Caio Collet Stays Fast, Sweeps Both Poles at Laguna Seca

INDYCAR Caio Collet pulled off a two-for-one deal Saturday, sweeping the poles for both races in the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Collet drove to his first and second poles of the season – and second and third in his career – in the INDYCAR development series, edging championship leader Dennis Hauger for the top spot in both 35-lap races. Race 1 starts at 4:30 p.m. ET today, with Race 2 taking the green flag at 1 p.m. ET Sunday (Both races FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network). SEE: Race 1 Qualifying Results | Race 2 Qualifying Results The pole winner has won the last 10 INDY NXT races at this picturesque 11-turn, 2.238-mile permanent road course adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, which bodes well for Collet. His first career victory, in July 2024 at Mid-Ohio, came from his only other career pole. He also won this season at Road America from the second starting spot. 'Very fortunate,' Collet said. 'It was a little too late in the championship, to be honest, to get our first pole, but better late than never. The team did a phenomenal job since yesterday. 'The car was quite tricky. I made a couple of little mistakes, but I was glad I could pull both laps together. It was a tough session, to be honest. I'm just happy to start on pole for both races.' Collet, who led practice Friday, earned the top spot for the first race with his top lap of 1 minute, 13.2566 seconds in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car. His second-best lap of 1:13.3283 was good enough for pole for Race 2. Hauger recovered from a rare crash in practice Friday to qualify second for both races in the No. 28 Nammo car of Andretti Global with his top two laps of 1:13.3275 and 1:13.3585. Josh Pierson will start third in both races in the No. 14 HMD Motorsports car after his best laps of 1:13.4363 and 1:13.4499. The mirror-image starting lineups for both races ended starting with the fourth spot. Myles Rowe, winner of the most-recent race at Iowa Speedway, will start fourth in Race 1 after his best lap of 1:13.6423 in the No. 99 Abel Motorsports/Force Indy car. Lochie Hughes, second in championship points, will start fourth in Race 2 with his lap of 1:13.7569 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championships machine of Andretti Global. The third row in both races also featured a mixture of drivers. Callum Hedge will start fifth in both races after his best times of 1:13.5210 and 1:13.7659. Hughes will join Hedge in Row 3 for Race 1, while Rowe will start sixth in Race 2. This is the second and final doubleheader of 2025. Hauger leads teammate Hughes by 76 points with five races remaining this season. recommended Item 1 of 1

Caio Collet Leads Day 1 at Laguna Seca; Dennis Hauger Hits Barrier

INDYCAR A pair of first-day INDY NXT by Firestone practices at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna left series leader Dennis Hauger with a damaged car and Caio Collet with a fast car. SEE: Practice 1 | Practice 2 Driving the No. 76 HMD Motorsports entry, Collet posted the quickest overall lap, a time of 1 minute, 14.0546 of a second that bested Andretti Global's Lochie Hughes (1:14.3332 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship car) and HMD Motorsports' Josh Pierson (1:14.6193 in the No. 14 HMD Motorsports entry). Hauger had the best lap in the first session – 1:14.7484 – but his opportunity to improve in the second practice was lost when he hit the tire barrier in Turn 6. Hauger finished with the 16th-best lap overall in Andretti Global's No. 28 Nammo car, a position he won't want to be in when qualifying is held Saturday at 1 p.m. ET on FS1. That session will set the starting lineups for each of the two races held this weekend. The past 10 pole winners of the Grand Prix of Monterey have gone on to win the race. Hauger, who leads the series with five wins and six poles, holds a 76-point lead over Hughes (two wins, two poles) with five races remaining. Collet, a one-race winner this season, stands 94 points out of the series lead. Nineteen car-and-driver combinations participated after Andretti Cape INDY NXT and driver Ricardo Escotto parted ways. The weekend's first race is Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET on FS2. Race 2 will be at 1 p.m. ET Sunday on FS1. recommended Item 1 of 1

