The two-way star secured his second monthly award with the Dodgers after getting his first last September, adding to four AL accolades he won while playing for the Los Angeles Angels. The 30-year-old led MLB with his 15 home runs in May, when he had two games with two homers, as he tied both his personal and Dodgers franchise records for most homers in a month. He also led the big leagues with 31 runs scored, while his 27 RBIs were second in the NL as he batted .309. With his sixth, Ohtani rewrote his own record for most MLB monthly awards won by a Japanese player. Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees won the AL Player of the Month after the right fielder batted .364 with 11 homers and 18 RBIs. The San Francisco Giants' Robbie Ray was named the NL Pitcher of the Month after posting a 4-1 record with a 1.38 ERA, while Kris Bubic of the Kansas City Royals won the AL title after going 3-0 with a 0.56 ERA. Advertisement Many of San Francisco's arms have pitched well this season, but one in particular was recognized for his strong performance in the month of May. Giants left-handed starting pitcher Robbie Ray and Kansas City Royals lefty Kris Bubic were awarded National League and American League Pitcher of the Month honors, respectively. Ray's 1.38 ERA across six May starts solidified the veteran lefty as a co-ace alongside Logan Webb atop the Giants' 2025 rotation. Yamamoto (4-3) suffered his third loss after giving up two home runs, including a grand slam, in five innings of work at Chase Field. Gabriel Moreno's grand slam to right-center broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning. Ketel Marte also homered off the Japanese right-hander to give the D-backs a 5-0 lead in the fifth. Yamamoto, the National League Pitcher of the Month for March-April, allowed six hits while walking one and striking out four in an 88-pitch outing. "(In the fourth) I issued a walk and hit a batter. After those basic mistakes, I surrendered a home run," said Yamamoto, whose ERA rose to 1.80 from 0.90. "The way I loaded the bases was bad. I should reflect on that." Brandon Pfaadt (6-2) outpitched Yamamoto with 6-1/3 scoreless innings. Ohtani hit his 11th home run of the season with two outs in the ninth before Mookie Betts flied out for the final out of the game. Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies leads the NL with 12 home runs.
