Review: 11 editor-approved sunscreens worth buying in 2025

This just in — wearing sunscreen is hot! Over the last decade, skincare as we know it has changed from basic pimple care to a full-circle approach that is as much preventive as it is reparative. Younger generations have begun to prioritize skin health over aesthetics, leading to the rise of a skincare trend we know oh too well — SPF ! As a loud and proud Gen Z born in 2000, I am among the future that has started asking, 'What will happen?' rather than just letting it happen. BEST OVERALL SUNSCREEN - Naked Sundays Collagen Glow 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 ($25) Drum roll, please! Our top pick after years of being an avid SPF wearer has to be Naked Sundays. The viral SPF-focused brand is known for its top-tier products from bronzers to setting sprays and beyond. My personal favorite (though I've tried nearly all of their products) has to be this Collagen Glow lotion. It has SPF 50, a seamless shade, and I seriously love the smell! Unlike some products, this one acts as your moisturizer and SPF. It deeply hydrates my skin, leaving a soft, fresh face glow with active ingredients (aka an all-in-one). BEST TINTED SUNSCREEN - Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF 40 Sunscreen ($38) Supergoop and I have a long history, and it is safe to say that after years of use, it remains my absolute favorite. This was the first face SPF product I ever tried, and the weightless application shocks me to this day! The formula is thin, not oily, and completely blendable with other skincare. (Pro-Tip: Mix it in with your moisturizer for smooth, even application!). Packed with protection, this glowy little bottle gives my skin an effortless sun-kissed effect that has become a staple in my daily skin routine. BEST BUDGET SUNSCREEN - e.l.f. Cosmetics Suntouchable Whoa Glow SPF 30 Sunscreen ($14) You don't need full pockets to get flawless SPF-protected skin, and this e.l.f product proves it. I first tried this hidden gem as a freebie while attending a music festival years ago, and now I can't imagine life without it! The priming SPF goes on incredibly thin and leaves a very subtle glow. It comes in three different glow shades, but our personal favorite continues to be Sunbeam. For only $14, this find is easily worth it for the price and makes it the most affordable option we've yet to try that made our cut. BEST LIP SUNSCREEN - Lanolips Sun Balm SPF 30 Untinted ($14) News flash! Even your lips need UV ray protection, besties. This is a recent launch I tried from Australian brand Lanolips, and to say I was SHOCKED is an understatement. I typically dislike SPF-infused lip products, but this one had a summery vibe and kept my lips moisturized for over an hour after application. It is tropically flavored, and you can even shop for a cute phone accessory that will hold it on your case! BEST SPLURGE SUNSCREEN - Charlotte Tilbury Invisible UV Flawless Primer SPF 50 ($55) What CAN'T Charlotte Tilbury do?! The makeup icon recently debuted this primer that is packed with SPF, and much like her other products — it's good. The formula is scentless, invisible, and minimizes pores for a seamless finish. After giving it a try for a week, I am convinced it is the perfect blend of makeup and SPF. We would be foolish not to mention the price tag, though... At $55, this is the most expensive buy on our list, and thus it falls lower on the scale. Is it amazing? YES! Is it worth the money? Yes, but you can find more affordable (but just as effective) options. THE SHORTLIST - Lancôme UV Expert Defense SPF 50+ Primer & Moisturizer ($48) Lancôme is a trusted skincare and beauty brand that I grew up knowing of through my mom! As I matured and began becoming more interested in appearance, I dabbled with the luxe brand and in doing so found this SPF. If you ignore the steep price tag, this primer is one hundred percent worth it. I have very few negative comments on this SPF, and if anything find it to be one of my favorites. It is light-weight, has a whopping SPF 50, and the vitamin-rich formula packs on hydration. I love how my skin feels even during hot, dry days while wearing this product. Caudalie Vinosun Protect Brightening Daily Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 50 ($39) All right beauty besties... I have to be honest, this SPF is not high on my list. Although I am a HUGE fan of the brand their SPF let me down. The consistency is more serum like (runny at times) even after shaking and it doesn't leave the 'clean girl' glow I'd expect. But that all being said it has SPF 50 which is super protective and makes it great for vacationing in the sun! Plus, the brand is known for its quality French skincare. Summer Fridays ShadeDrops Mineral Milk Sunscreen SPF 30 ($36) From their viral Lip Butter Balms to their SPF — it seems Summer Fridays is the talk of the town. I tested out the best-selling ShadeDrops, and my review is simple: good but not great. I enjoyed the thin texture, but at times feared it veered a bit too liquid for my taste. The shade of the product overall was lovely on the skin, however, my skin did not feel deeply hydrated (which for me is a must!). If you are a fan of the brand, I do think it is a definite 'add to cart' still, but if you were to ask me at $36, it would not be my first pick. Kosas DreamBeam Silicone-Free Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40 ($40) Kosas has been a favorite beauty brand of mine for some time now because their products are ultra-hydrating! This cutie SPF and highlighter duo is on rotation here and there in my routine. It leaves a good glow and comes in two shades. However, for the greasy gals, it leaves a small trace of residue, which for me was a deal breaker. Also at $40, this pint-sized pick leans more towards the high end of our range. Sun Bum Face Mist SPF 45 ($21.49) My beach go-to! Sun Bum is known for their tropical must-haves that smell faintly like banana, and this facial mist is my absolute Holy Grail. I love the scent, adore the bright packaging, and appreciate the ability to mist it instead of rubbing it all over my face. Plus, this bad boy can double as a makeup setter during hot, sweaty days. Glossier Invisible Shield Priming Sunscreen SPF 50 ($32) If you are looking for an invisible SPF(literally!), this Glossier one is for you! The small bottles pack an SPF 50 punch and, unlike many sunscreen products, are completely clear. What I like is that the formula is incredibly thin to wear and has an aloe-infused base for skin calming. My only grievance was that I found my skin felt a bit greasy, as if it could not fully absorb the product! But given my dry skin, it is entirely possible the see-through sunblock just did not jive with me. Overall, this was a nice change from the average white-cast lotion forms I have tried, and I think I will keep it on deck for the future.

