Iraq to Launch New Colleges for AI and Digital Excellence

The Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced the establishment of two new colleges at the University of Baghdad: the College of Excellence and the College of Artificial Intelligence, with operations set to begin in the 2025/2026 academic year. The initiative was ordered by Higher Education Minister Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi, as part of a strategic vision to modernise Iraq's academic system and align it with global advancements in digital transformation and knowledge-based economies. The College of Excellence will house departments including Applied Information Systems, Data Science, E-Business Management, Accounting and Banking, Philosophy, and Sociology. Meanwhile, the College of Artificial Intelligence will offer programmes focused on engineering applications, biomedical AI, and big data analytics. Dr. Al-Aboudi has set 20 August 2025 as the deadline for fulfilling all logistical and staffing requirements. The Ministry's Directorate of Studies, Planning and Follow-up has been tasked with establishing admissions criteria and application mechanisms to ensure the recruitment of capable students and the development of forward-looking learning environments. New Academic Cooperation between Iraq and Netherlands
By John Lee. Iraq has signed a new academic protocol with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. The protocol aims to expand mutual scholarship opportunities under the Study in Iraq initiative, while fostering joint educational and research programmes that address pressing water challenges. It also includes cooperation between IHE Delft and Iraqi universities and research centres, with a focus on water sciences, training, capacity building, and curriculum development. Iraq's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi, underscored the significance of academic exchanges and collaborative programmes to enhance Iraq's scientific capacity in water-related fields. Dr. Al-Aboudi highlighted protocol which was signed at the headquarters of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and comes into effect today, Monday, May 26, 2025, includes strengthening the context of scholarships and cooperation opportunities between the Institute, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, universities and research centers, as well as developing joint educational and research programs to address water challenges. Dr. Al-Aboudi emphasized the importance of understanding in the field of mutual scholarships within the Study in Iraq program, capacity building, skills development, training programs, curricula and academic programs related to water sciences and their specialized fields. Iraq Announces Talent Scholarship Program to Int'l Universities
By John Lee. Iraq's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced the Talent Scholarship Program for the academic year 2025/2026 at advanced international universities. Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi emphasized that the Ministry has taken steps to secure the necessary financial requirements and communicate with foreign universities. According to a statement, he directed the Directorate of Scholarships and Cultural Relations and Cultural Attachés to implement, monitor and complete the program for scholarships for talented students in various specializations at international universities.
