Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail okays DPRs for 3 corridors of Phase 2B, Telangana govt nod awaited

The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of the proposed Phase 2B of Hyderabad Metro Rail for three corridors — Jubilee Bus Station (JBS)-Medchal, JBS-Shameerpet, and Airport-Future City — have been approved by the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) board, officials said on Thursday. The proposed corridors span a length of 86.1 km and are estimated at a cost of ₹19,579 crore. According to N V S Reddy, managing director of HAML, the DPRs are currently under review by the Telangana government. 'Confidentiality needs to be maintained on certain aspects related to these until the state government approval is received, and therefore, full details cannot be provided at this time,' he said. However, he added that several aspects have been included in the DPR, along with transforming JBS into an international hub as per the directions of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He revealed that the JBS-Medchal route will be a fully elevated corridor of 24.5 kilometres with 18 stations whereas the JBS Station-Shameerpet route will be a 22-kilometer corridor with 14 stations. This route will be 20.35 km elevated and 1.65 km underground. The Metro MD said that the underground route will be near the Hakimpet Airport. RGIA-Future City (Skill University) is 39.6 kilometers, of which 1.5 km will be underground from the airport, 21 km elevated, and 17 km at grade. He stated that it would be from Shamshabad International Airport to Skills University via Pedda Golconda and Raviryala ORR exits. N V S Reddy reiterated that the second phase (B) DPRs have been comprehensively prepared and submitted to the state government, keeping in view the central government guidelines, Metro rail construction estimates in other states, and the traffic needs of Hyderabad city. He stated that full details will be given once the state government approves the DPRs and submits the proposal to the Central Government. The HMRL currently operates three corridors covering 69 km and is the largest public-private partnership Metro rail project in the world. Under Phase-1, the HMRL has been operating LB Nagar to Miyapur, Nagole to Raidurgam, and JBS to MGBS corridors for the last five years. The stretch between MGBS to Falaknuma has not materialised, mainly due to objections to property acquisition and route alignment issues, and the new government has taken up this stretch along with the rest of the Phase 2 corridors. Under phase 2, significant expansion to existing Metro rail corridors is planned for about 76 km at an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore. These include Miyapur to Patancheru (approximately 13.4 km) with about 10 stations; Nagole to Shamshabad Airport via LB Nagar and Chandrayangutta (approximately 29 km) with 24 stations; Raidurg to Kokapet (approximately 8 km) with eight stations; LB Nagar to Hayathnagar via Vanasthalipuram (approximately 7.1 km) with 6 stations; and MGBS to Falaknuma (approximately 7.5 km) with six stations.

Hyd'bad Metro Phase II B DPRs finalised

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail announced on Thursday that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the proposed Phase II B corridors—JBS-Medchal-Shameerpet, and Airport—Future City Metro corridors—have been finalised. These metro corridors will cover a total distance of 86.1 kilometres and are estimated to cost Rs 19,579 crore. This has come into forefront after a few reports on incomplete preparation of DPRs for Medchal, Shameerpet, and Future City Metro Rail project were circulated recently. Claiming that this is false, NVS Reddy, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metro Rail, said, 'The DPRs for these proposed corridors for the next phase were prepared and approved by the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited Board on May 8. They are currently under review by the State government. The DPRs for these new corridors have been comprehensively prepared and submitted to the State government, considering the Central government guidelines, metro rail construction estimates in other States, and traffic needs of the Hyderabad capital region.' Highlighting that 18 stations have been planned in a 24.5 km JBS- Medchal route, a senior officer said, 'The JBS Station - Medchal route will be a fully elevated corridor of 24.5 kilometres with 18 stations, while the JBS Station - Shameerpet route will be a 22-kilometre corridor with 14 stations. This route will be 20.35 km of elevated section and 1.65 km of underground section near the Hakimpet Air Force Station.' He added that the RGIA-Future City (Skill University) corridor spans a total of 39.6 kilometres, including a 1.5-kilometre underground stretch at RGIA airport. The rest of the route comprises 21 kilometres of elevated track and 17 kilometres at grade (on the ground). This corridor will connect Shamshabad International Airport to Skills University, passing through Pedda Golconda and the Raviryala ORR exits. 'Full details will be out once the State government approves the DPRs and submits the proposal to the Central government. These reports have several aspects, including transforming the JBS region into an international hub,' added NVS Reddy.

Hyderabad Metro one of India's best: Harvard University

HYDERABAD: Bold decisions and administrative efficiency contributed to making Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) one of India's best Metro systems, said a research paper of Harvard University. Effective leadership helped overcome challenges such as land acquisition, government approvals, political pressures and financial constraints, the research paper said. The research study, which was published by Harvard Business publication, recognised the HMR as one of the largest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model projects worldwide. This recognition highlights HMR's achievements on a global scale, solidifying its place in the history of urban infrastructure development. The research study also stated that strategic planning and diplomatic negotiations positioned HMR as a globally recognised infrastructure development. The research focused on HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy's leadership and strategic skills in driving the project and how it overcame several hurdles. It explains that from inception, the project faced innumerable challenges such as the initial land acquisition issues, public protests, religious and heritage issues, political uncertainties, and financial hurdles. Despite these obstacles, the HMR has emerged as a world-class infrastructure project. The implementation approach followed in the project is considered unique. The Harvard publication mentions that the project has created a lasting impact due to its distinctive planning methods, advanced technology, financial strategies, and problem-solving leadership.
