Distribution of smart ration cards across Andhra from August 25

VIJAYAWADA: Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar on Tuesday announced that smart ration cards will be distributed free of cost statewide from August 25 to 31. Speaking at the Secretariat, the minister said that 1,45,97,486 beneficiaries would receive the new cards, with distribution events organised in every constituency under the supervision of local legislators and district ministers. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan will lead the programme at the State level. He said the government had digitised old ration cards and introduced secure, debit card-style smart cards with QR codes to improve transparency and accountability. The cards will carry the head of the family's photo and names of all members, with each transaction digitally logged through a Dynamic Key Register linked to the central office. No political images will be printed on the cards. From September, ration distribution will take place at 26,796 fair price shops between 8 am and 12 pm and again from 4 pm to 8 pm between the 1st and 15th of each month. Home delivery will continue for those above 65 and the differently-abled from the 26th to the 30th. Fine rice to be served in all schools, hostels from June 12: Andhra Minister Nadendla

VIJAYAWADA: Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar on Monday announced that fine rice will be supplied to all government schools and welfare hostels for Dokka Seethamma mid-day meal (MDM) scheme across Andhra Pradesh beginning June 12. Speaking at a public event in Ghantasala mandal of Avanigadda constituency, Nadendla said 3.5 lakh metric tons of rice will be delivered to 41,000 schools and 4,000 hostels, directly sourced from farmers. 'Through this initiative, we are not only serving nutritious food to children but also honouring the farmer—the backbone of the nation,' he asserted. The rice will be delivered directly by farmers to ensure fair prices and dignity for cultivators. He was speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the Kodali Agricultural Market Yard Committee, where Thota Kanakadurga Rajasekhar assumed charge as chairperson and Attaluri Gopichand as vice chairman. Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad presided over the event. On the occasion, he criticised the previous YSRCP government for forcing farmers to sell grain to select mills and delaying payments. 'They left arrears of Rs 1,674 crore. In just a month after coming to power, our coalition government cleared those dues,' he said, adding that Rs 12,400 crore had been paid to farmers for a record 48 lakh metric tons of paddy. The minister also alleged that the previous regime misused Rs 1,650 crore on 9,360 ration vehicles, which failed to deliver consistent service. He said the public distribution system has now been restored through 29,761 ration shops.

Minister Nadendla questions intention of former CM Jagan's visit to Tenali

GUNTUR: Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar on Monday accused the previous YSRCP government of turning Tenali into a centre for ganja smuggling. Speaking to mediapersons in Vijayawada, Nadendla accused the former regime of enabling rival gangs by unofficially assigning them separate zones for cannabis distribution. 'These gangs, intoxicated by ganja, resorted to unchecked violence, even assaulting innocent citizens,' he said, citing the May 2023 attack on software engineer Karthik during a visit to Tenali. The minister, who also represents the constituency, questioned Jagan's intent in visiting Tenali, asking whether it was to console victims or show solidarity with rowdy-sheeters. Nadendla also condemned a former YSRCP MLA for alleged links to the gangs and for making provocative remarks during the elections. He claimed that cannabis was cultivated in homes in areas like Ithanagar, endangering children from neighbouring Muslim-majority localities such as Tellaprolu. Telangana police, he claimed, were also attacked while pursuing smugglers, and anti-narcotics officers were transferred under political pressure. 'Unlike the chaos of the past, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan are restoring peace,' the minister said, warning Jagan not to instigate unrest during his visit, as allegedly occurred during past incidents in Amalapuram. 34.81 lakh people receive ration in two days On distribution of essentials through ration shops, Nadendla said that 34.81 lakh people received ration through 29,760 fair price shops over two days — a 60% increase compared to the 25.18 lakh last year. He added that over 3.7 lakh elderly and disabled beneficiaries received doorstep delivery. Portability and server issues were addressed promptly.