Get a movie star glow with these celebrity-favourite Aussie beauty products

Want to achieve that movie star glow? US Actress, Dakota Johnston has been spotted wearing Aussie beauty brand Naked Sundays on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. The actress embraced a fresh, radiant look, showcasing several of the brand's cult-favourite SPF-infused products — including a $38 blush stick that's already generating buzz. Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell created the look, drawing inspiration directly from Johnson's intricate gown. Her goal was to achieve a luminous, natural finish that highlighted Dakota's features without overpowering them, focusing on soft definition and a healthy glow. To even out the complexion, Eisdell used the BeautyScreen Mineral Peptide Foundation Tint in Shade #2. The lightweight formula provided a sheer layer of coverage, enhancing Johnson's natural skin tone and allowing it to shine through with minimal product. The result was a luminous base that felt fresh and refined, perfect for the red carpet. Next, the CabanaGlow SPF50 Mineral Glow Serum Drops in Bronze were used to subtly sculpt the face. Applied along the jawline, cheekbones, and forehead, the serum drops brought gentle warmth and dimension, giving the effect of a soft, sun-kissed contour. For the cheeks, Eisdell reached for the SPF50 GlowBalm Mineral Peptide Stick in Dusty Rose Pink, building a natural flush before adding a hint of Pink Pop to the apples of the cheeks. The Glow Balms retail for $38 and are packed with skin-loving ingredients including hydrating peptides, vitamin E and cacao seed oil (with no nasties). The combination gave Dakota a vibrant yet understated finish, echoing the romantic tones of her outfit. To bring the look full circle, she also used Dusty Rose Pink on the lips, creating a seamless monochromatic glow. Eisdell praised the versatility of Naked Sundays, noting the brand's unique ability to blend skincare benefits with high-performance beauty. 'Naked Sundays products are gorgeous for a red carpet look, ' she says. 'They combine high-performance skincare, SPF, and makeup-friendly formulas so I get beauty glow to the skin.' Shoppers have given the Blush Stick, a 5-star rating on Naked Sundays website. Naked Sundays is a product line that is a hybrid between skincare and suncare. Samantha is a former 7NEWS reporter who launched her game-changing sunscreen brand Naked Sundays in 2019. She worked with some of the best makeup artists and skin experts to create 'a product that wouldn't create a white cast under bright studio lights'. 'Especially with the high rates of melanoma, I saw it as such an important and vital product that was missing in the market,' she explained to Best Picks. Many other celebrities are also fans of the brand, 'this year we have had Suki Waterhouse, Anna Kendrick, Chrishell Strause, Ariana Greenblatt, Kaley Cucinoco and now Khloe Kardashian,' use the products,' Samantha said.

