'Terima kasih polis': Rallygoers show appreciation for cops [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Chants of "Terima kasih polis" rang out across the Central Market area this afternoon as participants gathered for the Pas-led rally. The large crowd included Bersatu Youth exco Na'im Brundage. Other politicians expected to arrive in Sogo before making their way to Dataran Merdeka include former PKR vice-president Tian Chua and political activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegu Bard. Some participants were also spotted holding banners which read "Mahasiswa Tertekan" (students under pressure), while others chanted, "Turun Pakatan Harapan" and "Turun Anwar". Police anticipate a turnout of between 10,000 and 15,000 people at today's rally. Participants are set to gather at Masjid Negara, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, and Kompleks Sogo — before converging at Dataran Merdeka. The rally aims to pressure the government over issues such as the rising cost of living and alleged institutional failures. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police would facilitate the assembly. A total of 16 roads will be closed for the rally, which is expected to end after 5.15pm. Police have advised the public to plan their journeys in advance and use public transport where possible to avoid congestion in the city centre.

Police identify witness in case of Bersatu Armada exco receiving death threats

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — Police have identified a key witness in the investigation into a death threat case involving a company director who is also Bersatu Youth (Armada) exco. Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said investigations found that the victim did not know the suspect who allegedly threatened to kill him. He said two witnesses have been called so far, and their statements recorded to assist in the investigation. 'Police have also identified a key witness in this case, who will be called in to have a statement recorded. We believe this witness could provide crucial information in identifying those involved and shedding light on the motive behind the threats made against the complainant,' he said in a statement today. However, he said, so far, no arrests have been made against any individuals in connection with the case. He said police are actively working to identify the suspect and are investigating the case from all possible angles, while also prioritising the safety of the complainant. 'The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication,' he added. 'The public with any relevant information is urged to contact investigating officer Insp Pang Wei Keong at 013-208 2391 or the head of the District Criminal Investigation Division DSP Rosdi M. Husin at 013-392 0694,' he said. Earlier, media reported that Armada exco Na'im Brundage claimed he had received death threats, including threats of being splashed with acid by unknown individuals. He lodged a police report out of concern for his own safety and that of his family. — Bernama

Bersatu man files report on alleged death threat

Bersatu Youth executive council member Na'im Brundage did not dismiss the possibility that the threats were politically motivated. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A Bersatu Youth leader filed a police report yesterday after allegedly receiving a death threat from an unknown person. Bersatu Youth executive council member Na'im Brundage said the person also threatened to splash acid on him, although no reason was disclosed. Na'im said he did not dismiss the possibility that the threats were politically motivated since he was active in politics and in airing his views on social media. 'Such threats will not hamper me from continuing to speak up for the people. I want to stress that I will never bow to any form of threat, pressure, or intimidation. 'I urge all Malaysians to unite and reject the culture of violent politics, and to instead defend the practice of mature politics,' he said in a statement. FMT has reached out to the Dang Wangi police for comment. Na'im left Bersatu for Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) in 2022, joining former minister Zuraida Kamaruddin. He rejoined Bersatu in November after being sacked from PBM along with 12 others, including Zuraida.
