Drake's 'NOKIA' tops charts as OVO's Preme claims Kendrick Lamar didn't end his career
Drake's latest track 'NOKIA' has reached the top of Apple Music's Top 100 Global chart, and OVO affiliate Preme is using the moment to push back on claims that Kendrick Lamar ended the rapper's career. The Canadian artist shared his reaction on social media, highlighting the chart success as proof that Drake remains at the top of the rap industry. 'They said we were dead,' Preme wrote. 'They said it was over, they said Super Bowl was checkmate, they said he should take a few years off and disappear. Back on top even while beefing with the label and it's only April! This why yall hate the boy.' He followed up with, 'The best revenge is success.' The rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has drawn attention over the past year, as both artists released projects and commentary aimed at each other. While Drake has dominated streaming numbers with 'NOKIA,' Kendrick Lamar holds strong positions on the Billboard Hot 100 with tracks like 'luther.' Despite ongoing debates between fanbases, both artists continue to perform well across platforms. Some listeners expected their feud to significantly damage one career, but the continued commercial performance from both sides suggests otherwise. Preme's defence of Drake is not the only voice in the ongoing discussion. Online forums, social media, and industry commentary have all contributed to the larger conversation around the two rappers' status and influence in 2025. While Kendrick's influence remains steady, and his upcoming tour with DJ Mustard and SZA has generated buzz, Drake's streaming momentum suggests his fanbase remains engaged and supportive. The competition between the two artists is fuelling interest, but both appear secure in their positions. The streaming battle continues, but Preme's comments reflect a belief that success on the charts speaks louder than speculation.

Drake Capitalizes On 'NOKIA' Popularity With New Music Video
When Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR released their joint album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U just over a month ago, fans immediately gravitated to 'NOKIA.' The 6 God has now capitalized on that organic rise—releasing the track's highly anticipated music video this week. From the day of its release, listeners have been speculating about the visuals; specifically, when they would arrive and what they might look like. The 38-year-old rapper has specialized in turning his popular records into not just regular music videos but almost short films, such as 2019's 'No Guidance' with Chris Brown, 2022's 'Spin Bout U,' or 2023's 'You Broke My Heart.' So, expectations were high even before he mentioned that the 'NOKIA' video had been shot on IMAX. This time around, Drake did something a little different. The grayscale music video did focus heavily on women, but not in the party or roller rink manner that fans had predicted. Instead, there was elaborate choreography, with even Drizzy showing off a two-step. A woman walked through a miniature figurine version of Toronto, a welder sported a Chrome Hearts mask, Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made a cameo appearance and flexed with his Converse SHAI 001 signature sneaker, all while the five-time Grammy winner seemingly set up parties via his classic Nokia cellphone. There are, notably, no skits or cheeky elements though. Watch the music video above. Drake's timing for the 'NOKIA' music video couldn't be any better. The record hit its peak position on the Billboard Hot 100 this week at No. 7, making it the second highest-charting song from $ome $exy $ongs 4 U; 'Gimme A Hug,' the highest-charting song from the album, debuted at No. 6 on the long-running chart. Meanwhile, the 21-song project has maintained a constant presence in the Billboard 200 since its release on Valentine's Day. It debuted at No. 1 with 246,000 album-equivalent units in its first week and has remained in a tight race with Kendrick Lamar's November 2024 album GNX. $$$4U marked PARTYNEXTDOOR's first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and his largest first-week sales performance in his career. The album featured Yebba, Chino Pacas, and Pimmie, who got a solo performance on 'Pimmie's Dilemma.' Drake has already alluded to another solo album being on the way, though no date has been announced yet. With 'NOKIA' as a reminder that neither a rap beef loss nor a constantly-slandered defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group has stopped his ability to make a hit, it will be interesting to see how his next solo effort performs. Drake Unveils Release Date For Highly Anticipated 'NOKIA' Music Video
Drake continues trying to get back into the good graces of the zeitgeist, this time by giving fans exactly what they want. The Canadian rapper took to Instagram on Tuesday (March 25) with a mini trailer for the visuals shown off entirely in Black and white. After traveling through what appears to be space and time, the otherworldly scenery gives way to a bright light that gives fans one message: 'IMAX.' The logo then transforms with the 'a' getting replaced with the OVO Owl symbol. ''NOKIA,' March 31st, Directed by Theo $$$kudra, Filmed for IMAX,' Drizzy typed on his IG post. And while the video will finally be released on Monday (March 31), 'NOKIA' became a fan-favorite cut way back in February. The track appeared on Drake and PartyNextDoor's $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, and quickly established itself as a standout track of the collection of songs released. Early predictions from the 'Talk of the Charts' platform are expecting that song to move up four spots and land at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the list dated to April 5, 2025. As for the details of the video, little is known about what will happen in the visuals. However, the song itself is soaked in early 2000s nostalgia, with the title itself alluding to the ever-present phones that littered Y2K culture as cell phones began to take over. 'NOKIA' is a summer number produced by Elkan that has two parts — one jittery and floral, evoking a night out at the club with the other side slowing down the vibes, growing into a more sensual and intimate encounter as the song progresses. Listen to 'NOKIA' and watch the music video teaser above. More from Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime Show Sparks 125 FCC Complaints J. Drake confirms 'NOKIA' music video release date as '$ome $exy $ongs 4 U' becomes 2025's fastest-selling album
Drake is back in the spotlight with a long-awaited announcement. The Canadian superstar has officially revealed that the music video for his hit track 'NOKIA' will premiere this Friday, March 28. The announcement was made on his Instagram Story on Sunday, March 23, sending fans into a frenzy as they gear up for the visual release. 'NOKIA' stands out as the clear fan-favorite from Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR's collaborative album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. Despite being a solo cut, fans praised its emotional depth and infectious replay value, with many saying the track 'carried the album' and deserved a visual from the moment it dropped. The announcement follows growing demands for more content from the duo's surprise hit album. And the timing couldn't be better—$ome $exy $ongs 4 U has already become the fastest-selling album of 2025, racking up over 500,000 album-equivalent units and on its way to a Gold certification by the RIAA. Even amid soft, melancholic vibes, fans have found comfort and consistency in the album. Streaming platforms reflect that, with Drake's track 'Fake Love' recently crossing the 1 billion streams milestone on Spotify—making him the rapper with the most songs over the billion mark, now totaling 23 tracks. The buzz around 'NOKIA' also comes as fans reflect on the one-year anniversary of the Drake-Kendrick Lamar beef, a saga still fueling conversations online. While Kendrick's diss 'Not Like Us' made waves, it also sparked Drake's defamation lawsuit against UMG. Though the battle may simmer down legally, the rivalry remains a hot topic for fans. Still, Drake appears focused on the music. As one fan posted, 'All I care about now is the 'NOKIA' video—just give us that masterpiece.' And with its release just days away, the hype around the visual suggests Drake's not slowing down anytime soon.
