Koradi Temple Rear Gate Slab Crashes, 17 Labourers Injured

1 2 Nagpur: The under-construction slab of the rear gate of Koradi temple crashed late Saturday, injuring 17 labourers, who were extricated from the rubble and rushed to hospital. Though there were no casualties, the accident sent shockwaves through the city's key pilgrimage centre, which was being redeveloped by Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA). The development agency's commissioner Sanjay Meena said, an inquiry will be conducted and action taken against the contractor, if found guilty. The crash happened on the temple's rear side, which has been cordoned off and is currently inaccessible to devotees. Officials said, at least 15 workers were atop the scaffolding when it gave way. Rescue operations were launched swiftly with teams from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), city police, fire brigade, revenue department, and NMRDA pressed into service. Nagpur collector Vipin Itankar confirmed 17 workers sustained injuries and nobody died. "We are following protocols of rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation," he told reporters at the spot. Itankar stated he was in touch with guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, a key patron and driving force behind turning the temple into a major tourist draw. Zonal deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Niketan Kadam, who spearheaded the rescue efforts, stated the likelihood of casualties is negligible. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo "However, intensive searches are continuing to ensure no one remains trapped under the debris," he said. Joint commissioner of police Navinchandra Reddy was also present at the site, overseeing operations. Fire tenders from Koradi thermal power station, Saoner fire station, Khaparkheda thermal power station, and Sugat Nagar fire station were deployed in the rescue operation. An official from Sugat Nagar fire station clarified that though the site falls outside their jurisdiction, their vehicles were sent as a precautionary measure following a request from Koradi fire station. Rescue operations continued late into the night with authorities clearing rubble and securing the area. DCP Kadam assured that every nook and corner of the site is being thoroughly searched to rule out the possibility of anyone being buried under the debris. The incident raised concerns about safety protocols at the construction site, particularly during the monsoon. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of collapse. Koradi slab collapsed as cuplock of one of the pipes in scaffolding broke

Nagpur: Construction of the Ramayana gate or VIP gate, whose slab collapsed on Saturday night, is part of the ongoing beautification and redevelopment project of the Shri Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Mandir at Koradi being implemented by the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA). According to NMRDA sources, the incident happened while casting the slab of the VIP gate towards the Ramayana Cultural Centre. "The under-construction part of the structure collapsed after cuplock of one of the pipes in the scaffolding erected for centering broke," said the sources. They said that the slab work was going on between two raised columns of the gate. NMRDA commissioner Sanjay Meena rushed to the spot on being informed about the accident. Sources said that the under-construction gate is part of the ongoing Rs214.94 crore phase 3 and phase 4 of the historic Koradi Temple Revelopment and Beautification project. The govt has released Rs95 crore so far, with another Rs119.94 crore awaited. Earlier, NMRDA had completed the phase 1 and 2 of the project which included redevelopment of existing temple and construction of Ramayana Museum. NMRDA Calls Builders' Meet After Rs1,500Cr Bhavan Project Fails To Attract Bids

Nagpur: In a bid to salvage its ambitious Rs1,500 crore NMRDA Bhavan project that failed to attract a single bid during its first tendering attempt, the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has now invited developers and entrepreneurs for a meeting to gather suggestions and understand the concerns that may have deterred participation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The crucial meeting is scheduled to be held on Friday at the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) office in Sadar, where the NMRDA currently operates from. The initiative is aimed at encouraging dialogue with real estate sector and reworking the project structure based on their feedback. The NMRDA, which governs areas outside the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) limits, currently lacks a dedicated office space of its own. Recognising the operational challenges of managing a vast and rapidly growing metropolitan region from a temporary setup, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier this year instructed officials to identify a suitable site and begin work on a permanent facility at the earliest. State revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule took charge of the project implementation. Following the CM's directive, a 22-acre parcel of land owned by NMRDA in Mouza Sondapar near Jamtha stadium on Wardha Road was finalised for the project. Officials said the location was chosen for its connectivity and long-term development potential. According to sources, the proposed infrastructure was to be developed through design, build, finance, maintain, and sale (DBFMS) model. Under this model, developer would construct the NMRDA Bhavan, officers' quarters, residential buildings, a clubhouse, and other facilities. In return, the developer would be allowed to commercially utilise around 6 to 6.5 acres of the land in front — a potentially lucrative incentive. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "This land is strategically located, and the blueprint was made keeping in mind the future needs of NMRDA. The office building is just one part of the larger vision. Residential quarters are essential too, since the project site is far from the city. Without them, it would be difficult for employees to work there or otherwise citizens visiting the office would face inconvenience if the officials are reaching late," said a senior NMRDA official. Despite the scale and the commercial opportunity, the project failed to get any response in the first tender. Officials believe a lack of clarity or concerns over the return on investment may have discouraged developers. "We have called this meeting to understand the developers' perspective. It's a chance to hear their suggestions, concerns and see what changes are required to make the project more attractive," the official said, adding after the meeting many things would be made clear. A fresh tender process may be issued after incorporating feedback received during the meeting.