Thunderstorms Send Dennis Hauger to Pole at Iowa Speedway

INDYCAR INDY NXT by Firestone points leader Dennis Hauger will start from the No. 1 position for the INDY NXT by Firestone at Iowa Speedway race after the qualifying session was rained out. The field for the 75-lap race will take the green flag based on entrant points entering the event. SEE: Starting Lineup Hauger had the third-fastest lap in Friday's abbreviated practice, turning a lap of 165.073 mph in Andretti Global's No. 28 Nammo entry. His lap was part of the Andretti organization's strong start to the weekend. Four of the team-related drivers turned laps among the session's top five. Hauger will start from the top spot for the seventh time in nine races this season. He started second in the other two. Salvador de Alba posted the fastest lap of the 30-minute session at 165.518 mph in the No. 27 Grupo Indi car of Andretti Global. Myles Rowe was second driving the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy machine (165.421 mph). '(A) shortened practice, but happy to be where we are,' de Alba said. 'All the Andretti cars are pretty fast. We (turned) good laps at the very end with the used tires, so that gives us even more confidence.' Ricardo Escotto was fourth in the No. 3 Frank's Red Hot car of Andretti Cape Motorsports (164.623 mph). Rookie Lochie Hughes was fifth in Andretti Global's No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship entry (164.291 mph). Andretti Global's James Roe, who won the pole for last year's race at this .894-mile oval, had the eighth-fastest lap in the No. 29 Topcon entry (163.267 mph). Jordan Missig had the session's only spin, a lazy excursion off Turn 2. He did not make contact with the No. 48 Abel Motorsports car, enabling him to continue after pitting. The field was expected to include Sebastian Murray in the No. 2 DREAM RACING DUBAI entry of Andrett Cape Motorsport, but he was not medically cleared to participate in the wake of last weekend's accident with Escotto at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Saturday's 75-lap race starts at 1:30 p.m. ET. FS1, the FOX Sports app and the INDYCAR Radio Network will have the broadcasts. recommended Item 1 of 2

Myles Rowe Scores First INDY NXT Win

INDYCAR Myles Rowe took a historic INDY NXT by Firestone victory at Iowa Speedway and then took a bow. Rowe earned the INDY NXT by Firestone at Iowa Speedway win by executing a stirring late-race pass for the lead, then held on to become the first Black driver to win a race in this series. His margin at the finish was 1.3927 seconds. SEE: Race Results This is the second season in the series for the 25-year-old Georgia native who resides in New York and in 2023 captured the USF Pro 2000 Championship. 'It's so good,' Rowe said after driving the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy entry to victory lane. 'We've been working a minute for this, and we knew we had the pace. It was about waiting for the last half of the race and seeing what we could do with it.' Fourteen laps from the finish, Rowe went around series points leader Dennis Hauger on the outside in Turn 4 as they came upon lapped traffic. Rowe's experience paid off as Hauger, a series rookie, was competing in just his second oval race. 'We don't stop here -- I'm looking for a lot more than this,' said Rowe, who is fourth in the standings. 'But I'm glad we could get this (win), for sure.' The race featured 130 on-track passes and 55 passes for position, both figures ranking in the top three of INDY NXT by Firestone races staged at this short oval track. Hauger's strong run in Andretti Global's No. 28 Nammo machine helped extend his series lead to 73 points over teammate Lochie Hughes, a rookie driving the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship entry. Hughes finished 16th in the 19-car race after being penalized for a Lap 3 incident with Rowe. Hughes, the winner of last month's oval race at World Wide Technology Raceway, was trying to hold off Rowe for second place when Rowe moved to the inside on the backstretch. Their cars touched, with Hughes' left rear tire taking a brush from Rowe's front wing. Race control deemed that Hughes moved defensively, drawing a drive-through penalty that dropped him down a lap to the field. Andretti Global's Salvador de Alba, who had turned the fastest lap in Friday's practice, finished third in the No. 27 Grupo Indi entry. Several drivers had spins off Turn 4 without contact. HMD Motorsports' Josh Pierson tried to take the high line around teammate Caio Collet for third place on Lap 26, but he lost the back end of the car. On the ensuing restarts, Juan Manuel Correa of HMD Motorsports and Ricardo Escotto of Andretti-Cape Motorsport spun on Lap 30 while Davey Hamilton Jr. of HMD Motorsports did the same on Lap 34. The series will be back in action at the end of the month when a doubleheader is staged at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27. Those represent the 10th and 11th races of the 14-race season. recommended Item 1 of 2

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) -Sweden has signed agreements with Germany's Rheinmetall and Norway's Nammo worth over 5 billion crowns ($526.02 million) for artillery ammunition deliveries, its defence ministry said on Tuesday. "With this order, we are strengthening Sweden's defence capability. It is an important investment in security for Sweden and NATO," said Minister of Defence Pal Jonson in a statement. The deal with Rheinmetall Denel Munition, a subsidiary of the German defence contractor, amounts to more than 4 billion crowns and includes artillery shells and propellant charges for Sweden's Archer artillery system, the ministry said.
