Giants WR Malik Nabers makes Russell Wilson, Seahawks Super Bowl admission
The post Giants WR Malik Nabers makes Russell Wilson, Seahawks Super Bowl admission appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Giants are currently partaking in training camp as they gear up for the upcoming 2025 NFL season. Arguably the most talented player on the New York roster is rising second year wide receiver Malik Nabers out of LSU, who was very impressive in his rookie season despite not having the best quarterback play to work with. The Giants attempted to upgrade in that department this offseason by signing free agent Russell Wilson, a player who Nabers has admired since his childhood. 'WR Malik Nabers says he was a Seahawks fan when Russell Wilson and Seattle won the Super Bowl, (he was was playing defense at the time so he loved Legion of Boom.) Nabers says he's grateful to have Russ influence in terms of leadership in the locker room,' reported Madelyn Burke of MSG Network on X, formerly Twitter. 'You see how he has a relationship with everybody in the building and it's important,' said Nabers. Meanwhile, Wilson has reciprocated that admiration in Nabers' direction. 'I just love how he works,' said Wilson, per Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports on X. 'A lot of times, you get talented guys, and their work ethic is super high, but can they keep it consistent? That's what you're always looking for, and I think his consistency and his love for the game… we're excited to work together.' A breakout rookie season Malik Nabers was forced to catch passes from a Motley crew of quarterbacks during his rookie season in 2024, none of whom figure to be members of the Giants' rotation this year. While Russell Wilson may not be the same player that Nabers grew up watching on the Seahawks, he's still a solid veteran who can make plays and throw accurate passes down the field, where Nabers is already as dangerous as any receiver in the NFL. The Giants also drafted another quarterback, Jaxson Dart, out of Ole Miss this spring, but in all likelihood, it will be Wilson throwing to Nabers when Week 1 rolls around assuming health. The Giants are set to take the field on September 7 on the road vs the Washington Commanders. Malik Nabers injury update: Giants star injures shoulder in practice
Malik Nabers is a player the New York Giants can't afford to lose and Tuesday's practice was enough to give the team a scare. The star receiver is coming off a dominant rookie season that saw him post 107 catches, 1,204 yards, and seven touchdowns in just 15 games despite spotty quarterback play. The 22-year-old is looking to build off that season with an improved roster in 2025, but now has to worry about the injury bug. On Tuesday, Nabers went down with an apparent shoulder injury, adding to an ongoing toe ailment that hasn't gotten better over time. Here is the latest on Nabers and his status going forward. Malik Nabers injury update Nabers was injured on a run play during Tuesday's practice, according to reports. The receiver grabbed at his shoulder following a run block. He remained on the ground momentarily and then walked off the field under his own power before meeting with the team's trainer, Ronnie Barnes. Head coach Brian Daboll received an update from Barnes and Nabers didn't return to practice. The second-year star is already dealing with a toe injury that he said dates back to his days in college at LSU. It's an issue that kept Nabers out of organized team activities (OTAs) earlier in the offseason. "It's like a mosquito that don't want to go away," Nabers said told Kay Adams on the "Up & Adams" show on Monday. "I'm trying to shoo it away. But I've been doing a great job with Russell (Wilson), trainers, you know, I've been using his physical therapist guys. I've been doing an excellent job of just staying on track of it and having his people, having my people, all together, trying to work on keeping me as healthy as possible. We're moving in the right direction. We're just staying on top of it so it don't give me any problems later on down the line." Now it appears he can add a shoulder ailment to the list. Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Heading into this second season with the New York Giants, wide receiver Malik Nabers will be playing alongside another different quarterback. That said, based on some recent comments, it's an adjustment he's more than willing to make. With Daniel Jones being waived midway through last year, Nabers caught passes from multiple QBs as a rookie. Following a busy offseason for the front office, that likely won't be the case in 2025. Upon signing a one-year deal in free agency, Russell Wilson has been named the Giants' starter. As the team's top wide receiver prospect, Nabers is someone Wilson has worked closely with since arriving in New York. The former Super Bowl winner is high on his abilities and feels the two can succeed together. After Wilson spoke briefly about their relationship, Nabers opened up about the bond they've built over the last few months. When asked his thoughts on the remark, the Giants standout had nothing but positive things to say about all their interactions thus far. "I will probably say like a true quarterback and receiver relationship," Nabers said. "I try to get as much information out of him as possible. He's been very helpful in my journey so far. With the leadership that he has added to the quarterback role, the offense, the receivers, the sky's the limit for us and I'm hoping we reach that." Heading into his sophomore campaign, things are lined up for him to take a big step forward in his development. With a player the caliber of Wilson throwing him the ball, there's no reason not to think Nabers' production won't see a reasonable uptick. Drafting him sixth overall in 2024, the Giants have aspirations of Nabers eventually emerging as a premier wide receiver in the NFL. Based on the relationship he's built with Wilson thus far, he could potentially emerge as an elite talent in 2025. New York brought in Wilson for some leadership and stability at the quarterback position. Through the opening week of camp, it's evident the impact he's had on the team both on and off the field.
