Corporate Debt Sales Top $1 Trillion at Fastest Pace Since 2020

A massive wall of debt coming due, an unpredictable US leader and falling yields have compelled corporate borrowers to sell debt this year at the fastest clip since the pandemic debt binge of 2020. The annual supply of fresh investment-grade bonds surpassed $1 trillion on Tuesday, a day earlier than it did last year. Refinancings, like Japanese telecom giant NTT Inc.'s sale of more than $11 billion in bridge loans used to take its data-center business private, as well as mergers and acquisitions — including $26 billion Mars Inc. bonds to fund its acquisition of foodmaker Kellanova — helped set the milestone.

NTT Poised to Start Dual-Currency Bond Sale to Refinance M&A

NTT Inc., the Japanese telecom giant, is poised to kick off what could be a jumbo bond sale to help refinance bridge loans used to make its data center business a wholly owned unit. Subsidiary NTT Finance Corp. has hired banks to arrange calls from Monday for a potential multi-tranche debt offering in dollars and euros, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. NTT is set to tap investors at a time when credit spreads in global markets have tightened back to near their lowest since the global financial crisis, a Bloomberg index shows, as investor concerns about trade and the US economy have eased.

"NTT" to become telecom giant's official company name in July

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan's largest telecommunications provider, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp., will change its official name to NTT Inc. on July 1 after shareholders approved the switch to the commonly used abbreviation on Thursday. Noting the decades-old name no longer accurately reflects its contemporary areas of operation, which range from information and communication technology to real estate, Senior Executive Vice President Takashi Hiroi said the change will "enhance our brand as a leading global company." The company said it will continue to use the signature "Dynamic Loop" design as its corporate logo. The original name has been in use since NTT was established as a public corporation in 1952. It continued to be used through its privatization in 1985. The name change became possible with the amendment of the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation Act last year, which loosened regulations on the company that has long provided vital public services.
