Congress alleges vote theft, holds candle march protest in Nagpur
Nagpur: The Nagpur District Congress Committee organised a candle march in the city and staged a 'Vote Thief, Leave the Chair' agitation at Samvidhan Chowk on Thursday while alleging voter list irregularities in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections last year.
Congress leaders and cadres who participated in the agitation claimed that the BJP won elections through voter list scams and vote theft, "and was backed by the Election Commission of India in this forgery". Winning elections illegitimately is not just a political issue but an insult of the voters, they said.
City Congress president MLA Vikas Thakre led the candle march from Variety Square to Samvidhan Square in the evening.
MLC Abhijit Wanjarri, general secretary Praful Gudadhe, Vishal Muttemwar, Umakant Agnihotri, Prashant Dhawad, Nash Ali, Sanjay Mahakalkar, along with party office bearers, participated in this agitation.
Gudadhe alleged that approximately 33,000 votes increased in just 5 months after the Lok Sabha elections in the South-West Assembly constituency of Nagpur city. "Voters have also increased in the neighbouring Kamptee constituency," he said.
"Complaints have been made to the Election Commission regarding the increase in voters' list, and it needs to be investigated," Gudadhe said.
