Actor Srikanth Sent To Jail Till July 7 In In Cocaine Case, Chennai Police Claim Evidence Of Drug Use
Chennai: A day after the arrest of popular Tamil and Telugu actor Srikanth, exclusive information accessed by NDTV from Chennai police sources reveals that investigators have secured documentary evidence indicating his involvement in the purchase and consumption of cocaine. A digital money trail has also been traced, reportedly confirming financial transactions linked to drug procurement. "Evidence includes chat records, financial transfers, and phone data that establish a clear pattern of contact with drug suppliers," a senior officer told NDTV. Police are also examining Srikanth's links to known members of a cartel operating in and out of Tamil Nadu. The actor was earlier questioned for several hours at the Nungambakkam police station before his arrest. His blood samples, which were sent for testing, reportedly confirmed drug usage, though the forensic report has not yet been made public. It all began with the arrest of Pradeep and John, a Ghana national, for alleged possession of cocaine. Their interrogation led to Prasad, a former AIADMK member who was also arrested after a brawl at a Chennai pub, which police say led to the unearthing of a broader drug supply network now under investigation. Srikanth's name reportedly emerged during the interrogation of multiple suspects connected to that case. Srikanth made his acting debut in 2002 with Roja Kootam and has since featured in nearly 70 films, including Shankar's Nanban, the Tamil remake of the Bollywood blockbuster Three Idiots. There has been no official comment yet from Srikanth's lawyers. Last night a Chennai court remanded Srikanth to judicial custody till July 7. Amid a spurt in drug cases, AIADMK and BJP have already been accusing the ruling DMK of failing to control the drug menace in the state. The DMK has denied the charges, stating that the arrest shows that law is taking its course, irrespective of influence or status. Police, meanwhile, claim Tamil Nadu remains one of the states with the lowest drug usage in the country, and that strict action is being taken against offenders. In a recent exclusive interview to NDTV, DGP Shankar Jiwal stated that Tamil Nadu does not manufacture narcotics but is increasingly becoming a transit point for drug shipments to Sri Lanka and beyond.

This film had no action, thrill, or suspense, still became superhit, earned Rs. 460 crore, has a Tamil remake, rated 8.4 on IMDb, the film is..., actors are... In the ever-evolving world of cinema, many films come and go. However, some rare gems touch the emotional chord like no other and stay relevant for years to come. One such tale is of a cult classic. What's even more interesting is that this film was a remake of a Bollywood blockbuster that, instead of getting trapped in the usual comparison, soared higher than the expectations. Yes, we are talking about the Tamil film Nanban, which was the remake of the Bollywood blockbuster 3 idiots. What was even more surprising is that the casting of the Tamil remake had South Indian actor Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, who is popularly known for his action and thriller roles. While the original film had Bollywood's perfectionist, Aamir Khan, playing that role. The original Bollywood Blockbuster – 3 idiots came in 2008. It featured a star-studded cast of Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Despite not entailing any action, thrill or suspense, the film managed to hit gold at the box office and collected a whopping Rs. 460 crores globally. From the strong storyline of the film to its new age comedy and impeccable performances of the actors, the film hit a nerve with the audience. Four years later, the same film was remade in a Tamil version, which was titled Nanban was directed by S. Shankar. However, the first choice for the male lead wasn't how the filmmaker initially decided. The male lead role of Aamir Khan from 3 idiots for offered to actor Suriya in the Tamil remake; however, it was Vijay who eventually did the role. Although Vijay is an action hero and is known for his intense roles, he proved his versatility by slipping into this role with utmost ease. The film also featured d Ileana D'Cruz in the lead female role. Made on a humble budget of Rs. 50 crores, this film earned Rs. 150 crores at the box office and was rated 7.8 on IMDb. Vijay's performance in the film was widely appreciated as he did something out of his niche, proving that he can touch a chord with the audience even without doing any action sequence. This film further established him as a versatile actor. The film also starred Srikanth and Jeeva, with Sathyaraj playing the role of the strict principal, similar to Boman Irani's iconic role in the original. The screenplay was adapted by Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi themselves, which helped retain the soul of the original.

Chennai: Popular Tamil and Telugu film actor Srikanth has been remanded to judicial custody till July 7 by a Chennai court in connection with a cocaine-related case. The actor was interrogated for several hours at the Nungambakkam police station before being formally arrested. According to police sources, Srikanth is alleged to have purchased and used cocaine and maintained contacts with known drug suppliers. His blood samples were sent for medical examination, and reports reportedly confirmed drug usage. The case emerged from a broader crackdown on a drug network that was unearthed following a recent pub brawl involving a former AIADMK member, whose arrest led investigators to a series of other suspects - culminating in Srikanth's arrest. Srikanth, a familiar face in South Indian cinema, debuted in 2002 with Roja Kootam and has acted in nearly 70 films, including notable roles in Nanban, director Shankar's Tamil remake of the Bollywood hit 'Three Idiots'. There has been no official comment yet from Srikanth's legal team. His arrest comes amid an uptick in drug seizures and narcotics-related investigations in Tamil Nadu. The issue has triggered sharp political reactions, with opposition parties AIADMK and BJP targeting the ruling DMK, alleging a breakdown in law and order. The DMK has strongly denied the allegations, defending the police action as evidence of proactive enforcement. The Tamil Nadu Police, for their part, maintain that the prevalence of drug use in the state is among the lowest in the country even according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, and that stringent action is being taken against both peddlers and users. In a recent exclusive interview to NDTV, Director General of Police Mr Shankar Jiwal stated that while Tamil Nadu does not produce narcotics, it has become a transit hub for international drug trafficking, particularly for shipments destined to Sri Lanka and other countries.
