Sovereignty, fresh off his length victory in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy, is the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll's new leader. Already topping the NTRA's most recent Top 3-Year-Old Poll, Godolphin's G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Belmont Stakes-winning homebred is now considered a top candidate for Horse of the Bill Mott trainee's resume is further bolstered by a win in the G2 Fountain of Youth and a second in the G1 Florida Derby. The son of Into Mischief is expected to make his next start in the G1 Travers on Aug. 23 at Saratoga Race Course. Repole Stable and St. Elias LLC's Mindframe is now second after leading this poll for the past month. The winner of the G1 Churchill Downs Stakes and G1 Stephen Foster is entered in the Whitney on Aug. 2, although it is unlikely he will run, unless stablemate Fierceness, ranked fourth on the poll, is out G1 Haskell winner Journalism holds third for a second week. The Michael McCarthy trainee also won the G1 Preakness Stakes and G1 Santa Anita Derby. He was second in the G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Belmont Stakes to Sovereignty. Journalism is owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Bridlewood Farm, Don Alberto Stable, Robert V. LaPenta, Elayne Stables Five, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael B. Tabor, and Derrick Smith. Jumping to sixth on the poll is Baoma Corp.'s Nysos. The 4-year-old son of Nyquist won the G2 San Diego Stakes over the weekend and the G3 Triple Bend in May. Nysos is trained by Bob addition to Mindframe and Fierceness, No. 8 Sierra Leone and No. 10 White Abarrio are also entered in the 1 ⅛-mile Whitney. The weekly Top Thoroughbred Poll represents the leading contenders for Horse of the Year. Rankings in the poll are on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis with first-place votes in parentheses.
