When will it snow today? It depends on where you're at in Oklahoma. See timeline, forecast

Parts of the state including Oklahoma City have already seen frozen precipitation this morning. But what about snow? The latest forecast from the National Weather Service isn't clear about when freezing drizzle might transition into snow, but if snowflakes fall on Oklahoma City, it probably won't happen until late this morning. More: Live updates: Snow, ice fall across Oklahoma. See road conditions, school closures Forecasters expect a band of snow to develop later Tuesday morning and into the afternoon. The heaviest snowfall will be seen in northeastern Oklahoma, with the tail end of the band reaching north of Oklahoma City. These areas could see between 2 and 7 inches of snow. In central Oklahoma, residents might eventually see between 1 and 3 inches of snow as precipitation levels ramp up this morning, according to NWS meteorologists in Norman. Oklahoma City residents are more likely to see a layer of ice if they leave the house. Luckily it won't be a thick layer, meaning there is a low chance we could see power outages caused by ice accumulation. It will create hazardous traveling conditions, though. "After a brief period of freezing drizzle or light freezing rain this morning, we now expect mainly light sleet/snow across the I-44 corridor and OKC metro area," NWS Norman wrote. "Up to a half inch of sleet and a dusting to one inch of snow is expected in these areas." Depending on how the snowstorm moves through the atmosphere on Tuesday, it could dip down this afternoon into central Oklahoma. Some computer models suggest this will happen. More: How much snow, cold does it take to cancel school? Oklahoma school officials weigh in "Even with the somewhat lower snow/ice amounts forecast, the overall impact remains unchanged for our area. The main concern will be hazardous travel in the Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning areas due to a combination of ice and/or snow leading to slick roadways," the forecast reads. "Blowing and drifting snow will be an additional concern across north-central Oklahoma, with near-blizzard conditions possible this afternoon in these areas." Sub-freezing temperatures remain the biggest long-term risk this week. Some parts of the state could see the temperature go below zero, and the wind chill could reach -15 degrees. Any ice or snow that falls on Tuesday has a chance to remain on the ground until this weekend when temperatures finally recover.
