Reddam House Waterfall learners reflect on their experience at the Mountains Festival
In mid-April, two Reddam House schools showcased their exceptional choral talent at one of South Africa's most prestigious cultural events – The Drakensberg Boys Choir's Music in the Mountains Festival.
Only the most elite ensembles earn invitations to perform at this notable event, making the participation of both Reddam House Waterfall and Reddam House Umhlanga a remarkable achievement.

Reddam House Waterfall's senior preparatory choir, a dynamic group of 70 learners, took centre stage, delivering an unforgettable performance at the Voices of Unity concert, during the festival. The learners executed what many hailed as their most focused and flawless performance to date, earning a standing ovation from a captivated audience. The presence of supportive parents who travelled to attend added even more significance to this memorable experience.
Reflecting on the occasion, Grade 7 learner Mikara Perumal stated that performing with the Drakensberg Boys Choir was an enriching experience, one which marked a pinnacle moment for the choir. 'Having the privilege of going to the Drakensberg with my choir and performing alongside the Drakensberg Boys Choir was incredibly enriching. Personally, the highlight of this trip was sitting back and absorbing the beautiful pieces the other choirs had prepared.'
Fellow Grade 7 learner Naledi Mntambo shared a memorable moment: 'While we were singing: What Was I Made For by Billie Eilish, it began to rain. As we continued, the drizzle faded, and sunlight broke through the clouds, creating a breathtaking view framed by the mountains in the background.'
Grade 7 learner Zenande Ndungane declared: 'This was the most rewarding choir festival I have ever attended. From the bus ride to the performance, this festival fostered an unbreakable bond among our choir members.'
Licham Horo, also in Grade 7, added: 'We sang extraordinarily well and drew inspiration from many beautiful choirs. The highlight for me was listening to Reddam House Umhlanga's high school choir, which almost moved me to tears.'
