N.B. RCMP investigating possible drowning after teen's body recovered from river

Police in New Brunswick are investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy who is believed to have drowned in the Shogomoc River. The Nackawic RCMP responded to a report of a possible drowning at the Shogomoc Walking Bridge, which crosses the river, in Ritchie, N.B., before 8 p.m. Monday. 'A search effort was immediately initiated, and several services were deployed, including the RCMP'S Underwater Recovery Team and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, as well as the Hartland Fire Department dive team, to try to locate the youth,' said Nackawic RCMP Cpl. Dave Penney in a news release. RCMP divers recovered the boy's body from the water around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. His identity has not been released but police say the teen was from Brazil. Investigators don't suspect foul play. No other details have been released at this time. Police say the investigation is ongoing. For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