Kickstart Process To Grant Metro City Tag To Nagpur: Fuke Writes To Fadnavis

Nagpur: MLC Parinay Fuke on Thursday wrote to CM Devendra Fadnavis requesting to kick start the process for Nagpur to be officially tagged as a 'metro city', something which will bring in multiple benefits for the area apart from boasting rights. The power to reclassify any city as "X" category, or a metro city, lies with the central govt's Directorate of Census Operations. While having a 50 lakh-plus population is needed to be reclassified as "X" city, the central govt's Urban Agglomeration (UA) clause allows population of neighbouring urban areas to be counted. This means that areas like Kamptee etc can be included in census of Nagpur city, thus propelling it to metro city tag. Fuke in his letter said, "Despite Nagpur being the second capital of Maharashtra, it has not yet received metro city status from the central government, which is concerning. Nagpur has institutions like AIIMS, the high court, Vidhan Bhavan, MIHAN project, along with significant industrial and government establishments. Yet, the consideration for granting Nagpur metro city status has not been done". Fuke added, "If the areas under NMRDA, including Beltarodi, Khapri, Hingna, Wadi, Piwala, Narsala, Godhni, Zingabai Takli, and nearby regions are counted within Nagpur's urban population (Urban Agglomeration), then Nagpur will immediately qualify for metro city status". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Rina Sinha, president of Vidarbha Economic Development (VED) Council said Nagpur truly deserves the metro tag. "VED Council has always maintained that it's time Nagpur gets its due by getting a metro tag as it fulfils all conditions of UA clause," said Sinha. "We can easily achieve the 50-lakh population with the peripheral towns which are very much a part of Nagpur thanks to the phenomenal connectivity. Nagpur is becoming one of the fastest growing cities with major investments, literate population and central location," said Sinha. She added, "VED Council appeals to the District Collector to further its application to the authorities making Nagpur the next metro city in the country. The prestige of being called a Metro City is due for we Nagpurians." The Urban Agglomeration (UA) clause of the Census Department allows adjoining urbanised areas to be counted as part of a city's total population when determining eligibility for metro city status. For inclusion under UA, the growth must be contiguous, without rural gaps, and the adjoining areas must have urban infrastructure. This provision is used to account for suburban and peri-urban regions functionally integrated with the main city. Once applied, the combined population of the core city and its adjoining urban pockets can help meet the 50 lakh benchmark required for metro city classification. The Census Department assesses and certifies UA status. An X category city is a classification used also for determining allowances like House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Transport Allowance for central government employees. Cities with a population of 50 lakh and above, as per the Census Department, are categorised as X category. This status directly impacts employee benefits and service conditions.

Tajbagh beautification: Phase 1 completed, NMRDA awaits Rs 95.87 crore for phase 2

1 2 Nagpur: The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has almost completed the Rs 132.49 crore phase 1 of the Tajbagh renovation and beautification project and is now awaiting Rs 95.87 crore to start phase 2 of the project. Under the first phase, NMRDA strengthened and beautified the main dargah, constructed a shopping complex, a choti dargah, shops, and other structures, including marble flooring. According to NMRDA sources, Phase 1 of the project received Rs 132.49 crore administrative approval, out of which the agency received Rs 128.95 crore, while Rs 3.54 crore is pending. Out of the received funds, NIT spent Rs 127.50 crore and almost completed the works, with some work on the shopping complex and sandal room still pending. "Excluding the works on the encroached land, all other development works have been completed and handed over to the Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Trust. The inauguration of the project took place in November 2022. Subsequently, encroachment on the project land was removed, and the Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Trust made the land available. Accordingly, a tender for the remaining work was floated, and a work order for Rs 5.49 crore was issued to the contractor in October 2023. The deadline for completion of the work is set for March 2025, but it is still under way," said NMRDA sources. The proposal for the approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) Phase 2, worth Rs 224 crore, was submitted to the planning department in December 2022. NIT sources said that the proposal was approved in the district-level committee meeting held in March 2024. It was then forwarded to the govt for a final approval. The high-powered committee, in its meeting in March 2025, approved the revised proposal amounting to Rs 95.18 crore, which includes 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the Rs 66.58 crore plan, along with 25% for other related components. NIT sources said that several components from the earlier proposal were dropped, including the entry gate on Umred Road, shopping complex, auditorium, e-library, housing scheme, and others. "Some of the important works approved included a boundary wall around the trust's 84-acre land, toilets, and decoration of the wall near the main Dargah, which will be done in the second phase after receiving funds from the govt," said sources.