I tested Naked Sundays new SPF 'GlowBalms'-and they're officially my summer must-have

Gorgeous bright skin, irresistible pink shades, 24/7 sun protection — shall we 'GLOW' on? Viral SPF infused beauty brand Naked Sundays is back again with yet another product that after trying it for a week straight, we are convinced will be a summer must-have. SPF50 GlowBalm Mineral Peptide Sticks Make your summer makeup routine GLOW with Naked Sundays' latest drop — the GlowBalm sticks. These pigmented balms are perfect for getting a gorgeous blush cheek, eye, or even lip. Plus, they have a bronze shade that is great as a highlighter! (Oh, and they're all SPF infused!). We can not get enough of the shade 'Pink Pop', but you can explore the two other staple shades now online for just $28 a pop. $28 Shop The brand's new SPF50 GlowBalm Mineral Peptide Sticks are redefining not only the beauty space but also the sunscreen space with proven formulas and undeniably fun color palettes. The latest collection features three sticks in three shades, and all can be used on the cheeks, lips, and eyes! We got our hands on the new, adorably packaged balms early and tested them out for a full week ahead of their launch, and before we dive into the nitty-gritty details, let us say this — these balms are LEGIT. SPF has become somewhat of a skincare trend over the last couple of years with younger makeup and skincare users, and the research on its long-lasting benefits continues to shine. Naked Sundays is by far one of the biggest brands making sunblock 'cool again' with their effortlessly gorgeous makeup. From setting sprays to bronzer, they have it all! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Shopping Finder US (@shoppingfinderus) Over the years, I have used the brand SPF50+ Collagen Glow Priming Lotion religiously during the summer or on vacation due to its seamless feel and reliable protection. Now, after getting my hands on the SPF50 GlowBalm Mineral Peptide Sticks, I can safely say I have found a new 'go-to.' The balms, aside from being widely pigmented, are packed with a plethora of nourishing ingredients, including Vitamin E, Cacao Seed, and numerous Peptides (not to mention SPF50!). What made them so decadent for me was how similar to skincare they felt while applying. They glide on effortlessly and leave a soft, blendable streak. Skincare, SPF, and makeup all in one? That's right! The GlowBalm Sticks are good as good for your skin as they look with a unique nourishing formula. Candidly, after trying all three shades, my favorite was by FAR the ' Pink Pop,' and least favorite was the 'Bronze.' Both pink shades in the collection looked natural on the skin, and shockingly, I loved how they looked on my lips too. The bronze, for me, missed the mark only due to its strong pigmentation on my extremely fair skin. I rarely find 'all in one' products that I genuinely enjoy, but believe me when I say Naked Sundays got it right. These GlowBalms are everything I would want out of my blush, with the added bonus of sun protection. Available for only $28 online, these lipstick-sized multi-sticks are going to be a summer staple.

