Huntsville, Ont. to host Canada's leaders for summer summit
Residents in and around Huntsville should expect increased traffic and a heightened sense of activity next week as the Town welcomes Prime Minister Mark Carney, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, and provincial premiers for the 2025 Council of the Federation (COF) meeting.
The event will be held from Monday to Wednesday at Deerhurst Resort.
'We look forward to showcasing the beautiful, vibrant community that we call home to the prime minister, the premiers, and the delegates,' stated Huntsville Mayor Nancy Alcock. 'This marks a unique opportunity to highlight key issues that affect Canadians.'
On Tuesday, Ontario's Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Edith Dumont, will pay a visit to the Muskoka town. Her itinerary includes a guided arts and culture tour of the town's signature venues, including Algonquin Theatre, Canada Summit Centre, and Muskoka Heritage Place.
'Huntsville has a rich culture rooted in art, history, and Indigenous representation,' said Jacqueline Surette, the manager of recreation, culture and heritage. 'Our tour of Huntsville with the lieutenant governor will bring colour to our heritage and give her an immersive experience of our community, including our Indigenous partners.'
Ford will host the meeting as chair of the COF, which consists of all 13 premiers.
Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville was also the venue for the 2010 international G8 summit.
