iPhone users alert! Truecaller to discontinue call recording feature for iOS from September 30. Here's what you can do…

Swedish spam blocker Truecaller has said that it will drop the call recording feature for iPhone users from September 30, 2025, and directed users to secure their recordings before the same. In a statement to TechCrunch, Nakul Kabra, the company's iOS Product Director confirmed that the feature will be discontinued by next month's end. 'It's true that Truecaller has decided to discontinue Call Recording for iPhone. We are doing this primarily so that we can focus on the core features of Live Caller ID and automatic spam blocking,' he said. Globally, the feature was launched for iOS and reintroduced on its Android app in June 2023. In India, the feature was launched across devices in 2024. Kabra said the company will focus on improving its anti-spam tools such as real-time caller identification through Live Caller ID, and automatic blocking of spam calls. The report noted that the move comes months after Apple introduced native call recording and transcription support for iPhone users in an iOS 18.1 update last year, removing the need for third-party apps to do the same. iPhone users who have saved call recordings on the app, have the option to either download these to their devices or share them via email and messaging apps. Alternatively, you can also use the iCloud to store the recordings. As per the Truecaller help page, here is a step-wise guide on how to save your call recordings: Change your preferences to iCloud storage: Open Truecaller — Go to the Record tab — Tap on the Settings icon — Tap on Storage preference — Change your storage preference to iCloud storage If the iCloud storage option is disabled, open iPhone Settings — Your name — iCloud — Saved to iCloud — Turn on Truecaller Save specific recordings: Open Truecaller — Go to the Record tab — Swipe left on the specific recording you want to locally save/share. Tap the Share/Export option Look for a "Share" icon (often a square with an arrow pointing upwards) or an "Export" button. Save to Files: Select "Save to Files" from the share sheet. You can then choose a folder on your iPhone (e.g."Downloads") to save the audio file. Share to other apps: You can also choose to share the recording to other apps like Mail, Messages, cloud storage services (e.g., iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox if installed). Repeat for all recordings: You will need to repeat this process for each individual call recording you wish to save.

Soon, Truecaller to shut down call recording feature on iPhone app: Details

Truecaller is pulling the plug on its call-recording feature for iPhone users starting September 30. The feature, which was introduced just over two years ago for paid subscribers, will no longer be available as the company looks to shift focus back to its core spam-blocking services, according to a report by TechCrunch. Users who have existing call recordings can still access their saved files. Truecaller says users can download them locally, share them via email or messaging apps, or choose to store them in iCloud to retain access after the feature is shut down. A support page has also been set up to assist with the transition. Why is Truecaller shutting down call recording on iPhones? In a statement to TechCrunch, Truecaller's head of iOS, Nakul Kabra, said the decision to discontinue call recording was part of a broader strategy to prioritise features like Live Caller ID and automatic spam blocking — particularly on iOS, where third-party apps face more restrictions. Unlike Android, where call recording can be implemented directly, Apple's operating system does not allow native access to phone audio. To work around this, Truecaller relied on a more complex 'recording line' system, which merges calls to enable recording. This approach adds both cost and technical overhead. Kabra said these constraints made continuing the feature unsustainable. Another factor influencing the decision is Apple's move to offer similar capabilities natively. With iOS 18.1, Apple introduced built-in call recording and transcription for iPhone users. Unlike Truecaller's method, Apple's solution does not require call merging and uses Apple Intelligence on eligible iPhones to generate transcriptions that are saved directly to the Notes app. With the latest iOS 26 update, Apple has gone a step further by adding Live Call Translation, expanding its set of AI-powered communication tools and reducing the need for third-party alternatives.

Truecaller call recording on iPhones to stop from September 30: Here's how to save them now

Truecaller, the popular caller ID and spam blocking app, has announced that the call recording feature on iPhones will be discontinued starting September 30. In a statement to TechCrunch, Truecaller's head of iOS, Nakul Kabra, said that the company took the decision to do away with call recording on iOS as it wants to focus more on other features like Live Caller ID and automatic spam call blocking. Introduced in June 2023, Truecaller's call recording feature was initially available to paying subscribers on iPhone, but later expanded to the Android version of the app. Since Apple does not allow third-party apps to record calls natively, the company had to resort to using a recording line which merges with calls. According to Kabra, the method not only increased the complexity but also led to a sharp rise in costs. On X, several Truecaller users shared a notification which said, 'We are discontinuing the Call Recording feature on Truecaller for iPhone.' The pop-up message also asked users who often use the functionality to download their recordings, as everything will be deleted after September 30. To save your call recordings on iPhone, launch Truecaller on your phone and head over to the Record tab. Now, tap on the Settings icon, click on the option named Storage Preference and change it to iCloud storage. If the option is disabled, you will need to manually enable it by going to Settings > Your name > iCloud > Saved to iCloud > Turn on Truecaller. In case you want to download specific recordings, head over to the Record tab and swipe left on the recordings you want to save. Now, tap on the Share or Export option, and the app will ask you where you want to save the recording. Truecaller's decision to discontinue the call recording feature on iPhone comes at a time when Apple has introduced its very own native call recording feature.

Truecaller's call-recording feature won't work on iPhones from September 30

Truecaller is discontinuing its call recording function on iOS — just over two years after the feature was launched — as the Swedish company opts to focus on its core offering: fighting spam calls. On Friday, the company confirmed to TechCrunch that its call recording feature will no longer be available on iPhones starting September 30. Users with saved call recordings can either download them to their devices, share them via email or messaging apps, or switch their storage preference to iCloud to keep the recordings accessible even after the feature is discontinued. Truecaller's head of iOS, Nakul Kabra, told TechCrunch the company took the decision because it wanted to focus on its Live Caller ID and automatic spam blocking features. In June 2023, Truecaller launched call recording on iOS for its paying subscribers, alongside reintroducing the feature on Android. The app also got support for transcribing calls natively. Both call recording and transcription were launched in India last year. While call recording works seamlessly on Android, it is more complicated on iOS, where Apple's operating system does not let third-party apps record calls natively. To work around this, Truecaller uses a recording line that merges calls to record — a method that increases both costs and complexity, per Kabra. These challenges ultimately led to the feature being discontinued. The company has set up a support page to help users if they face any issues during the transition. Truecaller's move comes months after Apple introduced native call recording and transcription support for iPhone users in an iOS 18.1 update last year. The native feature does not require users to connect to a record line to record the call, unlike Truecaller, and also brings Apple Intelligence-powered transcriptions. Paying users also get real-time caller ID, along with advanced and automatic spam blocking, Siri shortcuts, incognito mode, and other features.
