicorn that the gig would be 'too risky at the moment,' citing the restaurant's conservative customer base, the outlet reported. 'Unfortunately it's just too much money I wanted to do the Springsteen tribute for that money in my social media team would have promoted it we would have done well but now because Bruce can't keep his mouth shut we're screwed,' Rivoli wrote in a text message to Hobicorn obtained by NJ Advance Media. Hobicorn offered to have his band play only classic-rock covers instead of Springsteen, but Rivoli balked at paying $2,500 for a classic-rock cover band, the outlet said. 3 Bar owner Tony Rivoli pulled the plug on the show, saying the gig would be 'too risky at the moment,' and cited his restaurant's conservative customer base. Google Maps In a message sent to the band's bassist, Guy Fleming, Rivoli wrote, 'Whenever the national anthem plays, my bar stands and is in total silence, that's our clientele. Toms River is red and won't stand for his bull—.' After Fleming posted about the situation on Facebook, Rivoli seemed to change his tune a bit — insisting he never cancelled the gig and had changed his mind. But the band decided it was too late for the bar owner to backtrack. 'This is not political for us at all,' Hobicorn told the outlet Thursday. 'We're just a cover band that's trying to make some money and people rely on it financially. We're the ones really getting hurt.' 'At that point, there were negative vibes about the whole thing,' Hobicorn said. 'There was definitely a safety concern,' he said. Rivoli, though, insisted the cover band could have played. 'As of (Wednesday), they could have played as No Surrender,' Rivoli told the outlet. 3 Springsteen lambasted Trump's administration as 'corrupt, incompetent and treasonous' while kicking off the European leg of his 'Land of Hope and Dreams' tour in Manchester, England, last week. Aqua Blu Kitchen & Cocktails in Toms River put a hamburger on its menu dedicated to the right wing extremist group the 'Proud Boys' in January — leading to a massive online backlash and an apology from the owner. Springsteen — who was born in Long Branch and raised in Freehold — lambasted Trump's administration as 'corrupt, incompetent and treasonous' while kicking off the European leg of his 'Land of Hope and Dreams' tour in Manchester, England last week. Last Friday, Trump slammed the musician, calling him 'Highly Overrated' and 'dumb as a rock' for going 'to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States.' 'Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he's not a talented guy — Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK, who fervently supported Crooked Joe Biden, a mentally incompetent FOOL, and our WORST EVER President, who came close to destroying our Country,' he posted to Truth Social. Instead of playing The Riv's Tom's River Hub, No Surrender will instead play Headliner Oasis in Neptune Township on May 30, according to the outlet.
