Gajanan Nimdeo Takes Charge As State Information Commissioner, Vows Effective RTI Implementation

Gajanan Nimdeo
officially assumed charge as the
State Information Commissioner
for the Nagpur Bench on Monday. Known for his 34 years of service in journalism, Nimdeo pledged to implement the Right to Information (RTI) Act effectively and ensure transparency in public administration.

The ceremony took place at the administrative building in Civil Lines at 11am, where Nimdeo began his duties. Officials, employees, and media personnel were present to greet and congratulate him. Ramesh Kulkarni, chairman of the Nagpur Divisional Accreditation Committee, welcomed him warmly on behalf of the media fraternity.
Nimdeo's journalism journey began with a Marathi daily, where he served in various roles, including journalist and trainee deputy editor.
For the past 15 years, he served as the editor of the publication, earning widespread recognition for his editorial leadership and commitment to public interest journalism.
Beyond journalism, Nimdeo was deeply involved in academic and social initiatives. He is known for guiding aspirants preparing for govt job exams, having authored seven books for MPSC preparation. His dedication to education includes 20 years of writing informative columns and offering free coaching, benefiting thousands of students.
An accomplished writer and translator, he penned over a thousand articles on social, political, and economic issues, along with more than 800 editorials. He also translated more than 3,500 articles between English and Hindi.
Over the years, he was honoured with seven prestigious awards. These include the Shakti Kumar Sancheti Memorial Award, the Maharashtra govt's Mahatma Gandhi Addiction De-Addiction Service Award, the Appasaheb Padalkar Memorial Journalism Award, the Satyajit Gaurav Award, and the Late Anil Kumar Journalism Award, among others.
Taking office with a vision for transparency and citizen empowerment, Gajanan Nimdeo's entry into public service marks a promising chapter for the RTI movement in Maharashtra.