This SPF-Infused Summer Cosmetic Is Sure To Break The Internet

The sun protection category has never been considered particularly sexy, but Australian sunscreen line Naked Sundays is determined to prove otherwise. Dermatologists are adamant that sunscreen is the most important skincare step when it comes to skin health, both in terms of preventing skin cancer and anti-aging concerns. Yet when it comes to applying makeup, the step is often considered secondary to ensuring seamless product application. As model and 'sunscreen influencer' Ayumi Yokoyama told me in Los Angeles, one of her top considerations when testing SPF formulas is how well they pair with cosmetics. The last thing you want is for your cosmetics to bead atop the skincare and sunscreen beneath it, while it can be a hassle to re-apply sunscreen without the makeup beneath it budging. These common concerns are all reasons why Naked Sundays has disrupted the sunscreen category, particularly in the overlap where suncare-meets-makeup. 'What sets Naked Sundays apart is their ability to create SPF products that don't feel like sunscreen,' says celebrity makeup artist Carissa Ferreri. 'They offer real protection in formulas that glide on like skincare, enhance like makeup and layer seamlessly without feeling heavy or pilling.' Ferreri's observations provide insight as to why the Aussie line has become such a viral sensation Stateside. One of her favorite products is the brand's first viral product, the Hydrating Glow Mist Setting Spray SPF50+, $35, for quick sunscreen re-applications atop makeup. She also names the Collagen Glow 100% Mineral Sunscreen Perfecting Priming Base, $25, an 'ideal' priming base beneath makeup. But it is their viral line of blushing and bronzing CabanaGlow Mineral Glow Drops SPF 50, $35, that she dubs as 'staples.' These dew-enhancing complexion products have taken the brand to the next level, with over 2,479% increase in retail sales in 2024 alone. They also sold out no less than seven times when introduced exclusively at Ulta. 'When I first came up with the concept for Naked Sundays, I wanted to solve an issue that myself and so many others had: that it was impossible to reapply sunscreen over makeup,' writes Samantha Brett, CEO and founder of Naked Sundays, in an e-mail. Celebrity makeup artist Carissa Ferreri creates a look using the new Naked Sundays SPF 50-infused balm tints. Jessica Ourisman The story behind this social media-viral brand then began when she became determined to close this gap in the market. From the cultural context of Australia's high emphasis on sun protection (the country has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world), she then set out to create skin protection with skincare benefits in cosmetics-grade formulas that even celebrity makeup artists could stand behind. Cream blush had already overtaken the beauty industry as one of the most-coveted textures for topping dewy complexions. Now, their extension of their blush category with the GlowBalm Mineral Peptide Sticks is likely to become one of Summer 2025's top launches. Able to be used atop the eyes, lips and cheeks, the multi-tasking formula relays pops of color in three different shades—Dusty Pink, Pink Pop and Bronze—that blend and imbue the skin with peptides, vitamin E, cacao seed and, of course, sun protection. 'We knew people loved the original CabanaGlow SPF50 serum blush and shimmers, but we wanted to give our customers something even easier to throw in their bags and reapply on the go,' Brett continues. 'The multi-stick format just made sense; it helps you add an extra layer of sun protection without sacrificing your makeup or glow.' Their viral growth also has to do with their business model and consistency across beauty markets. Specifically, the decision to formulate according to globally complaint regulations around SPF (as each country's market possesses distinct regulations around the labelling of sun protection) has streamlined their launch process. 'Getting a product to be SPF 50 compliant in multiple markets is a major undertaking and can take many years. It means rigorous testing for efficacy, stability and safety,' she admits. 'But it was important to me to be globally compliant from day one because we knew we wanted Naked Sundays to be able to reach people across the globe.' For reference, part of the reason that you cannot currently purchase the Chanel CC Creams in the United States is rumored to be due to this exact issue—the legality around its SPF 50 label. This struggle can also be seen with the Australian brand Ultra Violette, a buzzy sunscreen line whose launch in the United States has required re-formulations and even delays around certain of their SKUs. One skincare influencer has even helped her followers to order and import the Australian formulas of the line as opposed to the ones manufactured for the United States market. This was never an option for Brett, who wanted to ensure each product launch would be suitable for entry into all global markets from day one—even if it took extra work. Another part of the brand's DNA has been their commitment to innovating with textures. This was evident from their original viral product, the Hydrating Glow Mist Top Up Spray. While infused with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin C-rich Kakadu plum, what made it extra unique was that the SPF 50 sunscreen was specifically designed to be applied over makeup like a setting spray. Again, being globally compliant also meant it was highly accessible to consumers worldwide. 'This product was the game-changer for us and our first product to go viral,' Brett explains of the sun protective mist, which is essentially a hybrid of sun protection and setting spray. 'People weren't just reapplying their sunscreen—they were excited to do it. It sparked a movement and set the tone for the multi-tasking products that followed.' There have admittedly already been spray-on sunscreens designed for use over makeup, such as the less well-known but beloved Seriously Fab Zinc It Over line. The indie brand's non-nano Zinc formula is a shoe-in for those that shop exclusive for 'clean' beauty brands. However, its SPF 25 designation falls short of Naked Sundays' SPF 50. It also comes in at a higher price point of $44.50 as opposed to $35, while being generally less accessible as a strictly direct-to-consumer line. As for the new GlowBalms, their 22.75% zinc oxide levels—the mineral sun blocker used—is also significant as the mineral is notoriously difficult to formulate with when it comes to product texture. Brett points out, these new tints took some two years to formulate—and the effort shows. In the TikTok above, Ferreri was able to blend this new category of 'functional cosmetics' into a glow-enhancing look that is as worthy of a special event as a day at the office, while affording a level of protection that is fit for the beach. 'For the look, I started with the CabanaGlow serums as a base, which I applied using my fingers to help it melt it into the skin for a seamless finish. Then I then layered the glow sticks strategically: on the high points of the cheeks, brow bones, and a touch on the bridge of the nose,' Ferreri explains. After using a brush to pick up and transfer the product onto my face, she then used a damp beauty blender to soften the pigment into my complexion. To set, she opted for powder due to my oily complexion. But for dryer skin types, this step can be skipped so the Glow Mist can easily lock everything in while keeping the skin luminous, fresh and protected throughout the day. As far as tips for using the stick format of the balm, the celebrity makeup artist shares that they are extremely convenient for 'travel, touch-ups or to simplify the kit' as well as for drier skin types for whom they can bring back glow without caking. You can also underpaint with them, applying them as a base before liquid makeup to ensure that the products blend in without lifting. If you are using the stick for touch-ups, after already applying makeup, Ferreri says to 'pat it on gently with the fingers or a sponge to avoid disrupting the makeup layers beneath.' "Don't be afraid to use these products like hybrids—SPF, skincare and makeup all in one,' Ferreri says in a final point. 'They're buildable, layer-able and skin-friendly.' With the Naked Sundays SPF50 GlowBalm Mineral Peptide Stick, $28, available to shop online, it's officially time to get your summer beauty looks ready.
