After BJP & Sena, NCP launches ‘janata darbar'
Thane: The Ajit Pawar-led NCP on Wednesday announced its entry into the 'janata darbar' initiative in Thane, joining its
Mahayuti allies
BJP and Shiv Sena who launched similar public outreach efforts in the city earlier this year.
Newly-appointed NCP district president and ex-corporator Najeeb Mulla said the initiative aims to create a platform for citizens to connect with elected representatives and resolve their grievances.
"There has been no elected civic body for three years, which stopped public issues from reaching the administration. We used to address these concerns at our party office in the civic headquarters but were later denied access to it by the administration. We have now begun holding these public hearings in shared spaces within the HQ from last Wednesday, and the response has been encouraging," Mulla said. The 'janata darbar' concept in Thane traces its roots to the late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe, who popularised it as an informal but effective grievance redressal mechanism. The practice gained renewed momentum recently. - Manoj Badgeri
