Kota Kinabalu: The Nabba Sabah Bodybuilding Association (Nabba) invites bodybuilders in the State to participate in the Mr Nabba Sabah Championship 2025 which will be held for the first time at the Tenghilan KKD Hall on August 24. Nabba Sabah President Mohammad Jerome Robles said that eight categories will be contested which are open to man and woman athletes such as woman toned figure, men sport physique below 167cm and above 167cm, men bodybuilding above 167cm and master bodybuilding 45 years above. The category of men body smart (jeans wear) will also be contested. 'The honourable titles of 'champion of champions', best poser and most aesthetic athlete will be given to the winner who shows the best style and performance on stage. 'The most interesting thing in this competition is that the winner has the opportunity to be selected as a representative in the national level Mr Nabba Malaysia championship which will be held in the peninsula at the end of this year,' he said. Mohammad urged participants who feel qualified to take part in the competition which they consider to be unique and opens a new era for those who are interested pursuing in this sport. This is because the Mr Nabba Sabah competition in Tenghilan is the first event of Nabba Sabah since it was established a year or two ago. The entry fee is RM80 per person. The winner will receive handsome prizes including cash, a trophy and a certificate of participation. Previously he said, all major bodybuilding competitions were held in the city and this did not give those who lived far away in the interior the opportunity to witness the sport that has produced many winners at the national and Asian levels. 'In Tenghilan, we will also rent out stalls for a reasonable fee where the residents there can sell anything such as food and handicrafts. This will also provide them with some income. 'In the future, we plan to hold similar events in other districts. We want this sport to come to residents in the interior in the hope of revealing how dynamic this bodybuilding competition is,' he said. Mohammad did not deny that the people of Sabah have naturally strong and sturdy physiques. With proper training and nutrition, they are able to compete the sport at the international level. He said that Sabah has produced many bodybuilding talents from districts outside Kota Kinabalu such as Justin Sompong who became famous after winning the Asian bodybuilding championship in 1985. At the same time, he said Nabba Sabah wants to highlight the important duties and roles of bodybuilding coaches who often work behind the scenes. 'In this competition, we will give appreciation to the coaches of the participants who won on stage. We want them to be given the recognition they deserve because without coaches, the Sabah bodybuilding industry would not be as strong as it is now,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
