Kadapa police arrest 6 most wanted red sanders smugglers, Rs 1 cr worth logs seized
Tirupati: Kadapa district police arrested six most wanted red sanders smugglers and seized red sanders logs worth approximately 1 cr near the Lankamalla forest area.
According to Kadapa SP EG Ashok Kumar, Chapadu police arrested E Naga Dasthagiri Reddy (35), M Ramamohan Reddy (47), U Krishnaiah (53), K Srinivasulu (44), B Obul Reddy (54) and S Balagangi Reddy (44).
Police recovered 52 red sanders logs weighing around one tonne and seized two cars and a bike from the possession of the accused.
Naga Dasthagiri Reddy was a most wanted smuggler, accused in about 84 smuggling cases and 34 theft cases. He was even booked thrice under the Preventive Detention Act but continued to involve in smuggling activities. His wife Lalubi is also a smuggler, who is serving a jail sentence at present.
Many others in his family are also involved in smuggling activities, the SP said.
Police investigation revealed that Delhi-based red sanders kingpin Saleem and others used to route money through hawala network headed by Hyderabad-based Vikram Singh Solanki to Naga Dasthagiri Reddy. Police had recently arrested Vikram Solanki.
Police said other smugglers nabbed by the police were also seasoned offenders involved in multiple smuggling cases.
